Polish people have a strange attitude to cats and dogs

I would guess that it has to do with cultural and traditional reasons.

Different countries, different attitudes.;-)

- That is because the cats and dogs in Poland are VEEERY different. Also they wear out too soon.

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

I don't see whole media campaigns about crap in our food.

Well, there are campaigns, a lot of them about obesity, fast food, etc.

You'd be amazed how much of that you actually inhale.

But it is never the same as direct inhalation of condensed substances in cigarette I guess.

Olaf:
Wrong actually :)

Doh! (Sarcasm?)

HAHAH:)))

Stop driving your car then. Stop using those products. (It's even in our drinking water!)

You know they are working on electric cars etc. and there are hybrid engines, it is developing. But for now we cannot simply do without transportation. But we can do without smoking in public, don't we? It is not a part of diet and it is just an addiction, hence I don't turn a blind eye on it.

If breathing was just as unhealthy then why are smokers in a cancer-risk group? Also I say there are measures taken as far as ecological solutions are concerned. Chimney filters etc., Gov't policies and so on. One thing at a time.

I don't think it has, since they're not doing anything about air pollution, water pollution and food-pollution. Cars stink. Factories stink. Construction sites stink. Sewers stink

I'm pretty sure most people wash their clothes after a night out, regardless of where they've been.

So you say we should resign from cars, transportation and industry? That's not serious. But not smoking in public is in my opinion. It has only advantages. And call me dirty but I don't wash my jeans after wearing them one time. But after going to a bar after work for a beer or coffee - I have to.

I'm thinking about transparent bikinis.

I've no idea what it has to do with environmentally-friendly attitude, but I fully agree on that! No bad thing can come out of this! :))

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

No I don't. Almost all the bars are smoking places and my point is that it doesn't have to be like that. Take e.g. Sweden as example (but there's more). No problem there, no whining, bartenders happy to work in healthier conditions etc.

I do choose to go to smokey bars because they are good places to go, but since people who smoke do not go out for a smoke (or there's no smoking room etc.) - there is a problem. And I don't know enough good non-smoking places.

yet we don't hear anyone about that, do we

- It depends where you put your ear;). I read about it enough.

But f*ck me for smoking, right?

- If you put it that way... ;)

It's all natural!

I guess people know it is not but who actually inhales deeply those chemicals deliberately, as in smoking?!

Right.

Wrong actually :)

what actually is healthy these days??

- Well, life is unhealthy, but smoking and poisoning and odouring other people is just too much.

And let's not start about what's in our meat, okay?

I've worked in meat processing industry and seen it inside out. I still eat meat, only now I choose it carefully. But what does that have to do with smoking - don't broaden the topic instead of narrowing it. That argumentation is lame.

but this smoking-ban really has nothing to do with health

- I think it has. Plus smoking stinks. We'd save a lot on water, electricity and detergents if we didn't have to wash clothes every time we come back from a smokey bar. Think environmentally-friendly;))!

Oh, fair enough, my mistake. For that maybe you'll find useful this website (don't think it has English version but you can use e.g. google website translation): praca.money.pl

Life / Best Pay as you go company in Poland? [10]

First of all, you should never pay for incoming - that's a standard (an exception being when you are using roaming feature abroad).

19 gr/min is good, but do you have that to everyone or just inside Orange?

When I wrote Play or Era I meant my recommendation for them - I am an Orange customer and Era too and the level of service in that two is poles apart (in favor of Era). Play has also very simple tarifs (while Orange deliberately mekas them complicated, don't know why).

What kind of features do you need except calling, texting and internet?

Real Estate / Can a registered Poland tenant be kicked out, and unregistered ? [12]

Without a written contract you cannot fight - just move to a better place and this time have a contract.

Can I ask why you think you need to be registered somewhere?

- ekhm... because of the 10 Apr 174 act that ssays so. It's still valid, but 'zameldowanie' is often not conducted.

