News / Poland a top pot producer? Legalization? [30]

Pol3, you are not up to speed with changes in road regulations. Poles can drive faster now and that's exactly what the police want. More money for the govt through fines.

Oh yes, the Patriot Act is the most democratic of statutes. Much more democratic than the Polish Constitution, LOL.

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

Polonthemeds, the moment you start listening to real stories and give up blanket denial is the moment you will begin to move forward. People who you perceive to be anti-Poland are merely giving the other side of the coin. Like Wrocław, I have no reason to doubt WB and he also has plenty of good things to say about Poland, I might add. Just observation for the most part.

Medical malpractice happens. To errr (sic) is human ;)

News / Poland a top pot producer? Legalization? [30]

Good points, Jon. I have certain stock phrases and one of them is 'we are born to experience'. That means taking drugs IMHO. Although I haven't done any drug beyond the legal ones for quite some time, it doesn't change the fact that I took sth from what I did before. I see the merit in them.

Make love, not war! Take drugs (soft ones), not lives ;)

I neither want to be overly prescriptive nor proscriptive (certainly not!). However, give people choices as education plies them with the tools needed to make an informed choice (or should at any rate). If I chose to seek out pot tonight, I'd know exactly what I'd be getting myself in for.

One million Poles smoke pot once a week? 1/38th of the population?? I'd doubt that for starters. It's not the kind of thing you can statistically verify with any degree of accuracy.

It can be bought in any school during recess? That's funny, I thought it was illegal ;) Doesn't say much for the policing here.

They are wheeling out an age-old debate here. Nothing new. I wouldn't mind if pot was decriminalised here. Some Poles need to relax a bit more.

News / The cross in Polish parliament - Does it bother you? [100]

Olaf, the law is an a*s! That's an English expression. How many people make such laws? A handful, yes. How many people are Catholics here? Many many!! Please try and not overstate the importance of law, esp as it concerns religion and matters of faith.

I don't insist on anything. Catholicism is very important here, no sense in denying that.

Olaf, I worked on the Polish Constitution with a Polish legal executive but I don't see it as being relevant here. If the cross being there is so unconstitutional then why hasn't it been removed? Doesn't Poland respect its own traditions and Constitution?? You might get some answers from asking yourself that, Olaf my friend.

History / Why have Poles contributed so little to Academics? (Particularly Science) [180]

Becoming a lawyer or academic law practitioner isn't easy although some Jews make it look that way. Scotland has a rich law tradition. I've met judges and standard lawyers here. Nice folks and smart :) However, are there many eminent/exalted academics here in the field of law? My ex prof in Scotland is one of the leading authorities in European and PIFL in Europe. Paul Beaumont is his name.

Love / I'm a black African man and can't cope with my Polish mother in law [34]

My Polish MIL is utterly fantastic! She really doesn't cause any problems whatsoever and has been nothing but nice to me. She has taken me onboard and is really friendly.

However, I've heard stories of those who are unbearable and I think I can attribute it to them just looking for a role for themselves. I also believe that the coloured gentleman from the OP gets a hard time due to his MIL's fear of how he might be raising the child. This fear is irrational but it doesn't stop the MIL from butting in the whole time.

Travel / Is it safe to travel to Poland? [194]

Poland is really safe. You don't have to worry too much about idiots causing problems.

Law / Medical Malpractice in Poland - seeking accountability? [146]

WB is right. You simply have to butter them up and they can be like putty in your hands. Some, well, are stiff feckin gits. No getting away from that. Many just won't accept blame here. I guess that's what separates me from them.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

For 4, let's just say I can understand pip's reaction pretty well :)

I noticed it again tonight. Sb insisted that 'eary' was a word (Scrabble night) and both myself and the other native denied its existence. However, she didn't want to be proven wrong so we just let it pass. There is no sense in arguing with many Poles as they just get huffy and can't swallow their pride. Myself and the other native just let things slide as we came to an agreement to do so. They think that, by virtue of getting some 'important' papers in the English language, that they are somehow streets ahead of qualified natives. Quite laughable but there we go. To us, it's like water off a duck's back.

Yes but it's the same wherever you go, rybnik. In that case, you can remove the cross wherever it may hang as people, without fail, completely miss the point of religion. Politicians have their own spin, they don't need crosses.

Language / Intensive English Language Courses in Poland? [44]

NOVA were amongst the worst for greed and corruption. I'm glad I got in and out when I did. I've been around the block when it comes to methods and I'd improve every single one of them. They are hashed together too quickly and without sufficient regard to the teacher.

Berlitz was overly commercial in Japan. Some schools can't hide their rampant capitalism. The teaching becomes secondary and students get ripped off. New 'novelties' have to be cost effective.

Would that be Peter or Robin? Two dead Cooks.

Do they toss a coin before choosing the designer or...?
