Since you are not registered user, you don't have any possibility to be notified when a reply arrives on your thread. And it may happened, let say in a year, that some Kuler comes here, and would like to contact you. There's even no email address in your post. It's a common mistake unfortunately..

Travel / Best places to visit in Sopot in December [11]

I spend a week in Sopot this summer, krzywydomek is not so spectacular, especially when covered by trees. Whole Monte Cassino street (Monciak) is nice, but not very big, but the pear is long - not bad, although the admission is payable and a bit pricey.

Overall I prefer Gdansk Old Town much more. You can spend there whole day, and won't be bored too much.
One more thing worth to recommend in Tricity, especially for someone with kids, is Science Centre "Experyment" in Gdynia:

Genealogy / Trying to find someone need help [3]

Yes indeed, very long shot, especially when we don't know the name and the area where he lived...
But if the name is not very popular, it's worth to find some people who have the same name and are living near the area. Search on a social sites (facebook and nk.pl), google, and try to contact them, with the question about your boyfriends father.

Real Estate / Home loan for foreigners (not from EU) in Poland? [10]

Yes, of course you're able to get a loan but under the specified conditions.
Trying to do so you should attach proof of income by the employer, tax return and information about your creditworthiness (in your case from Australia). Some banks require translated documents by a certified translator, others allow their presentation in English. Most banks also requires foreigners check on Polish territory, if this is not the case, then you are expected to establish on the basis of a notarial act your representative, who will have a home address in Poland. Procedures relating to EU citizens, are a bit more simplified.

Life / Community Gardening and Supplies in Warsaw [6]

Recently, an interesting initiative of the contest in Warsaw emerged:

In the Society of Friends of Warsaw (TPW) was born newly the idea of reintroducing the cult "Warsaw in flowers and greenery" contest, whose tradition dates back to the interwar period. It's about encouraging residents to beautify balconies, backyards and home gardens, and reporting them to the horticultural beauty contest. Objective - more greenery and improving the aesthetics of the city. This was once a prestigious and very popular event, but recently seemed old-fashioned. It was equated with retirees community, because still the same circle took part in it. In addition, award-winning facilities sometimes aroused aesthetic controversy and therefore belied the desirability of of the contest. So when I heard about the refreshed formula and the need to transfer the original idea of the competition to the younger generations, the hope sprout in my heart...

Work / Career in aviation as a pilot in Poland - what schools and what salary? [2]

If the pilotage of an airliner is your dream, you need to have the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). And in order to obtain it you should get into one of two schools in Poland that provide such allowances - Rzeszów University of Technology

wbmil.portal.prz.edu.pl/en/

and the State School of Higher Vocational Education in Chelm:
rekrutacja.pwsz.chelm.pl/rekrutacja/kierunki_i_specjalnosci/mechanika_i_budowa_maszyn

You can also go for separate theoretical training which prepares to acquire the license - location Mielec, price 3.500PLN, see:
flypolska.pl

But as you probably know education does not end there, because in aviation each category of machine, type of flying, and even the type of machine - requires a separate license.

To become a military pilot you need to be learned at the Polish Air Force Academy in Dęblin: wsosp.pl/index.php/en/

Pilots earnings in Poland differ depends on the reputation of the company for which they work, their skills and experience. The average (airliner) salary is approx. 10 thousand PLN for month, but that's not all, because in addition to this pilots often get also extras, bonuses, allowances, etc.

Study / Study. Work. Life. Business - Warsaw University [8]

Warsaw University is very reputable school in Poland, regardless which course you'll take it will be good as the academy is known not only in our country. But of course the graduation alone won't be enough. If you want to find a decent job, you need to have practical skills. And only English is rather not sufficient nowadays.

Part time job is also hard to find, unless you're a cook, maybe waiter, plumber or electrician.. Well, you may also do leafleting.
Check other threads on PF - here are plenty similar questions about part job for students and life in Poland.

Polonia / Moving to Poland from Israel. Shipping stuff ideas / company? [2]

do you know good company that deals with shipping from Israel?

Check UPS and DHL - both are working in Israel, Poland, and in most countries of the world yet I believe.

pay something for the import?

