News / The Economist: time to rethink old notions about Poland [67]

what is wrong if you use a horse? It's nice looking and eco-friendly.

Exactly. When you use the horse power instead of a tractor in the field, the grass is less damaged. And it is fertilised at the same time.

History / Battle of Grunwald 1410 The biggest medieval battle. Germans smashed. [174]

Two brotherly nations fighting each other is no fun at all.

How we invaded Ukraine with the Crown army, how we massacred you little peasants under Beresteczeko killing 70.000 of your peasant army losing only 850 soldiers and putting you back in your place for good?:)

What Poles gained at Beresteczko, they lost at the next battle at Batoh. This time it was Poles who panicked and tried to flee the battlefield. Eventually, cossacks, on Chmielnicki`s orders, executed Polish prisoners in revenge for Beresteczko, producing 8000 dead Poles.

The Battle of Batoh destroyed the best Crown units. Although Poland managed to rebuild her army soon after the battle, the loss of the most experienced troops resulted in temporary weakness in Ukraine. Defeat of the Poles contributed to the wars to come with Russia, which in turn resulted in the 'deluge' of the country by Swedish armies.

Law / Polish Cop Took My Car Registration :S [143]

The procedure is as follows. The police send all seized registration papers to the Council Office, Urząd Miasta. The driver has to pay a visit to one of technical check-up stations and have a check up of the car, usually paid. With a piece of stamped paper from a check station, you go to Council Office and retrieve your papers.

It worked this way in my case, once my papers were seized when the police noticed the broken shield screen. I had delayed with changing it because I was planning to sell the car anyway. I was unlucky.

600 years between them and for both you needed help (first Lithuanians and then the whole world)

PS. Not only Lithuanians. Also Belarussians.
Today Belarus is even making a film about their victory at Tannenberg 1410.

as if you were fighting alone:D

Exactly::):):):)

You really seem to need those reminders!ROFL

Like air. :):):) Whenever I recall how Poles managed to push back the Teutonic invaders, I feel complacent and work goes faster.

News / Poland's fidelity to support wars and its limits. [46]

Give us the link to the forum, Pawian.
I might register there and wreak some havoc in my spare time - should be fun ;-)

It is useless now. After the ferment I caused there with my 3000 posts, true Russians left the forum and only Russia- fascinated Americans remained. :):):):)

I also hate one thing in Russians, I mean this famous Russian desire to be subdued by a master, lord, a "good tsar", "batushka", who is believed to be able to defend Russian peoples. I cannot bear with patience their blind and stupid habit to let themselves be governed by the most brutal rascals available in Russia.

This question should be investigated apart, I could explain you the our habits and customst and where they come from, with more details.

You don`t have to explain anything. I know the reason very well. Russians prefer strong leaders, even rascals, who, trampling on people`s rights, keep Russia in one piece. You fear that without a strong leader your country will fall apart. That is why Russians accept the rule of the whip for the sake of keeping the unity of the country. Russians are patriots - they wouldn`t like to see the disintegration of Russia and are able to sacrifice their own personal liberties for that.

Law / How to register for doctor in Poland (by area) [16]

I'm wondering whether or not it is free if I want to have physical check for my body every year?

Hmm, I am not sure. Poles have no tradition of doing regular check ups. They consult doctors when sth is happening and such consultation is free, as long as you are insured as a wrking person.

I think you have to pay for check up at your wish.

News / Poland's fidelity to support wars and its limits. [46]

Yes,if you noticed under the gentle Yeltsin the Russians failed to work and lost respect for government.

Exactly. Yeltsin was the only Russian ruler who tried to introduce some elements of real democracy into Russia. His aim failed, and till today Russians deem democracy as a harmful system for their country.

In this land the ruler has to use the whip.

Yes, but isn`t it fascinating to try to understand what makes Russian people desire this whip so much??? :):):) And other typical Russian traits are also attractive - famous Russian soul, their fatalistic attitude to life, their drinking oneself to death, great music culture, etc etc etc

You see now Ukraine in how deep sh1t it is due to lack of a powerful leader.

I don`t think so, maybe it is true in case of Eastern Ukrainians who spent the last 300 years under Russian rule, they feel and think Russian.

But Western Ukrainians, who were dominated by Poland once, are more independent thinkers and doers.

News / Poland's fidelity to support wars and its limits. [46]

Wait a minute pawian, what do you mean!? You assert that I would have a liaisons with you? With Polack?

Unfortunately, yes. You are one of those few Russians who seem to be fascinated/attracted by Polishness, remaining deeply suspicious about it at the same time. That makes you hang around Polish forums.

