Fair enough should I edit my last post?

Nope. Look how I edited my last post. :):):)

I don't really know, it is a knife that was used for cutting cloth, no?

No, the knife is strictly connected with the legend of two towers.

More riddles:

What nationality are the soldiers?
What and why?
Where are the dates and what do they mean?
Whose countenance can you see?

Ha ha ha ha, that is the story that was told to me, it is in fact not true.

Of course, it is one of Krakow`s legends. I never said it was true. :):):)

The knife is just for the cloth market.

What does it mean?

cracow-life/culture/culture_details/1174-St_Mary%27s_Basilica

The lop-sided glory of St. Mary's is one of the most photographed sites in all Cracow. According to legend, two brothers built the towers, and one brother deliberately built higher in a bid for greater glory. When the tricked sibling returned to town and discovered the betrayal, he did away with his brother in a fit of rage (the grisly knife still hangs in the Cloth Hall). After that lovely story, we should add that St. Mary's gained most of her present form following the Tatar raid of the mid-thirteenth century. The church was to be a proud symbol of the merchants' prestige. The jewel in the crown came many years later with Veit Stoss's altar-piece - still in situ - which contains some two hundred sculpted figures. Legends abound with this building. Besides the embittered brothers, the northern tower is the home of the Hejnal trumpet call.

So what's the knife about?

OK. Two brothers were building St. Mary`s Cathedral in Krakow. One brother`s tower was taller so the other got furious and killed his rival sibling with a knife which is now hanging in the Clothes Hall.

If you wanted to tell us the knife is a replica which must be replaced a few times a year because tourists steal it, then there is no longer need to do it. :):):):):)

Kids going to ŚWIĘTY MIKO£AJ?

Yes, kids went to the theater to watch a play and afterwards there was free gift distribution. A rich company organised it for their employees` children. I spoiled the first photo but on second thoughts I kept it for riddle posing purposes.

Here is a solution to the white celebration:

Let me be first again.

It is the main square in Nowa Huta, a socialist district of Krakow, once called Central Square, today Ronald Reagan Central Square.

The main street was once named Lenin Avenue, today it is Solidarity Avenue.

Sean, next riddle, please.

You guessed the time, yes, it`s at Christmas, but you got the festivity wrong. It`s not Szopka, there is action in it! Look at the shape in the middle....

Jam in Poland is rank - nothing like the chunky fruity stuff you get in England :

Finally I have found sth for you: £owicz jams. All of them are advertised: Big pieces of fruit inside. All Polish stuff.

The only kind without big chunks is strawberry.

t's a bit of carpet left in the mud to prevent cars from sinking when it is raining?

yes, a carpet which remained after a crash.

What is this orange fence for?

Let me guess this one. I see those fences twice a week near Krakow. They prevent snow being blown onto the road by strong winds.

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

Absolute nonsense.

How did I know you would answer like that? :):)

I already told you in another thread but you wouldn`t listen. Too self-centred? :):):)

Yes, I do ask people why they are as they are. It's called discussion, you might try it sometime.

I have been discussing things with you quite long now, don`t you see I devote so much of my precious time to your posts? Do you really need more? So greedy for other people`s interest? :):):)

Religion has caused so much suffering in this world. Stop being blind to this. For what? For something intangible and unproven? Hence my allusion to negativity.

So what? Do I need to give up my religious beliefs because there were negative events connected with religion in the past? Is it foretold/ordained I will follow negative attitudes too?

Seanus, be resonable, for God`s sake ... :):):)

I asked you about church. I went to church for years if you must know.

And you lost the way and look for directions.

Pawian, don't take it personally,

Of course not. You, either. :)

MANY others have been unable to stand up to scrutiny or say why they are Catholics. For me, they'd be as well be describing any Christian denomination.

I already told you in another thread but it is obvious you wouldn`t listen.

What does your heart have to do with the Bible? I have great heart on many matters without reading a book.

:):):) This self-appraisal of yours is really amazing.

There are many religious people who actually can say why they follow this or that religion.

And they tell you about it? :):):) They haven`t given up yet? :):):)
They must be people of great enduring faith.

This is how you can tell someone deeply religious and conscious of their choices from someone who blindly follows some rituals and repeats phrases they don't understand.

Nobody`s perfect. :):):)

Have you ever talked to a Jehovah Witness? Each of them can give you a whole lecture on why they follow this faith.

I cannot give a whole lecture. I have some limitations. That is why I am not a Witness, and am a modest Catholic boy instead.

That view is closer to agnostic than Catholic.

Let it be so. Whatever you say. :):):)

As far as description is concerned, most Christians describe God as merciful, almighty, just, all-knowing, full of love, wise etc.

Thanks for reminding me. :):):)

There's no need - they willingly talk about it without asking.

That`s good. There is no need for people to hide their convictions.

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

As a Christian and Catholic, I forgive you your disrespectful words, young lady. :):):):):):)

Catholic identity and catholic faith are two very different things.

Oh la la! Today is the day of a series of brilliant revelations!!! :):):)

You have faith in something you can't define?

Yes. All religions are based on such presumption, aren`t they? To believe in sth undefinable... Can you define God? Can you describe God? No, you can`t. Yet, some people believe and that is the greatest thing in it.... :)

We generally have faith in our abilities, in others, in our judgement etc etc.

All these trivial things are well known to you so it is nothing special to believe in them. It is sth special to believe in inpalpable things beyond your recognition.

What is the Catholic faith, Greg? Do you believe in open air?

Seanus, you are visibly looking for clues in life...

Do you go to other forums and ask people: Why are you Buddhist?? What is Jewish faith? Why do you believe in Allah????

And you are gonna tell me that the world may have a religious war in the future over something which is as abstract as you paint it. Come off it.

As far as I know, I am not going to any war. What`s your problem?

This really teases out the negative side of humanity.

?

When you go to church, what do you feel Greg or pawian?

Go and try out for yourself! :):):)

Switezianka is right, many here don't have a clue, they just latch on to what they believe they should believe, without believing in that belief, LOL

Seanus, for the time being the most clueless person here is you. :):):)

Seanus and Switezianka, guys,

You are expecting answers about faith from other people, but it is in vain. Whatever is said, you will ignore or ridicule it. That is why nobody will tell you seriously. You certainly know the Biblical saying about pearls??

First of all, you must look for answers in your heart. :):):) If you cannot find them there, you won`t find them anywhere.

Is that clear?

Ask a Pole why they are Catholic, and not only Poles, and they will tell you that it's because they should be.

Can you answer a similar sillinness: why are you still alive? If you give a reasonable answer, I will tell you why I am Catholic. :):):)

Quite embarrassing really!!

What is really embarassing is asking questions why somebody is Catholic. :):):)

I prefer black (sturgeon) caviar but it became to be extremely expensive so that I haven't eaten it for the last five years.

You are lucky compared to me. The only fish eggs I have tried are salmon and various Atlantic substitutes. :):):)

Yeah, that's what I buy here. If I'm not mistaken it sounds in Polish pretty much the same as in Russian... "chleb" or smth... :)

Yes, chleb. Polish and Russian have the same Slavic roots, after all.

I won`t lie to you. There is simple multifruit juice in the glass. I sometimes pour juice into liquor glasses. My little perversion.
As for bread, it is my evryday staple food: wholemeal rye bread with sunflower seeds.

I eat white bread only with fish eggs.
