"Greedy Bumpkins"? - who fortunately help to keep the PiSuarzy far from public office.

Hard to call Petru supporters "greedy bankers". Some very fine people there.

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

Go back to post #122 and google it.

Still no proof of anything - just unproven allegations.

British and Germans "tourists" and their exploitation of children worldwide.
they turned entire countries like Thailand into brothels, where they exploit kiddies.now, they go to Cuba or Africa..

"Entire countries into brothels"??

The Cohen Bandit (misspelling intended) is buddy buddy with his ethnic compatriot Michnik

So what?

All the three 'posts' above are just trying to deflect from the real issue - which is a sad and serious one. If the RCC can admit that there have been failings in the past, it's a shame that some here do anything to say otherwise and to distract attention from the situation in Poland.

One example would be the way that volunteers who want to work in a orphanage have to go through very rigorous health tests, psychological profiling and criminal background checks before they can give their time to help

This is the heart of the matter. I wouldn't advocate that Poland follows the UK, where even an allegation that has been proven beyond any doubt to be false (even in the rare cases where the accuser is successfully prosecuted for lying) prevents anyone ever working with kids (or even seeing their own grandchildren unsupervised), however the situation does require some joined-up thinking. There are far fewer cases that come to court in Poland than in the English-speaking world, due to the higher burden of proof (this is good) and a reluctance to speak out if crimes actually do occur plus the lack of 'compensation culture' (in the UK false accusers can get compensation just for reporting something, whether it's established that a crime has occurred or not), however it is important to find a balance.

It's as if the issue is ignored here in Poland. There was a case here recently where three 16 year-old girls were on the game. It was not dealt with as a child protection issue. There is also a reluctance on the part of Social Workers to intervene in problem families and a belief that problems are best sorted out "within the family" - however toxic that family may be.

And of course as compensation culture develops (and this has started) we can expect it all to blow up suddenly and become a huge issue.

Utrecht...without re-ordination. The married .....ordained anew

Theologically complex - however an issue for a very different thread.

The outcome can vary a lot based on what is said and what is done

Which is why the good guys, Platforma, PSL, Petru etc need to sit back, show some unity and give the Dud every opportunity to put his foot in his mouth.

not only the RCC.

Are there issues with the Scouting movement in Poland too?

Well anyone with lots of money (Parliment) thinks that, not just the RCC clergy.

Although I'm not aware of any proven cover-up in the Polish parliament or any other, we do know that cover-ups have been admitted to and proven within the RCC.

My point was why are the priests being targeted in Poland ?

The issue is that far from being 'targeted', they have been protected by their employer and allows to continue abusing.

The government of Poland should have the ability in this day and age of computers to be able to do
back ground checks on anyone teaching/having access to young children as a profession, not just priests.

This is possible, however there are those who like to think that clergy should be above the law.

All the sex-related garbage ............... is also seeping across the border,

None of this is new to Poland - the same issues have always existed everywhere. The issue is how sensibly they are dealt with and whether or not issues are covered up - as they have been in Poland.

I want to know why rcc priests cannot marry.

To stop then bequeathing assets to their wives and children originally. Some RCC priests are married though, especially Uniates and ones who've converted from Anglicanism. Very few in Poland though and as far as I know this has no impact on child abuse.

However, they are not going to have any negative effect in Poland

Quite. And the more issues are avoided, the bigger the sh1tstorm when they blow up later, as we have seen elsewhere.

Law / Cash loan in Poland without PESEL [49]

Of course one can borrow money from those "companies" advising on trees and on bus stops but not the best idea

A dreadful idea even - and of course most of those would require a PESEL and/or a guarantor. The OP would do well to look at raising the money in his home country.

None freely admit but all of them cover up.

Any sources for that within Poland? Or is it just another untruth that you were hoping to slip under the net.

Pol3, that quote is not from me.

By the way, worth mentioning that people are innocent unless proven guilty - your example of Lord Janner needs to be tempered with the fact that he is being investigated but has not been charged with anything.

focuses on mainy a single source: the RCC. Coincidence, horse-blinkeredness, vindictiveness (buggered in the confessional?), pure spite or what?