Life / Has anyone in Poland that you know been affected by H1N1? (swine flu) [44]

Smoking, drinking beer, enjoying a slice of Pizza..

And that is exactly what can be done. Nothing else. Oh, wear a scarf maybe.

Besides this virus is far less dangerous than the common flu viruses. It's just being exploited by farmaceutical companies media. Remember vaccination campaign? Those vaccines were not guaranteed to be safe no to mention their effectiveness. Pure rubbish!

Treating fat fuckkers like you cost the NHS far more than treating smokers

- we should make a distinction between food and drink AND stimulants or other not necessary parts of diet like cigarettes.

You sure about those last two?

- and I already broke down the first ones... ;)

one half could smoke and the other couldn't

- actually everyone can smoke, the difference is that the ones who refrain are not forced to inhale. But I guess that is what you meant...

I know it's a bit old but if you haven't seen it, you've got to do it now. Bit of Polish advised.

Nobody ever killed anybody because they were driving after smoking a half pack of cigarettes.

- Oh no? What about morons who drive and smoke and put more attention to the latter and cause an accident? Cigarettes are nothing different than illegal substances we call drugs, only that they are legal now. And sometimes they're more harmless.

Nobody ever shoved a glass into anybody's face because they were feeling angry after smoking a half pack of cigarettes.

- you can do it without alcohol

Nobody ever beat their wife up because they were got home after smoking a half pack of cigarettes and she asked where they'd been.

- Don't limit yourself, now! I'm sure a lot people did, not only drunks beat thieir women!

Nobody ever got fired because they kept showing up to work after smoking a half pack of cigarettes.

- if it was during the time of work I'd fire that b@stard for not working.

Alcohol has a more destructive impact

I don't agree. What do you base this on? Human body produces small amounts of alcohol itself. Cigarettes are just marketing-created need. Maybe real tobacco like in cigars or in a pipe have something to do with taste but definitely not cigarettes (also I recently visited philip morris production plant, very interesting)...

Work / Residence Permit for an Australian in Poland. Applying for another one.. [41]

That's not how it works in Poland

- That's true. But also being just open and frank etc. does not erradicate your problems, Poland not being an exception here.
Acting in good faith is one thing, but they may as well percieve your lack of work permit as negligence. All in all, I advise to take Delphiandomine's advice. I don't think I encountered any flaws in his advice on formalities.

If anything, Poland is much tougher on non-EU immigrants than most EU countries.

- well, that's how EU works, doesn't it.

Which ICT you mean? The paper/tissue company (I guess they are not in Kielce but in Kostrzyn) or Grupa ICT - a temp. work company or else??

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

But when you are in a doctors waiting room or something like that there could be 5-10 people called John, but chances are there won't be as many people with the same surname.

- Jan Kowalski proszę!
or
- Zebediah Johnston please :)

No need to say the surname first and then the first name.

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

Are you saying that this is common in Ireland & Britain but not in Poland?

-no no no - that's common in Poland I guess, isn't it?

Changing the glass for a new beer without asking (maybe I've just been in some dodgy pubs).
- what's wrong with that?

Writing and referring to people surname before given name in offical situations, so "Kowalski Jan".

- Totally agree, that is terrible! First name shoulb be... first. Only exeption: alphabetical list of names, otherwise it is just incorrect.

What about covering all windows when it gets a bit darker, starting early in the evening. For my surprise I usually got answers like: I don't want people looking while I'm eating, sittin, watching tv, washing dishes, doing nothing.

Isn't it weird? Living on 2nd floor or higher what do I care? Sure I rather don't parade naked (rather) in the apartment but covering all the blinds etc makes you loos all the panorama of the city outside...

Law / No polish bank account, how to pay internet bill [16]

Hey, Businessmaninpl. IF you are a businessman in Pl then why don't you jave a Polish bank account? If you stay with a foreign one - still you can easily wire a transfer... What's the problem. Also, post office as written above IS a solution.
