Food / Is Polish food still more natural than in the West? [142]

But I think it's fair to say that Poles do take their salads more seriously though - a few seem to come out at every meal which wouldn't necessarily be the case in the UK or Ireland.

Exactly. If I don`t eat salad every day, I am mad.

Ingredients from the fresh food market:

First I thought it was crazy new dance, but then I saw the date and thought it might be people celebrating something on the streets.

No celebrating.
Tip: Polish music. Popular in the country.

Yes, it looks like that, but believe me, they are dancing. The guy is sweating like a horse :):):):)
First I saw this picture in 1990s paper, then on a street poster in Poznan.

Food / Is Polish food still more natural than in the West? [142]

I would disagree, there is quite a lot of foods that are Polish made and have a lot of chemicals, such as bread, unless it is made in a natural way. Beer/wine has lots of chemical to speed the fermentation process.

Hmm, I am not such an expert, I don`t have a laboratory at home to examine food.
But I always prefer Polish food to foreign, like most Poles, I think. The only exception is fruit and veg - oranges, tangerines etc.

History / Where Are Milicjanci (Polish Police during Communism) Now? [7]

Many of them must still be alive breathing our air; they must have names and addresses, email addresses, mobile phone numbers...

And they left their stuff behind. During this holiday, at a military picnic, I bought a communist militia baton as a nice souvenir. It is a really painful device....

I would have guessed that too, but then I thought it was just a giant windbreak for the playground ;-)

is it the Japanese center in Krakow by Wisla?

they make oscypki there?

Nope.
Two tips: both structures are in Poznań and their purpose is to go inside and watch......

History / Poles organized the first strike in US in 1619 [72]

Oh come oooon...Speer on the "dark side of the german soul"????

He would be a feted economy and architecture expert today too..:)

They didn`t teach you in German schools about millions (7) slave workers in Nazi Germany? Speer was one of those who supervised labour issues and was directly responsible for slaves` misery.

What did he get 20 years in Nurnberg for after all, huh? Any idea? Just because he was unlucky to be on the losers` side? :):):):)

Erm...
Are you obsessed with Hitler in some way???

Me? No. But I thought you are....

But yeah...the world was impressed by the well oiled german machinery back then too! ;)

Yes. In result, its creators got special prizes in Nurnberg. :):) Hey, BTW, I am reading Speer`s diary now. He got 20 years for developing the machinery.

Pieprzniki

Exactly. I think you solved the riddle perfectly, let`s have another one:

What is the purpose of this structure?

This lovely statue is in a town in Małapolstka.

I think no one answered this one. Myślenice?

Nothing beats a beautiful, well oiled, smooth running machine...

You probably imagine a German crematorium now..... :):)

It might seem strange to you, but I feel no fear. Why?

Because Russia is getting more Polish every year. People have learnt how to stop fearing the state and its representatives. :):):)

Biecz.

Yes - the town where hangmen got trained in the Middle Ages.

ha, ha, ha no, mother in law - the boss;)

Aaaah, now I understand the last sentence:

I always insist the MIL ofeers sandacz and kreguelnia too at Xmas - and good sport as she is - she does me proud :)

I agree - kerguelene is also tasty. Almost like carp. But its little bones.....

What is going on?

It's all to do with the cooking - but - carp was cheap - because it was quick growing. But zero taste, apart from what it was cooked in.

I dare to disagree and still stick to my opinion. Carp is my favourite fish. And it is not so cheap in Poland.
Look, this is all for us:

But you are free to believe in what you say. :):):):)

And those fecking bones!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the smallest problem because I perfectly know where the bones are.

Secondly it's not slav food, the Jews introduced it.

All the better. :):):):) My mother loved Jewish style carp. Look:

ow that the country is richer, no one in their right mind would eat it unless they are Kaczynski supporters

:):):)

I always insist the MIL ofeers sandacz and kreguelnia too at Xmas - and good sport as she is - she does me proud :)

Does MIL mean Men In Leadership, a multi-chapter organization celebrating men in leadership?

News / Poland standing tall in troubled times [11]

In NL they privatized these things and look what a mess it is now: in my area I hear that the mail is delivered by four different companies, one for the leaflets, one for the mail up to 20 grammes, one for all the other mail and one for packages :(

So what? You didn`t explain what is wrong with it? Is the system inefficient?

When respect to government become slavery?

Respect to government, no matter if it is democratic, fascist or communist, is a characteristic of Germans.
In case of Russians we should talk not about respect to government, but fear of it and of repression it may use on individuals, groups or whole nations if they disobey.

Poles have a natural tendency to anarchy

I wouldn`t call it anarchy. Let`s say it is a natural tendency to live in a free environment without too many rules and do what one thinks is good for him/her. :):):)

But I don't think Germans of today are like that.

Who in 1939, the beginning of WW2, predicted that Germans would do what they did? :):):):)

Normal, decent, family oriented Germans. But they were so disciplined that when their leaders told them to go and kill Jews, Poles, Russians etc, they obeyed. Weren`t happy about those orders, but obeyed.

Do you think today`s Germans have become so unruly and undisciplined they wouldn`t obey similar orders from their leaders? :):):):):):)

Hopefully countries of Europe can move ahead from the past.

Of course, they can and most have already done. However, there will always be people obsessed with History who like discussing it. I hope it is OK ? :):):):)

I don't like disorderly, unruly people...always throwing tantrums, protesting, demanding, uprisings, being annoying on principle...not much to be proud of for me!:(

Maybe you don`t like them, but you are visibly fascinated, that is why you are wasting your time here. :):):):)

The same with me. Normally I don`t like Germans, with their crazy Ordnung muss sein, discipline and blind submission to any authority, whether democratic, Nazi or communist.

However, I am always fascinated how these decent disciplined Germans turned into murderous machines during the war and considered it normal. The dark side in the German soul is really fascinating.

I hope you don`t mind my frankness. :):):):)

You are disillusioned like Constantine today.

What is happening to you, guys? Do you really have to pass your depression onto the Forum? Can`t you go and do it somewhere else?
