Real Estate / Price of residential property in Warsaw. What percentage of Polish people are house owners here vs renters? [7]

@Czech: to give you an idea, I paid some 9,100 ZL/m2 in Stara Ochota (Warsaw) last year. In Praga (Warsaw), it must be around 5 or 6,000. Yes, a lot of Poles own their flats but don't compare with the situation in the West. Most flats owned here (in Poland) are 35-40m2 (often in lousy blocks) and were bought for a few coins at the very end of communism. Also, in poor countries, the % of flat ownership is usually higher than in richer countries where people are not so concerned about securing a roof over their head. I know some people in the west who make great money and don't want to bother buying flats, they prefer traveling around the world and their retirement pensions shall enable them to keep paying expensive rents.

In other words, don't compare apples and oranges!

PS: as to renting it, be aware that it's tricky in Poland since tenants cannot be kicked out....

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

@Pol: I don't know the guy but I am well aware that his newspaper is by very far the most read paper in Poland. Of course, I am talking about real newspapers not garbage such as Fakt or Super Express. How many readers for GW and for Nasz Dziennik, for instance? ;) You may not like GW and you are not forced to like it but you cannot deny that it is No. 1 paper in Poland.

"jeez"! The guy is neither a Muslim nor an immigrant so why for your obsession with Muslims and so forth? The guy complains about racism and intolerance in Poland.in any civilized society, everybody should be entitled to respect, which is not the case. In all western Europe, there are laws against racism, antisemitism, homophobia but in Poland the authorities let people be insulted, attacked because they are "different". Sorry, Poland, you are wrong to accept such unacceptable behaviors.

@Dolno: sorry, I was referring to only people on this thread and only the Britons and I have shown our intolerance towards racists. I know a lot of Americans agree with us but none of them was on the thread. Don't worry, I know you are a nice person:)

Trust me, I've known more gays that you would ever, including some Poles and yes, they know how people of your low kind call them. "Sausage" is ONE of the insults (which is of course completely stupid)

Calling a black "an ape" or a gay "a sausage" or throwing bananas to a black or making fun of a handicapped journalist itd... may look like "fun" to PF's racists but all this has NOTHING to do with "freedom" and has no place in any civilized society. A civilized society must protect all their citizens as well as visitors and must offer respect and dignity to ALL. No one is superior or inferior because of the color of their skin, the shape of their nose or the texture of their hair...

This morning on the tram, I was sitting just behind a nun and should I follow the rules of some of you racist guys, as an atheist, I should have insulted her or she should have insulted her. I personally know several gays in Poland who at least 1 or 2 times a week as insulted by homophobic comments. Is it NORMAL???? Maybe to you but for someone like me who have been raised in a democratic and civilized society, it is NOT. People are different but they have to live with each other in an intelligent manner and those not accepting the rules are to be punished. Fortunately, Western Europe has strong democratic values and has laws against racists. Since Poland and consorts want to belong to EU in order to get hundreds of billions of Euros (what other reason????), it would be common sense to expect Poland and consorts to respect Western European democratic values. Yes, racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, homophobia are punished by fines and even jail sentences and it is most fortunate because "racism is not an opinion, it's a crime".

Except for the Britons and I, everybody else is full of racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, homophobia and it is sickening. Keep writing your insults and your hatred, you contribute to the already very bad reputation Poland has. There are of course a lot of very nice and decent people in Poland but we should hear/read them instead of hearing and hearing only the scum. You are so miserable in your life, no education, no job or lousy job with no money and no future, living in a slum in a lousy place so you are most frustrated and as a result instead of working on your failure in order to improve your crappy life, you are mad at the whole world and need to find scapegoats and since you have NO balls, you prefer to bother minorities. You are the lowest of the very lowest. Racists are uneducated, stupid, ugly, frustrated and have no balls. Thank you to conttinue giving Poland a very bad reputation. What do you do for Poland? Nothing! You don't even live in Poland and don't pay tax to Poland. We foreigners contribute much more to Polish economy than you would ever.

@José: your story is very sad and I wish you to get the he///ll out of Poland as soon as you can. What kind of university are you attending? If a private school, forget it, your diploma won't be worth anything. I understand that you are in Wroclaw, if you happen to visit Warsaw, do give me a signal and I'll invite you for a meal. You've been suffering so much that I really feel sorry (but I am not surprised). Now, you know Poland and the mentality of MOST Poles all the more as you've got quite a "nice" sample in PF. Fortunately a lot of them don't live in Poland, and sometimes have never set a foot in Poland and of course you've met Levy, who is a special case himself, not living in Poland, never set a foot in W. Europe but he .... knows better than people from here/there. Well, you have read and you know... Please try to relax (I know not so easy) and stick to foreign people. You speak English, + I suppose French besides your native Arabic so you can meet a lot of nationalities and make great friends. Chin up! Prends soin de toi! :)

@Maf: to conclude: I refuse to talk with you because 1. you don't know anything about place (have NEVER lived there, don't speak the language) 2. you are so prejudiced 3. you are ashamed about saying where you are from. Are you from the country where "nig..ger hunting" used to be not long ago a "hobby" or from the one responsible for the death of over 50 million people around the world and if so, you have no lessons to teach others ;) . 5. no country is perfect but sorry, France is among the best ones (and recognized as such by the whole world, we saw it 2 weeks ago how the world population responded, including singing "La Marseillaise" everywhere).

