Life / Individualism in Polish culture...Is it almost Nonexistant? [170]

The difference was that we had much knowledge about what was going on on your side of iron curtain than you had about what's was going on on our side.

Well, let's put it that way, it's not that we didn't know it, it's more that no one really cared to know it (talking general population).

There was no "war on drugs", with 70,000 police raids on private homes a year, like in the present-day United States. There was no "war on terror" scare and no associated deprivation of individual rights

You're funny, man.LOL You guys lived behind the iron curtain. There was no war on drugs because Poland was far behind the west back then and drug abuse wasn't as widely spread as it is now (which is actually a positive thing in my opinion), there was no war on terror because there was no terror (unless you count robbing your human rights by your own government).

They just aren't telling the truth - time is clouding historical truth

Well, if I have to choose who to believe, a whole bunch of older people I've met there, who didn't have absolutely any reasons to lie to me or opinions of some biased PF members (not necessarily you though), you know my pick.

Spain was (at the start of the package holiday boom) still very much under the control of the Falangists, and not a particularly pleasant place for people from Communist countries ;)

Spain was just an example. What I basically meant was that Poles would rather travel to any country outside the iron curtain.

I travelled (za komuny) to Czechoslovakia,Romania,Hungary and East Germany and I can tell you there were differences because I have seen them with my own eyes.

Well, of course you had to have a passport but other than that, the whole system was run from Moscow and we both know it's true.

I doubt you have ever been in any of KDL countries then why do you post like you know anything? It wasn't like going from "state to state" and Soviet republics were a different cup of tea.Seriously, don't talk about something you have very little idea about.

Grubas, I talked to many Poles when I was there and I've been repeatedly told that there was no freedom in Poland "za komuny" whatsoever and that the decisions were made in Moscow. If you deny that, then you have a very little idea about it, my friend. It wasn't just one or two people who told me that but just about anyone I've met there (whoever lived there as an adult before 1989).

4 eigner, this is not about "could" but about "would".

wrong, exactly the other way around. When I was in Poland, many Poles were telling me that one of the biggest problems back then was lack of freedom and a part of that freedom was the ability to travel around the world. They would travel much more if they were allowed to. Just look at it now, you see them anywhere you go.

Did people in the UK (for instance) really go much further than Spain and Italy during the Cold War? Not really.

DD, I thought you were smarter than that :-) The answer is, they could go anywhere they wanted, Poles couldn't.

Common myth. Poles (along with Czechoslovaks, Hungarians and East Germans) had plenty of opportunity to travel to other Socialist countries.

Oh c'mon man, that doesn't count and you know it. It's like if I go from one state to another. In reality, all these countries were Soviet republics, we all know it.

USA, Canada / Chris Gets Dumped on the Bachelorette for Being Polish! [52]

Dutch people are ok, because they're "Western" European and not foreign to Americans in the same way Poles are.

Again PTA, those of you who speak English fluently, don't have any problems here (not that kind of problems anyway).

Emily could barely understand them at point. They spoke Dutch IN FRONT OF HER when she had no idea what they were saying (which is rude in any language),

OK, that explains everything (don't watch the show myself).

White Americans think people are not American just because Polish is their culture!

Not because of their Polish culture but because Poles in the US, usually live together in their little communities and avoid contact with Americans. Those of you who want to mingle with us, don't have any problems. I've met a lady from Chicago who lived here for over 30 years and she barely spoke English and she's not alone, I'm sure you know it too.

Polish people always get rejected

you know I like you but I have to disagree with you here. People get rejected for all kinds of reasons but not for being Polish (not generally).

What a strange thing to say about somebody who wants to become your countryman.

He's a freaking criminal and doesn't deserve to be our countryman.

Love / Is it acceptable for a Polish male to have a German girlfriend? [58]

Vier Eigner, as English is not your first language, I'll cut you the minimum of slack. Apart from that, I fail to connect your last post with my or other posters' comments heretofore:-)

If it was somebody else, I'd give him a chance to call me, here in the states to end this bs but someone like you, who has a problem with Poles having German girlfriends or the other way around (which is as dumb as it gets), is also a potential psycho stalker and I'm not gonna waste my energy on arguing with you. Besides, I don't feel like I owe you any proof to begin with.

Ah, but there's where you're wrong, Vier Eigner!

quit ridiculing (trying to) me if you really want to discuss. I could ridicule you for having backward ideas but I don't do it so keep it nice or be ready to carry the consequences of your nonsense behavior.

Should I just learn German?

yep. German is a pretty useful language, especially in Europe.

Love / ARE POLISH GIRLS GOLD-DIGGERS? [359]

it's a kindness to a guy, especially his ego, when a woman tells him she dumped him because he does not have enough money.

Are you serious? LOL