The property moved from a country outside the European Union is released from the duty when it fulfill appropriate conditions from the customs legislation. According to the regulation, released from the duty is only such personal property, which remained in possession and was used in the previous place of residence for the person who is moving, for at least 6 months from the date on which the person ceased to living in a third country. Moreover, the exemption is granted only to those who lived outside the EU for at least 12 months (with possible short trips eg. for tourism or business purposes). In addition, you can not get rid of the imported stuff for a year, to not expose yourself to the payment of duties.

In the reality it's not so easy sometimes to meet all the required conditions. Example from the Internet:

Our reader recently started to move from the US to Poland. She wanted to bring her furniture and other things which she gathered during her stay overseas. She presented to the customs office tenancy agreement and an employment contract, which according to her confirmed the several years permanent residence abroad. For the officials it was not enough. They demanded other evidences. All the visas confirming her continuity stay in the USA proved to be unsuitable. The documents, which after a few weeks of struggle have met the office, were invoices paid for energy and phone subscription.
Another of our readers, who carried out from England and wanted to keep his car - apart the proof of purchase and the registration document, he had to submit proof of vehicle insurance, bills from the car workshop and mandates issued to him for speeding.

So... good luck! Welcome back in Poland :)

Real Estate / Purchase of Apartment (Krakow) by proxy from the USA. [4]

The proxy can not get the rights to any legal action, so be sure to determine the range of it. If the purpose of the authorization is to buy an apartment in Poland, you should properly reduce the duties of the authorized person (include the formalities associated with the transaction).

The notarial act should contain specific points of the transaction. You can authorize the proxy to contacts with a client, with offices and to sign the contract. Other important information to include is a maximum price at which the authorized person can buy an apartment.

After buying an apartment the proxy should return the notarial act excerpt - until he have it, he can use it.

Work / Working in music industry in Poland? [3]

I don't have good news for you. Poland's music industry is very weak. It's hard to get any job as music technician, mastering engineer, whatever. You must employ yourself, find a contracts, have great connections. Yet without language it's more unfriendly business. Yes, if you are talented, communicative, hardworking, you can easily earn more and even much more than the national average in Poland, but incomes are iregular, often unpredictable. And the necessity to invest in hardware / software - it's all so expensive and you have yet to remember that this work requires continuous effort and totally unpredictable working hours. Decent quality device whether it's a preamp, sound compressor, equalizer or a converter costs a lot, so to maintain a family and still be able to invest - you really have to strive. This is a difficult profession, guarantees that a person will not be bored, and nothing known from regular job does not correlate on the sound engineer profession. It's an individual professional path at one's peril.

Law / Temp residence in Poland (came here on a Schengen visa to get my US visa extended) [5]

Quotes from Prolongation_of_a_visa_in_Poland.html

Mandatory Schengen visa prolongation

The period of validity of a visa issued or length of stay under said visa may be extended if the visa holder can prove that, due to unforeseen circumstances or for humanitarian reasons, he cannot leave the territory of the Member States before the expiry of the visa or before the end of the authorized period of stay.

Maybe your case qualified for those "unforeseen circumstances"?

Foreigners who wish to extend their stay under a visa must apply for a visa prolongation at least 3 days before the expiry of the authorised period of stay indicated in the visa.

But it was already too late at the time you wrote this.. I wonder how did you manage in this situation?

Work / Salary for medical doctors in Poland [2]

Newly educated doctors gain low comparing to experienced specialists.

The lowest salary granted to a person in the period of apprenticeship. Intern in a hospital can earn per month from 1370 to 1640 zł gross. A little more than he earns a caretaker, doorman and security guard employed by the hospital or clinic. Midwife, nurse or dietitian can earn per month in principle to 2420 zł gross. Specialist physician, laboratory diagnostician or assistant pharmacist can earn from 1720 to 3650 zł gross. Base salary of coordinators and managers of pharmacies operating in the state medical institutions range from 2150 to 4550 zł zł gross, and the provincial sanitary inspector or head of a hospital can earn up to 4850 per month zł gross basis.
Until that health professionals receive the functional depends not only on wages, but also on the findings contained in the Regulation. For example, head physician can count on allowance in the amount even in 2047 zł, as 45 percent of basic salary. Chief nurse entitled to an allowance of 45 percent of the amount of base salary, a nurse departmental - 25 percent. Nowadays doctors are working too much - especially the good ones. Taking couple tours of duty makes them vulnerable to mistakes. It seems that today is lack of good specialists in Poland. But they get good money. Their salary is much higher than let say 5 years ago. Good money appears after the completion of II degree specialisation.