More because this forum and this thread are about Poland - are there many Southern Baptists in this country?

This is a good suggestion. Thinking about it though, they'd probably expect him to be registered as resident. And on reflection, even Provident Polska probably would expect that and a PESEL too.

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

The RCC in Poland most certainly do just that, as demonstrated by the cases mentioned above.

This is the whole issue here - not just that it happens, but the way child protection issues are dealt with. Another issue is that in Poland it is very hard to prevent someone released from prison for abusing their own child from returning to the family home if they have a meldunek.

Yes jon, the link I provided explains that fully.

No it doesn't. You suggested that HM The Queen was involved in child abuse earlier!

BTW, unproven allegations about well-known people in another country do not relate in any sense to the situation in Poland - except perhaps to show the contrast between something being highly publicised and investigated in order to discover if there is any truth in the allegations or swept under the carpet.. Indeed it is deliberately going off topic.

What about PT instructors, scoutmasters, teachers, doctors, etc.

Do many of their employers admit to routinely covering up their crimes and enabling them to offend again?

Wasn't that the case in Witonia with that Wincent Pawlowicz?

Looks like the same one - no name or village were given at the time.

There's also the Dominican Republic case, Father Wojciech Gil. He was protected by the Polish church (and vigorously defended by the usual suspects on here). He has pleaded guilty and is now serving a sentence. If it wasn't for 'the liberal media' he would still be at large, doubtless in a parish.

Archbishop Josef Wesolowski (defrocked now) is currently in the Vatican awaiting an 'internal' trial - they won't let him be extradited and he is claiming diplomatic immunity.

Significant too that Pope JPII's bosom buddy Abp. Paetz was never tried for any crime :-(

You're right that his choices are limited. A better way would be for him to register as resident (he does work here after all) and get a credit card. Also, a loan from a friend or an advance payment for work are possibilities. Much better than using a semi-legal loan shark.

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

Not only teachers but also priests.

Absolutely.

The issue with clergy isn't just about whether they've done it or not, but about the way the RCC has covered up proven cases and helped people who are guilty evade justice. Some dioceses abroad have admitted they did this. There was also a case in the UK where they paid a parent to keep quiet.

There have been cases of people coming forward (when they got a whiff of the big money swirling about) that claimed a deceased priest had buggered them when they were young.

This is also true. When compensation for historic allegations was stopped just over the border in Germany, the number of allegations dropped by 80% overnight.

Not quite the only - especially if he has access to credit in his home country. He should explore every alternative before considering that one.

A very bad thing to do. The criticism of them (and the techniques of their 'agents') is very justified.

Work / CELTA or TEFL for a job in Poland? [3]

I should have CELTA not TEFL.

That's a bit vague - TEFL isn't the name of a qualification. CELTA isn't the only one (Trinity Cert for example is equivalent - basically it has to have 120 hours of observed teaching). CETLA is the best known and that or an equivalent will make the difference between a decent job or a crap one.

Also, with a lot of Asian countries they require you to have a bachelors degree. Would I need one to teach in Poland/Europe? Thank You

Not absolutely required, especially for older people with a decent CV and/or other qualifications, however in Poland it is generally expected and the better training companies/language schools will certainly expect one. Private students would also be reluctant to use a language teacher without a degree unless word of mouth has told them they the teacher is absolutely first class.

Terri's right. Only a bank can tell you.

Just a guess, but I suspect they'd say no, due to the risk of you vanishing off home with the bank's money. A better bet might be to apply for a credit card in your home country (depends of course where that is) and do it that way.

DO NOT touch private loan companies like Provident Polska etc. Using them is a bad idea.

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

the Queens alledged involvement herself.

WTF?

It happens way to often that an irrate divorcing woman coaches the child to turn on the father for revenge.
The ex wife coaches the child to lie.

This is very close to the truth, unfortunately.

It turns out that RC clergy or other clergy for that matter do not have a higher rate of paedophilia convictions than others groups

That issue isn't about how many of them do it or don't do it, it's about how dioceses have helped some clergy evade justice - they have admitted doing that.