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

Yes, poor Levy! To summarize, 1. get informed instead of usual ********* and 2. Poland depends so much upon also French money. How many French companies in Poland? How many billions of Euros paid through the EU? Same goes for Germany and UK who have spent so much money to help Poland so a minimum of respect would not be too much

OK, need to go (to French company) so good day with your Muslim friends! :)

PS: maybe the Jewish pop is not that numerous in Argentina but is kind of "elitist" so powerful ;)

@Maf: what is condemned is HATRED and it is so in all civilized countries (including as per EU's vision). Vomiting one's racism, antisemitism, xenophobia, homophobia and beating up people is NOT freedom. Instead of your continuous bashing, get informed. Remember French Revolution has given the world the declaration of human rights (+ the metric system...) and France is recognized by ALL countries as the country of the human rights....

Well, I don't talk to racists so bye!

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

@Levy: don't mix up Argentina and even Spain with Poland ;). 1. I suppose in Argentina a significant Muslim popupalion AMONG whom possible to have islamists 2. Spain does have a large Muslim population (Spanish territories in N. Africa and also Spain is only a few km away from N. Africa) and re Spain at the time they had huge problems, including terrorism, from ETA and as a result the - islamist - terrorists used the situation to bring confusion in Spain since they could use the ETA isssue, which the (right wing) government did since blaming ETA (half of my family comes from Spanish Basque country (Bilbao, Santander... so I know).

Since then how many attacks in Argentina or Spain??? ZERO. In France, the islamist attacks started in the mid 1980's (I have personally "lived" bomb attacks in the Paris metro and several bomb threats in Paris) and it is unfortunately most common. This is NOT new (and probably you were not born then ;)) and people have "learned" to live with that... How many bomb attacks or even threats in Poland since ... 1945??? Zero

Yes, islamists have bigger fish to deal with. Poland is a 2nd category country.

PS: Although Belgium is a small country in size, 1. there is an islamist nest with weapon arms smuggled from former Yugoslavia and 2. Brussels hosts most (+ Luxemburg and Strasbourg (in France since you don't know geography) EU offices.

PPS: islamist terrorists also are very publicity seekers and blowing up Paris, London or NY "looks better" than blowing up ... Warsaw or Kielce ;)

PS: Poor Levy: also in Argentina, a large Jewish population so like in France (3rd largest Jewish population after the US and Israel) radical Muslims and Jews "sometimes" continue their Middle-East war. How can we possibly compare with Poland?????"lol".

Life / Welcome to Poland ! (Stay away for your own sake) [239]

"Jeez"! I am not talking about these 2 ;) cases but since racism/intolerance seems cultural in Poland and other post communist countries (zillions of examples throughout the net ;)), such countries do NOT correspond to EU's ideas of open mind, tolerance, bringing people together.... Of course, physical attacks do NOT happen on a daily basis (Poland and similar countries are not the jungle) but when in some countries, people are given a "rough time" because they happen to be different, it is not to be accepted and should be strongly condemned by EU justice. Is it normal for instance that in such countries "Blacks" are called "apes"?

I do know that there are racists, antisemits, xenophobes, homophobes... in every country but in Poland and other post communist countries, such people correspond to the quasi whole populations and it is very bad.

Comments from PF's members do confirm mine ;).

Are there any SPECIFIC laws in Poland against racist, xenophobic, antismetic, homophobic comments and acts or a guy beating up a black or a gay is just treated like someone stealing a mere .... bottle of wodka? That IS the question. In France, for instance, laws (voted in the 1980's) are very severe in such cases and people guilty of such deeds are punished by up to 3 years in jail and 75,000 euro fines (it ought to calm down ;)) .... Last week, a French antisemitic "artist" was sentenced to 2 month jail sentence by a Belgian court for his comments made while in Belgium. I suppose it it like that in all western countries as should be.

@Bart: how about the Syrian guy beaten up and hospitalized as a result in Poznan a few weeks ago? Even is physical violence does not happen daily, there are insults, staring at..... Sorry, all this is not acceptable in any civilized society and Poland should be punished by EU

Life / Welcome to Poland ! (Stay away for your own sake) [239]

Poles hate people who are different and although Muslims have never been their cup of tea, it has started to be worse with the 9.11 attacks in NYC and recently with the refugees and the 11.13 Paris attacks, the sh@@@t has hit the fan. Since then, Poles have seen ALL Muslims as terrorists and very hard to make them understand the reality. Just after the Paris attacks, I was on the tram in Warsaw Centrum and 3 young Arabs got on, they got stared at, passengers moved away from them and then gave each other looks that said a lot. Of course it most unfortunate because the big majority of people are alright but most probably Muslims should stay away from Poland and a lot of western countries in order not to be given a "rough time"....

