Life / A Polka station in Poland? [27]

They've made their own interpretation of it that is distinct from American rap.

Still sounds pretty stupid though, but that's my interpretation :)

USA, Canada / Living 16+ years in the US. Is moving back to Poland a good idea? [14]

I am not familiar with teaching, but I would say salaries in the big cities are higher than in small towns? Or is it because the competition is less?

But then also the money people can /are willing to spend on language schools / private lessons. Or is that a wrong presumption?

Work / Living in Lublin (as a teacher)!? [36]

the main thing they expect from me is not teaching English;

That looks like a lot of nonsense to me. People going to language courses (and paying good money for them) do that to learn that language.

And for sure I would prefer a native speaker.

I completely agree with that. I also advise to try it for a season (maybe in Winter when Poland is at its worst, it looks too pretty in Spring and Summer :) ) If it does not work out, you can always return to the States.

Work / Why are so many PF member in Poland working in education? [19]

Strange that you think so many of the posters on here are in education though.

I had this impression...maybe the subject pops up so regularly, often of course potential newcomers ask if they can make a living out of teaching of teaching in Poland.

I don't think teaching is a job to be taken lightly,

With this I fully agree. I wouldn't have the stamina for it. I did not mean to look down on the "teachers" on this forum. It is only I often see people looking for an "ordinary" job in Poland, without knowing any Polish at all, and then starting to ask if they can earn a living on teaching.

I think without knowledge of the language, working in Poland is difficult.

I fully concur with this. Although for BPO jobs knowledge of Polish is not necessary at all.

some of whom have settled down, with a partner and often kids and made PL their permanent home

That sounds like me :)

Work / Why are so many PF member in Poland working in education? [19]

This has already mystified me since I am active on this forum. Is it because they like it, the flexible working hours, never a dull moment, the pay...Or was it a last resort, because they did not find anything else? Which I suppose not, because as far as I understand you have to do teaching courses before you arrive in Poland.

I am living well over 9 years in Warsaw and have never worked as a teacher....And nor do the fellow-Belgians I know here...
If you guys could enlighten me ?
No trolls please.

Law / Obtaining Dowód Osobisty on my Karta Stałego Pobytu? Or do I have to obtain Polish citizenship first? [17]

Hmmm, I am not sure about the 10-year rule. When I received my Karta Stałego Pobytu 4 years ago, the friendly staff at the EU section in Długa 5 told me I was entitled to apply for Polish citizenship - I was living 5 years in Poland at that time. So.... Maybe the conditions have been tightened?

Anyway I was not interested, as it does not give me anything extra, Poland being in the EU.

It's important that the legal basis for him being in PL has remained the same for 10 years

What do you mean with that, Jon ?

Easily enough in the same way that cleaning King Augeas' stables was easy enough (just a bit smelly and would take a while)?

Harry is still traumatized by the white A4 piece of paper they gave him instead of a proper Karta Pobytu :)

History / Vilnius Region must be returned to Poland! Right away! [10]

These days more people in Poland speak about historical injustice, particularly about the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact

Ok great. let's exchange it for Wrocław which then can return to Germany.

Clearly, you are not familiar with the Polish press.

Actually I am, after living a long time in Warsaw, quite familiar with the Polish press. I even take a look at Nasz Dziennik from time to time, just for amusement.

Rz is definitely a PIS mouthpiece.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

And who intends to pay for that, or at the expense of what?

Actually here I have to disagree with you. History lessons are important, people should know their past. I know I am biased, because I studied history at university :).

But what students do not need at all, is a PIS ideologically translated version of their history - which obviously would be full of distortions, not to tell plain lies.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Very rare in Europe. An example can be seen in Belgium with Vlaams Belang (or however it's spelt). Despite them being a viable coalition partner in the attempt to form a government, parties in Belgium refused to consider them.

Exactly. Vlaams Belang - which is a Flemish-nationalist, extreme-right populist party with a strong anti-foreigner program, had election results in 1990's of up to 25% in Flanders. But nobody ever wanted to talk with them, not for the federal government, not for the Flemish government, not for local coalitions. They have always been condemned to the opposition. They have fallen back to 12% now.

o get into power parties would form coalitons with the devil himself

Hmmm such as PIS working together with RP in Elbląg, or PIS in a coalition with Samoobrona?

jon357:
libertine, anarchist

This tells it all.

Not only are you lying but you are falsifying other people's postings. Why do you attach your words to Jon's name?

Pity about newspapers, but the internet is the way to go, as long as it's able to resist censorship and determined cyber-terrorists.

Although I see on the Warsaw metro more and more people with a Kindle or another e-reader...I very much prefer a real book.

Life / Pryzmat printer cartridges on Warsaw street [7]

I found a service that would deliver them to your door and take away the old ones for only slightly more money.

Is that a company only operating only in Poznań? If not, can you give a link to their website?

Life / Pryzmat printer cartridges on Warsaw street [7]

Here in my street in Warsaw there is a Pryzmat shop...The guys who sells recycled and reworked toner and ink cartridges. I took a look at their site, and the price for an ink cartridge for my Epson is almost half of that compared to an original Epson one.

Did anybody of your guys/girls already bought something like that? I do not want to ruin my printer.

Life / Where do artists like to live in Poland? [21]

said it was like Disneyland, selling a tourist's vision of Poland

And did this person explained why he/she thought so?
Kraków is not selling a tourist's vision of Poland. It is selling itself, as the ancient and preserved capital of Poland.
Comparing it to Dysneyland...I find that a degrading comment.

Wybiórcza

I see not only are you not able to spell the name of Warsaw's City President correctly, but also not the title of GW.

Life / Why is Orange Poland such a crappy / expensive network? [53]

I am with Plus, and just renewed my contract. I am paying now 40 PLN per month for 400 minutes to all networks.
Their coverage is OK.
Data transfer I do not care for, I do not have a smartphone :)
If I am on the go I have Play USB, which I just top up for the required period.

News / More technology, but less common sense in Poland - Rydzyk? [40]

Hmmm, all my friends (ok maybe two are not) and colleagues at work are Polish. But strangely enough, none of them describe to your mentality. They all think Rydzak is a common swindler. In all cases the female partner is building her own career. They all have to be therefore expats in disguise :).