The thing is not the amount of paedophilia cases in church but how the church acted.

Exactly

It also turns out that the 2% homosexuals account for over one-third of all paedophilic assaults on young boys.

Or perhaps they're just one of those groups like teachers who are especially vulnerable to false allegations.... It's also an affluent demographic, which is a magnet for chancers. Most false allegations by the way are as Johnny Reb said, connected to a divorce, especially from former step-daughters.

Life / Going to Poland in a hijab - Polish people and Islam [154]

There are several mosques in Warsaw. The biggest one is at ul. Wiertniczej 103 (about 20 minutes from the centre by bus). This is where native Poles who are Muslim tend to pray and there is also a small Cultural Centre there.

Another is in Ursus (mostly but not only for the Turkish and Chechen communities).
There's also the new mosque (beautiful building) at Ronda Zesłańców Syberyjskich near the city centre. There is also the Muslim Cultural Centre there.

There's also the Ahmadiyya mosque at ul. Dymnej in Włochy and there are two small groups of local Shi'a Muslims.

While you're here, you should make a point of visiting the Seventeenth Century wooden mosque at Kruszniany.

You will have no problem finding Halal restaurants, and there is a Halal butcher round the corner from the ul. Wiertniczej mosque.

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

That wouldn't surprise me. I know of one awful case (reported at the time in some, but only some of the Polish media) of a case of a lady in a village who walked in on her 10 year old son and the parish priest. He'd even rigged up a camera and was filming what he was doing. She (after presumably screaming the place down) contacted the police, he vanished from the parish and when she tried to chase up at the police station to find where he'd been taken by the church etc was told all the paperwork had been taken to Warsaw at the instruction of a higher agency than the police. She was told there were to be no public scandals connected to the church prior to JPII's planned visit. Worth mentioning that was during the short-lived PiS regime.

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

Do you know of even a single case in which a Polish RCC priest (or nun for that matter) has been convicted of child abuse and later had the verdict overturned?

No. Although this is increasingly common in the UK (plus judges stopping trials on the first day) it doesn't happen so much in Poland because of a. the statute of limitations, b. the higher burden of proof, so not just one person's word against another and c. the low levels of compensation for accusers.

I have heard of cases where priests have done their time, been let out and then gone straight back to their old job

This is not Poland-specific and the real issue in the RCC is how proven crimes were covered up, but yes, the fact that this happens is bizarre. The complete opposite of UK ('scuse me citing the UK all the time but I know more than I'd like to about it unfortunately and am involved in campaigns so can easily draw comparisons) where even one allegation, even if proven false, can prevent an innocent person of ever working with minors and can even cause access problems to their own kids.

This is one area where the rather annoying Polish legal system works in the favour of the truth, however some scarily lax child protection issues too.

Results just don't bear that out. In any case they always do far better in the ballot box than in opinion polls.

Interesting though that you describe the PiS flappers as "good old" when that party is neither of those things.

And once he's busted PO can run those long favour adverts along the lines of 'Vote Kukiz, get Kaczynski', especially if Kukiz is stupid enough to say anything at all about entering a coalition with PIS.

The coalition thing will rear its head sooner or later, like the elephant in the room. I do hope Platforma wait for the PiSuarzy or Kukiz to raise it. That will have maximum effect, since the thought of Kaczynski getting near power again (as he briefly did before being dumped mid-term) will cause a rush of support to any party that will help to prevent that.

Polls in Poland are notoriously unreliable. I seem to remember you swearing blind that the PiSuarzy would win last time and that also JK would be elected president. Both predictions your usual codswallop.

And PSL nowhere to be seen, despite always doing well and having a hard core of voters.

And of course the mainstream PiS-bashing, pro-PO Polish media like Wybiórzca and TVN had nothing to do with it.

You mean the media that Poles prefer.

Every high health-risk individual is barred from professions where he/she could harm others. Be it a leper, homosexual

More pure fiction from you about your favourite subject. You think about it an awful lot, don't you....

No, just make sure that more people in Polska A actually vote.

Bingo.
