Food / Can you do online food shopping in Poland? Supermarkets. [42]

Carrefour is much better but I prefer Leclerc.

I like Leclerc on Jerozolimskie too, for the same reason. Also, I find Carrefour in Arkadia excellent for fresh food - they actually had Jerusalem Artichokes (topinambours) the other day! Do you know if they have online ordering/delivery?

Travel / Which Poland's city is LGBT friendly? [43]

All the bigger cities (Warsaw, Krakow, Lodz, Poznan, Wroclaw, Katowice, Gdansk) are fine, but Warsaw is the best choice for LGBT travellers who want the bars/clubs etc. The others have a smaller commercial scene.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

wnd

wnd

wnd

So in fact more hysteria from a dodgy far-right source.

There was no catastrophic ruling on marriage last Friday. There instead was a ruling which is widely supported in your country and which will has been warmly welcomed by a lot of people here in Poland; just have a look at people's Facebook profile photos if you doubt that.

26 million Facebook likes so far for those coloured profiles. And the latest surveys show a clear majority of support for the Supreme Court's ruling that equality means exactly that.

Fortunately, in Poland, something like WND would have a small audience - far-right homophobic media sources are less popular than more enlightened ones

I will highlight the main point of my posts in case you missed it.

E Q U A L I T Y ! !

So we're talking about the same thing. Strange though that you think:

The LGBT rights now outweigh the majorities rights, this is not equality.

And that in some strange way there's a lack of:

Human right of the Christian crowd to their opinions.

- especially since religions are particularly forthright in expressing their opinions.

Why are you calling von Krafft-Ebing a pervert? I'm sure he would have simply loved to have met you, and to have written about you.

Nail. Head. Bang!

Law / Pakistani married to Polish Girl in Sweden [40]

It is time to stear away from streotyping and work together for a better world.

This is very true. Some people like to judge whole nationalities, cultures or religions by the worst examples of those groups.

Love / Birthday gift idea for my Polish boyfriend [6]

So, I would like to know the list of things I SHOULDN'T give him

Nothing is particularly offensive, but flowers would be a strange gift for a Man. Mens' perfume is OK.

For online stores, Amazon UK deliver to Poland.

At the moment the LGBT values are being forced onto the Christians

No they aren't. People of whatever religion are not forced to be in relationships with a member of the same sex, nor are they forced to marry a person they don't want to.

are labelled as Homophobes and bigots if they have an opposite viewpoint.

Nonsense. People can hold whatever views they want. Christians (or anyone else) however, cannot mistreat someone, discriminate against them or deny access to public facilities. This is the same for everyone.

Read back up the posts!

I did, and your 'straight pride' allusion is rather odd. Frankly a bit 'Daily Mail'. Aside from the fact that it's unlikely that anyone except a homophobe would organise a 'straight pride' (this actually happened in Poland and the organisers were indeed an anti-gay group), there are thousands of events around the world every year which are expressions of heterosexuality, from beauty pageants to May Queen festivals, to traditional African matchmaking fairs right through to the Dunmow Flitch and Moonie mass weddings. Thousands. If people don't want LGBT people to have the same fun, then yes, it's homophobic.

Life / UK's 1471 number recall - equivalent in Poland [6]

On mobiles some numbers are withheld - you will never find who is ringing you.

I never answer if it says 'number 'withheld'. As Terri says, there isn't a 1471 for landlines

Travel / Taxis at Poznan Airport - without being cheated (I don't speak Polish) [3]

It isn't far from the airport to the city centre (5 miles maybe to the city centre). There is an official taxi stand open 24 hours in the Terminal 3 arrivals - they are as far as I remember reputable. Poznan taxi drivers are generally OK, but as a rule in a Polish airport, if anyone whispers taxi to you, it's best not to use them.

Work / Authenticity of offer in Poland (admin / cashier vacancies in shopping malls) [10]

R u absolutely positive that poland is not issuing work permits for admin and cashier jobs?

The prospective employer has to apply for one and there has to be a very good reason for the state to grant one - it's usually for very specialised jobs. Remember, there are millions of unemployed people in the EU who already have an absolute right to live and work in Poland.

