Language / Poles struggle with English vowels [42]

A Chimp can speak basic English.

in fact, they can't..:) there have been many trials and efforts to do that. google 'Nim Chimsky'
Anyway I am sure my children's father speaks better English than you do..:):) thanks.

You say that making a 'th' is simple, but if it is not in your language, its hard to remember to do it (muscle memory)

For example in Welsh we have 'll' which is like a normal 'L' but instead of removing your tongue from your top gum, you leave it there, and blow through. Simple right? but for some reason every Welsh learner I have met is convinced that this is a 'CL' sound.

Language / Poles struggle with English vowels [42]

I never understood why

in our case, sheer laziness and a desire to show off their English..:):)

It's all about your vowel sounds! I haven't particularly noticed the ship/sheep thing with Polish people though; more with Italians and Spanish.

Work / Dutch translator job Warsaw- salary? [21]

translated by a Pole into English with all the literalisms that you would expect and this at quite a high level, government documents and so on.

yes there is a whole different way of expression which doesnt always translate very well into English. they need a native speaker to edit.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

well you were happily joining in a bit of anti Brit rhetoric approx 16 mins ago weren't you? Tsk. Then when you realise someone is going to pick you up on the nonsense that you spout, you start whining about your head..:):)

I dont think anyone is going to be really affected. The govt needs the workers.

i do NOT sound like Delph, thanks.
Honestly J'R you sound deluded, and it is really obvious you have never been here. do you really think that Polish are the only immigrant workers?

On the building site of today, Poles are in the minority. The work is being done by Romanians, Moldovans, Albanians, whoever. I know that cos my son was just working on a building site in the big city.

if you are lazy, like easy life, time off

so you don't offer time off then? What is the pay?
I bet you are one of those people who say they won't employ English because they are 'lazy' when the truth is you just want someone to exploit.

PAYE? Holiday pay?

Life / Driving skills of drivers in Poland? [41]

women are a crappy drivers, dangerous too

oh right that must be why women's insurance premiums are invariably lower..:):)
Your 'logic' is astounding.
Perhaps we should just say that some people are bad drivers, whether they have a penis or not..:)

Life / Driving skills of drivers in Poland? [41]

yes they drive safely and normally. That is why their insurance premiums are lower. Duh.
I have seen what people who passed their tests in Poland do..

It happens all the time. I personally think that until the Polish test is improved, Polish people should have their driving licences revoked at the border. Every border.

well that's very good for you dear. Quality not quantity though isn't it? You do know that Polish licences/drivers are literally a joke in the UK don't you?

I am quite sure I am a better driver than you Nottie. If you wish to generalise by gender then I will do it by nationality.

I am not saying that ALL Polish people are bad drivers, just that if I see one ahead of me on the road, I hang back and try to find an alternative route.

Study / British Council CELTA in Krakow, how would you rate it? [60]

I am taking back everything I wrote yesterday

I am having a point of view

you are not from Australia are you?
Even when you start lesson planning, an hours lesson should not take more than an hour to prepare.
I also like to give nice handouts - eg no chunks of black, referenced properly, hole punched. However this only takes a minute or two longer than doing horrible ones.

I don't think 'TEFL' is for you tbh.

oh come on, since when was copying someone's accent 'bullying'? He probably doesn't even realise he is doing it tbh.
Honestly, it's a tough few weeks. Put your big boy pants on and whatever you do, maintain eye contact with whoever you are speaking to.

It will all be over soon! hang in there!

Language / American pancakes are not Poland's naleśniki! [45]

Shrove Tuesday?

thin pancakes.
You mix flour, eggs, milk, and a spoon of oil and a pinch of salt in a big bowl until it's a runny constituency. Let it stand for an hour before use. This is important.

You heat the pan with just a smidgin of oil and ladle some batter in, moving the pan around so that the batter covers the bottom of it. If you have good pan, you should be able to pick it up, shake the pancake back and forth, and then flip it over. This takes years of practice..:)

Your first pancake will not be that nice, so give it to the dog or an annoying houseguest.
The second pancake will be lovely, and so will the rest.
Traditionally you cover it with sugar and lemon juice, and then roll it up to serve. Alternatives are jam, nutella or whatever takes your fancy.

One Easter, I stacked up a pile of these with jam or nutella between each one, covered the stack with squirty cream, and then cut into like a cake. Lush.

Spiritus, I think crepes and pancakes are essentially the same thing, just the French obviously think theirs are better.