I am very sorry for the OP but his situation had to be expected especially with what has been going on. However, to be stared at, insulted, made fun of, physically attacked is not acceptable and canNOT be excused. However, Polish (or other) cops won't do anything, they also need concrete proof. The best thing to do for OP and other people suffering because they are "different" (in Poland it seems a "crime") is to get the h..ll out of here and either go home or find a friendlier and more tolerant country...

Work / What salary can be asked at IBM Poland? [67]

Sorry, but 5,500 even net with a wife, a kid and parents at home to support, no way! Besides, Katowice is not much more than a sh@@hole and I am not sure you'll be able to feel comfortable in Poland, as non whites and non catholics.

If in India, they offer you close to the double, why coming to Poland?

Once more, poor Levy, who lives with and works for terrorism sponsoring Saudis, doesn't know anything re Poland! For sure, 300 ZL are hard to earn but very easy to spend in Poland. And yes, Delph, who lives in Poland (contrary to you) is again right....

Life / Welcome to Poland ! (Stay away for your own sake) [239]

@tOtal: the guy is Arabic and Muslim so you cannot compare your (European = white and catholic) situation with his ;) (logical).

@Doug: yes, it is rude to stare at people. I remember when I was a kid to be told NOT to. Nevertheless, besides being rude, the way (a lof of) Poles stare at people because they happen to be different is most uncomfortable for the "stared at" one.... Poles need to start meeting different people and they'll stop staring...

@Mock: thanks to confirm José's message! It is most amazing to read so many xenophobic, racist, antisemitic, homophobic etc etc messages in PF and when someone writes in PF that he or she was a victim therefrom while in Poland, the whole racist, xenophobic, antisemitic homophobic etc etc mob shows up and denies the OP's comments.

Just reading PF confirm OP's message.

Life / Welcome to Poland ! (Stay away for your own sake) [239]

@José: Awfully sorry for you but what else did you expect? Were you not informed before coming? It beats me that people go to places they don't know anything about. Everybody knows that areas as of former East Germany eastwards are not open and most difficult for anyone looking and being "different". If you keep reading PF (among others), you'll realize it. The only PF members who are open are from .... Western Europe. Yes, as your POLISH teacher says, around 95% of Poles are racist and the remaining 5% don't give a sh..t (and of course won't make you feel welcome ). Of course, since the migrant issue, things have gotten even worse if you are or "look Arabic" as for most Poles (again just read PF ;)) believe that Arabs and Muslims are all ... terrorists ;). Don't bother with Levy, he does not live in Poland and knows nothing about Poland (and about other places, like you have already noticed), he only hates Muslims although he lives with and works for them ;)

Furthermore, as your Polish diplomas for studies I suppose in English won't be worth more than the cheapest toilet paper, why don't you consider moving to Western Europe where people are for the huge majority open and foreigner friendly? Having a depression doesn't make any sense so my only advice is to get ready to leave during Christmas break , go home and then manage to be accepted somewhere in western Europe.

I do understand your anger but do take care of yourself! I really feel sorry but it was to be expected.(such messages are rather common on the net).. (I live in Poland but am 100% European so white ..., etc etc so I don't have to go through the same craps as you do but I do understand how racism can be cruel (and stupid)

Also in Polish media, for instance:
tvp.info/22847537/polski-seryjny-morderca-grasowal-na-wyspach-byloby-zaskakujace-gdyby-nie-popelnil-tutaj-powaznych-przestepstw

@Roger: why can't you believe it? You know, Poles just like any other nationality are capable of nasty things ;). I remember the he..ll in France last year when a Polish migrant kidnapped, raped and killed a (French) 10 or 11-year-old girl and also the big mess when a Polish very young migrant (barely 18) killed some old Belgian lady in Belgium a few years ago (both (among others) murders widely covered by also Polish media).

They have opened borders and as a result all the scums of all sorts, all the terrorists can come and go as they plesae. "Thanks", EU! .....

Travel / Travel Agencies in Warsaw, Poland specializing in Maldives / Bali / Thailand vacations [9]

@Czech! Glad that you liked my info! Yes, it is very common to do so when in Pl. I know quite a few people who do it every time they travel far away. I have some friends just returning from Cuba. They travelled through a German agency (I don't know which one but never mind) and from/to Berlin, leaving their car at Berlin airport and zero problem.

Do compare offers from Germany and from Poland and you'll see more and cheaper offers from Germany! Futhermore, most often, there are no direct flights from Warsaw to far away places. From Poland, best bet is Berlin....

Have a nice weekend! :)

PS: even if need to spend 1 (2? if both to and from) night(s) in Berlin because of plane schedule, moneywise worth it to travel this way...