I know this syndrome very well because it also works in my case, but the other way round and it made me join a Russian forum a few years ago.

However, there is one thing I cannot bear with patience, their blind and stupid habit to choose wrong allies and irritate mighty neighbours to no purpose.

We have a lot of things in common. After all, we are Slavs. :):):)
I feel so aggravated when Russians not only accept but even crave for more leadership of that kind. The more brutal, the better. That is one of the things which has always fascinated me in Russians.

Language / Polish and Hungarian, how similar? [53]

Polish and Hungarian are as different as English and Chinese.

Hungarian isn`t IndoEuropean language. Some words which in European languages sound similar, e.g., milk, mleko, Milch, moloko, in Hungarian is tej..
Wine, wino, wein, in Hungarian - bor.

Look at this site.

It drives me crazy when I read or hear moron journalists using curator

Love / Polish boyfriend coming to visit [52]

Lol at these "should I kiss my polish bf threads"

Do whatever you want. WHy do you need to ask random people on a forum?!

It is important. The language of body signs and gestures may be totally different in another country. Nodding your head means yes in Poland and most of Europe, but no in Bulgaria and Albania.

If you were to meet an Eskimo or Aboriginal guy at the airport for the first time, would you be so sure what to do with him or her? I bet you wouldn`t.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

It is, but that picture looks a lot different than what this Jew eats.

Are you talking about this?:

Remember, I have presented a Polish Jewish dish which, after centuries of cooking, survived in some parts of Poland till today.

This carp is also boiled and I assure you it is extremely sweet, not only because of sugar but also raisins, both of which I add abundantly. Plus almonds and other tasty stuff.

We have another kind of carp in Israel that's called oriental fish and its baked with tomato sauce, onions, pepper and other spices. I prefer that. I remember my grandmother having carp swimming in a pail in the kitchen.

We also bave this variant - called Greek carp.

As for swimming, a pail is inhumane. We sacrifice the whole bath for the fish. Go to have a shower to our neighbours`. :):):):):)

We have just finished oour supper. The salmon fish wasn`t bad, actually, it was as delicious as carp, but I still feel I turned down tradition in some way.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

I am desperate. I didn`t buy carp for Eve. I visited a few places in Krakow and found out the carp was sold out. In one hypermarket, on the other side of Krakow, there was a lot of carp but the queue was for 3, 4 hours` waiting. I joined a 15 minute queue and bought two salmons instead.

Now I am drinking heavily. Christmas without carp. Unbelievable.

I will try to look for it tommorrow.

Travel / Is it safe to travel to Poland? [194]

I was wondering if it would be safe for me and my family to travel to Poland on our own? Thanks,

Of course. I always travel on my own and never ever has anything nasty happened to me.

Lookie here, I am carrying a piece of wood for my own campfire. Very often Polish locals help me carry those heavy logs. They never try to rob me of this wood.

News / Freezing weather in Poland, 42 people dead in winter freeze... and no-one cares? [140]

but we cant manage to get homeless people off the streets a week before Christmas? In Russia, I accept this. The state doesnt care. But Poland? Why people must die?

What you propose is removing the homeless from streets by force? Against their will?

We are in Poland. People are free here, they may do what they want. The police and other forces have no right to detain a homeless person and land him/her in a shelter hostel.

And many homeless people don`t want to land there because the rules are strict in such shelters: you drink, you are out.
They prefer to drink, even if it means death outside.

You all debate amongst yourselves, but this is a political issue " WHAT IS THE POLISH GOVERNMENT DOING ABOUT IT ".
FCUK ALL.

Hey, a secret desire of coming back to communist times? When the government decided about everything by thousands regulations?

Isn`t it high time people took care of themselves, instead of counting on government`s help?

How can they do it? One major regulation: don`t drink alcohol and go out into freezing weather. How simple.

Do you think the government should do sth with this drinking? E.g., a little prohibition? No alcohol sale when it is freezing?

Work / Why is Polish workmanship so bad? [52]

The list goes on and on, Why the fu ck can't they do things properly and it really is worrying that people with this attitude are going to the UK to work.

Unfortunately, people with this attitude have stayed in Poland. They are waste indeed.
The ones who went to UK are clever, well-organised, dynamic guys who do the job right. We badly miss them here.

But the overall tone of your initial post is exaggerated. I have had services done for me many times, including major renovation in a flat, and only once or twice I have been ripped off or the service was lousy. I must have been lucky to run into proper guys.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

the tradition is ok but if you eat carp from the bath check for pubic hairs.

I have never seen a pubic hair in a bath here. Why do you meddle with your own personal experience into Polish context? :):):):):):):)