Plus, in two decades of living in Poland, I have never come across a sales cashier who does not speak Polish - in fact, most do not speak English.

Work / Authenticity of offer in Poland (admin / cashier vacancies in shopping malls) [10]

I highly doubt the authenticity of job offer

So do I.

Do anyone think it is possible for a non european to get a admin job in Shopping malls in poland ?

If they speak Polish well (80% of shopping mall customers in Poland do not speak any English) and already have a right to work, maybe through citizenship of Poland or another EU country (work permits are not given for jobs like that in Poland) then yes. Though there's high unemployment and therefore a lot of competition.

Try the UAE - there are more retail jobs there and you can do it as an English speaker.

And later a court ruling established that he had violated people's rights.

I remember that now. It was just huffing and puffing. They just don't realise how it harms their cause because although in Poland, especially in th small towns and villages there's still quite a degree of antipathy, displays like that just make people think. A clown's a clown and when PiSuarzy, JK-M, the Mlodziez Wszechpolska, Terlikowski etc start making tits of themselves, people are just put off by their behaviour.

while call Turkey as a secular country while t.

You need to be coherent:

I think that gem of advice is something that you might more profitably apply to yourself. You failed to appreciate that a. the tradition of using teargas on public gatherings is a very very common occurrence in Beyoglu (I've been caught up in it myself while shopping on Istiklal Caddesi) and that b. a very large part of the issue is that the religious people from hicksville chose a president who dislikes both laicity and the intellectual/social freedom that one finds in Istanbul.

If Poland is not so modern, at least is not at the stone age like Turkey.

Istanbul is far from 'stone age' and Poland is certainly modern - which is why civil rights are respected there. Nevertheless the urban/rural dichotomy does exist in PL. Poland's Worst President, when he was Mayor of Warsaw tried to ban the Parade there. There was still a gathering and he attracted condemnation from within Poland and from elsewhere.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Poland Respect LGBT rights because it is a democratic country, not one of those extremist theocracies that kill gays.

Just sad about what happened yesterday in Turkey... they are really becoming another Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Absolutely. The whole point of laicity. Something which is growing in Poland as religious observance declines. Turkey has laicity, but as in Poland, it's the difference between the big city and the hicks. The city always wins, and in Poland civil rights are protected (and this is only increasing). Just as many would be surprised about how liberal Turkey can be.

Life / Whats with going to sauna naked in Poland? [41]

@Jon: beach in .... Warsaw????

Yes, at Blota. Quite nice, but not great for the river - the currents too strong and the water not clean.

I have noticed in a lot of occasions, that Polish girls are shy to undress (even to try a garment on) in front of others

In the gents' loo, a lot of them can't go to the loo if there's anyone else in there. Psychological apparently.

In saunas (which tend not to attract the shy) I've never seen clothes though - just towels.

Life / Whats with going to sauna naked in Poland? [41]

Except for the beaches in Warsaw and Gdansk, I've only seen it once - a crazy person in the Rynek in Wroclaw. Usually too cold in Poland.

I have been to a few public saunas in Poland and everybody was on swimsuits and trunks

Not in my experience. Perhaps a little more covered up than Western Europe, but certainly no clothing. Very unhealthy to wear things in a sauna.

Law / Help with Postal Customs office in Poland. I need to get an item that is being withheld there. Rolex imitation [30]

How can they proof that this is a fake watch? Can I just pay a customs fee and receive it ?

Sending it by mail is a clue - people don't usually pop gold watches in the post. And as InPolska says, they know how to spot a fake.

The problem is if it has the words Rolex on the front or back, or is an exact or her exact deliberate copy of one of the Rolex range. After all, you could sell it on pretending it's the real thing.

News / Poland's President-Elect Duda leads in public trust - CBOS poll [185]

an alcoholic

A lot of politicians certainly are, all around the world and in Poland in every party including PiS. I hadn't heard it about the Dud though.

hey would only ever be satisfied if they managed to turn Poland into a European open-air museum where the Cathlolic Church would be made state religion and allowed as the only moral voice in any public debate...

That's unfortunately true and a lot of them indeed believe that the RCC is the only moral voice.

There's still a lot to come out about the Dud, I expect.
