Food / Any racuchy (raised pancake) fans? [5]

My grandmother always made them for Wigilia. I don't even remember if I liked them or not, but I remember the intense smell of hand pressed canola oil she would fry them in.

Life / What do you like about Poland? [100]

well, no hard feelings, but Americans don't like to learn new languages, they are lazy that way.... they don't like to get out of their state neither...

Let's not pull American guys into all that, they have done nothing wrong. Hubby is German :) He does some sort of 3D imaging. It's all Greek to me.

Stage 1] Everything is better in your new home country, the food tastes better, the orange juice is healthier, the sun is brighter and you're pretty excited about the future.

Boy, I was a case study on stage 1 some decade ago.

Then I think I went into a combination of stage 2 and 4. I don't think I've ever developed that many symptoms of stage 3. I do admire America despite my aversion to the general fakeness in the interpersonal contacts and despite all the Republicans. In fact I would have to start a new thread to express how many things I actually like about America. It's a great country.

If I can self-diagnose I'd have to say I've invented Stage 5. All the pro arguments are on the staying in the US side. But whenever I land in Warsaw I feel like the air is finally getting inside my lungs. Does that make sense to you? No? I understand. I'm wondering about it myself.

Because my husband doesn't want to. He does not speak Polish (and all methods of teaching it him have failed so far) and claims that the industry he is in is non existent in Poland.

My point is that the tone of your initial post was somewhat negative and yet wasn't that what you were trying to get away from?

No matter what you do a Polish brain will work the Polish way. If it's all too happy and pink we get suspicious :)

It was not my intention to criticize America and praise Poland in one breath. It was more of an argument, or point of reference.

Remember that all we see here are some posters voicing their opinion

I'm one of them, hence "obviously".

It was painted by Gustave Caillebotte. He is one of the later impressionists. The title is Paris;Rainy Day.

Kind like this painting? (one of my favorites)
I like the idea of rainy weather. I'm not doing well when I have to deal with it on every day basis.

Life / What do you like about Poland? [100]

Just a few topics from the top of the home page of PF.

Are Poles bigots and xenophobes?
I saw Polish nationalism today
Society, Culture Is it me,the Polish people have a strange attitude to cats and dogs

Plus if you read the threads you will find out that Polish people slam gays, they are narrow minded, Polish girls are materialistic ******, Poland is the worst place on earth to start a business, the customer service is horrible, etc. That's what I mean.

Obviously there are a lot of things people don't like about Polish people and Poland. But how about for once (especially on the birthday of RP) we focus on the things that are great about it.

I mainly miss my family and speaking Polish on everyday basis, but when I compare Poland to the US there are a few things that make Poland superior in my eyes:

1. People don't fake their feelings. Some can complain that Polish don't smile enough, but I prefer the genuine smiles over the American fake grins.

2. I like the grocery stores at every corner.

3. I like that Polish people actually shop in the corner stores and not only in the supermarkets.

4. I like that the Polish version of small talk is complaining, not some nonsense about weather and counting blessings.

And those the things I truly like about Poland.

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

I like it too. Though the movie has always left me longing to see how the marriage would work out. I've always thought that the peasant life would be to harsh for Justyna and she would end up resenting Janek.

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

I think nauczyciel has a lot of good points. My brother is running a business in Poland and he has the same kind of problems with people, no matter how much he pays. He ended up hiring Ukrainians, at least they are working better. But making a lot of promises and not showing up is the general problem with both nations.

nauczyciel's produce vendor was clearly dishonest. They both agreed to the price and quality of the goods. Defending the vendor is simply stupid. Polish people just are the happiest when they get to rip someone off, and I'm saying that also from my own experience with construction workers. First they agree to a price and how much and what they will do, then they realize, "that would actually be a fair deal, what's there for me?" and they cut corners.

I don't know about the Polish bureaucracy, but it must be outrageous given the fact that regular polish people come to the States and start and run successful businesses and they could never manage that in Poland. Though I think food industry has probably more restrictions than any other business.

BTW, what's the "October surprise"

Work / Do they have language cafes in Poland? [12]

Thank you for he info. I'm dreaming (for now) about coming back to Poland, but if I do it I would like to have my own business. So I thought about the café, but I see it might not work.

All I know about is teaching languages.

I was thinking about some sort of Starbucks kind of place with language meetings. Once, did the people who tried to open those places have just the language classes, or had they more ways of making money?

Is the market for language schools oversaturated? When I left in the 90ties there were plenty.

'summer open-air language meet ups' probably could not feed a family, though it's a great idea.

Work / Do they have language cafes in Poland? [12]

I've read about one in Hamburg, Germany. It's basically a place where you can walk in, practice language and socialize.

Life / Any treatment centres for homos in Poland? [455]

No one would probably ever stick his nose in other people bedrooms if it was always happening in the bedrooms.

Except for Tyler Clementi's roommate.

That's a great quote. As opposed to say, Soviet collectivism?

As opposed to nature.

And if I don't make sense, I'm straightening myself: I'm not worried about the future of the white race, and I think life a process is color blind. But if somebody is worried, then the individualism is to blame.

It's the honest approach and bow to you for admitting what's true for you. But then we should not cry when we are old that there are not enough workers to pay into the pension fund. I don't think individualism is that bad. It just does not make European societies sustainable.

Though I read you post again and now I'm not sure what you meant. So if I'm off the point please tell me I'm off.

I think that less arrogance and less demands from European women will mean more European babies. Simple.

Please do not put the blame on women. If anything it's the sick European individualism that's brings people to search for new experiences, self fulfillment and the market that caters to that. Why would man or woman go into the hassle of raising a family (and it's a hard thing, I know that) if they can be entertained.

Life / Any treatment centres for homos in Poland? [455]

In the rest of the world birthrates are actually dwindling,

That's what I'm getting at. I have many girlfriends in Germany who complain that it's hard for them to find a German boyfriend since so many of them are gay. So they go more exotic. Now, if "they' (whoever is running those centers) managed to "cure" gays, then the chance of white white marriage/relationship becomes much higher. That means more white babies.

Who cares if there are more heterosexual couples? The earth is overpopulated anyway.

However, the countries with the highest percentage of gays are the well developed, historically white countries. Those are also the countries with the lowest birth rates (except for the US maybe). It seems like somebody worries that there are not enough white babies being born???
