UK, Ireland / Websites for Poles to benefit from Britain! [210]

But what I do believe is that we shouldn't, as a collective people, pay for the folly of our leaders. This is why benefits should be strictly monitored as it is essentially our money they are playing with.

Hudson, haven't you once thought that it is the system that is wrong? Poles merely claim what Britain gives them. Well, maybe with some creative extras but that's unprovable by myself. Only based on hearsay.

UK, Ireland / The Slavic Tax Thieves Stealing from the UK [29]

I've noticed that many Poles are procedural when it comes to invoices but when mutually beneficial tax avoidance comes in then they will partake in it. I agree with that thinking. I get stung enough here as it is.

Good points, isthatu2, neatly sidestepping suspension traps :)

I really don't hear much about Poles evading tax here. The tax office is too rigorous with its checks.

Poles can often circumvent loopholes and it's just in their nature. An enforcement system should be one step ahead but it clearly isn't.

Oh yes, secret services will be on my back now ;) Oops ;)

Britain always seems to cough up the funds from its coffers. How it does it, I'll never know. It goes beyond enticements to work. If the EU was really that fair, Poland would have to pay the same kind of benefits but you can't get jack here. Poland is a state that would happily let people fall by the wayside, woefully out of touch with how inflation has affected low-income earners.

Wrocław, you've been in Poland long enough to know what I mean. Some have told me straight that they have no qualms about milking the British cow due to being stung by years of communism, for which they blame Britain.

Hudson, your last post was well off-topic.

Now, why don't you answer my question? Don't you have faith in the tax enforcement system?

No, I think the Soviets wouldn't have tangled with a nuclear Britain and America, especially after what the Americans did in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Simple!! The pretext was there to create a new enemy in communism. Not very good at geopolitics, are you? The blueprints were clear.

So, benefits anyone?

Benefits is what many Brits take. Poles take them because they are entitled to them, simple!

Isthatu2, all's fair in love and war. Many Brits say that!

Yes, Angel Eyes, some of them were Polish. They fought and died too and they didn't have the benefit of a water channel to protect them and allow themselves to get prepared.

Many of MY people died too, AE, so cut the nonsense, please.

Why bring the Slavic element into it? Those benefits are payback for Britain's WWII negligence. And please don't spring the 'we were avoiding a war with the Soviet Union crap' as it doesn't wash with me.

I really don't think many Brits can get their heads round just what being plunged headlong into communism was like or meant. Many Poles have to slave away for very little whilst quite a few Brits lead opulent lives for doing what exactly???

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

I'm sure he tried to justify it in many ways. It seems to be a skill amongst quite a few folk here to do that. Oh, the child needed love or children are maturing faster these days etc etc. I don't think some people here need defence lawyers as they've got it all worked out in advance.

News / The cross in Polish parliament - Does it bother you? [100]

Olaf, so what if sb plants a timebomb in the Sejm? Would they hold round-the-clock discussions on whether it should be there or not or would sb have the sense to defuse it or send it on somewhere else? ;) Their own support is more important than the Constitution??? That really is a blow for Polish law enforcement and, frankly, immature of them.

If religion is solely believing then the church is the cross's rightful place. However, if I've interpreted it correctly, Catholics value 'good deeds' which means you have to work in society to achieve salvation. What's the problem with having crosses as reminders of Jesus's sacrifice?? Why are their crosses on the side of the roads for fatalities?

News / Poland a top pot producer? Legalization? [30]

Pol3 just can't see it. The fact is that the Taliban had become awkward and were a convenient pretext. I'd love to see Pol3 tell Nick Berg that the war is a just one. Or that other prisoner whose name eludes me.

Pol3, ever smoked pot?

Then why the FOX pet lines about the War on Terror? I'd much rather people smoke pot in the privacy of their own homes as consenting adults than have people killed, beheaded and mutilated to serve the agenda of greed.

Pol3, I really think you suck up what FOX news tells you. Sean Hannity is evil. Palikot is merely branching out debates here in Poland. He is not brainwashing like FOX try to do.

Language / A list of steps/rules on how to translate English into Polish? [22]

Different things should be translated in different ways. Jokes, for example, rely on specific words and only that word will convey the required meaning. I've sometimes had to use Polish as I couldn't find a word in English to express what I had in mind.

Translating general sentiment is much easier but a lot comes through feel. Sometimes you just feel that it's wrong. Trial and error first, catsoldier.
