News / Pole-basher Gross up to old tricks [284]

No matter what you say, what they did was disgusting, end of story.

Whose deeds are you talking about? It can't be that of the Poles since they could not commit the crime of theft since one can not take something that simply is not there, Germans were very efficient in their treatment of their victims and believe me that anything of value was already taken by them, but yes the act of digging out corpses is disgusting.

It is rather evident that I know far more than you do about what happened in and around those camps (not surprising given that, unlike you, I've read about them extensively and been to all of them repeatedly).

Well than you have one thing over me, I concede, I've been there only once with one notable exception; the one close to where I grew up but no where near as famous as the ones you have mentioned. You know nothing as to the extend of my knowledge about that period of history. You simply spread this sensationalism because it suits you without giving it a second thought or exercising any sort of common sense in your arguments that you present here.

At that moment, the whole area was plucked to pieces by the neighbouring population, who were searching for gold and valuables.

It's also a know fact that Germans confiscated all of their victims possession, they stripped them bare, they even extracted gold teeth from their victims and all of this is well documented, so what makes you think that people were digging for gold and other valuables let alone found anything of value to steal? That's not to say that it did not happen in some cases. Besides a Russian photo, how reliable is it? Haven't they also blamed the Germans for Katyn massacre?

That’s why the whole surface of the camp was covered with human bones, hair ashes from cremated corpses, dentures, pots and other objects."

Just what do you suppose was happening in those camps? Come on Harry even you can't be that naive.

Alternatively just spout off here without knowing a damn thing: that after all is what suits you best.

Like I said you don't see me denying it, however blindly taking the word of Gross as gospel and him alike is also not the way to go, sensationalism will only get you so far. You have admitted yourself he has an Axe to grind and his personal opinion is just that; as for his motivation, well we both know as to what it is.

It's not exactly something that is mentioned in the history section of a town's website.

It's also a hearsay and rumours not documented cases, anyway give me an overall estimate of participants in each case, point is it's a taboo to commit such an act so it did not happen on mass no matter how desperate the circumstances and temptation to do so would have been.

That isn't what witness statements of the time (and a lot later) say.

Perhaps, but do tell was it a common place assurance in Poland at the time? Did it happen all over Poland?

I don't make any excuses at all but in this thread it is all about stealing from the dead and I find it way more disgusting.

So is cannibalism yet things like that happen and there are plenty of examples in recent history of disgusting things people do in order to survive.

I'm not denying that those things did not take place in Poland but it is a taboo in Polish culture to do so. The individual cases that might have happen are certainly not on the mass scale that the American GI's committed, nor was the motivation for this act the same. One thing to throw stones and point fingers something you are good at but take a good look at yourself first before you do so.

Stealing things from a dead soldier

Who said anything about stealing from dead soldiers? Try stealing fro local population, museums and other public buildings, the things Germans looted from museums etc. It's not like they needed those things to survive they well well paid after all, just try to guess what their motivation might have been for that act. Certainly not an act of desperation, now is it?

Btw. it's illegal too.

You should start a campaign against all the American GI's that brought back all that loot from Europe with tham.

Love / I was raised in Poland. My Family hates my wife because she's American ... [69]

American my a**,

My family can't stand my wife because she's American and I married outside of race if you can call it that (both her parents wore from Poland but they died when she was young)

She's as Polish as one can be, period. There are other reasons for this said situation but one thing's for sure, it's certainly not race nor ethnicity.

Edit: Chciałeś powiedzieć że twoja żona jest ceprem (mit górala-nadczłowieka) to wszystko.

Genealogy / Looking for info on Zalecki [21]

What does the last name Zalecki mean?

I'm afraid you're being steered in wrong direction. It's a descriptive surname based on a nickname derived form (zalecieć) ''to arrive at the destination running".

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

Polish banners were proudly flying all over Berlin in 1945. Not sure about the Reichstag but there was one over Tiergarten rail-road station and over the Brandenburg Gate.

UK, Ireland / Do Poles in the UK pretend to be uppity because they have an inferiority complex? [60]

Do Poles pretend to be uppity because they have an inferiority complex?

No but it is my favourite way to get rid of unwanted pest trying to weasel his/her way into conversation when it's clearly rejected and when he/she can't get the hint.

Looks like some of you need a reality check, rejected by your own peers and your own kind but still in need to socialise you seek acceptance outside of your own people. So do tell, what makes you think that Poles or any other outside group of people for that matter would be willing to accept you when you clearly lack social grace and skills? Seems like you have personality problems that can't be overlooked by any group of people. That's what your parents failed to explain to you princess. Perhaps a bit harsh but at least it's to the point and No-Nonsense.

USA, Canada / Which countries are Americans usually traveling to? [114]

USA, Canada / Which countries are Americans usually traveling to? [114]

Believe me, I realize the difference between those two. So tell me, when someone says that Americans are uneducated, stupid, fat and ugly, are you calling it criticism or bashing?

Neither; they simply bring out same outrageous statistics as you to back up their statement as a response to your own provocation, I see it all the time on this forum and probably guilty of it myself. You have to take it with a grain of salt, but to you any opinion will automatically be filed under American bashing.

Merry Christmas.

USA, Canada / Which countries are Americans usually traveling to? [114]

When I compare those numbers with what I hear and see on PF I come to the conclusion that something ain't adding up here. Either the site is lying or some of you on PF are not representing the general opinion of the population of your country.

As far as PF goes you’re confusing criticism with anti-Americanism.
As for your statistics a simple manipulation of the way the question was phrased to arrive at what you want to hear about yourself. Was it "very favorable" or "somewhat favorable" or simply combination of the two? Besides I remember reading 2010 statistics stating that 94% of Kenyans had a Favorable opinion of US compared to only 85% of US citizens themselves. Go figure - is it their naive and idealistic view of the US they hold that skews their perception versus those that see and experience the reality first hand?

History / August Agbala - Nigerian soldier in Warsaw Uprising [23]

Getting back on topic.

The black man in the second photo, post #2 of this thread is 'Dżek', Polish citizen born in South Africa and a volunteer in Polish Army. For those who are interested in the subject another example of a black man in the Polish Army was Sam Sandi, a French soldier who as a prisoner in the German POW camp in Strzałkowo during WWI quite by chance ended up on Polish soil, then participated in The Greater Poland Uprising of 1918–1919 on Polish side of course and eventually went on to serve in Polish Soviet war wearing Polish uniform. There also was a China-man Czen-de-fu aka Józef Zdzisław who served as a volunteer in the same uprising eventually becoming a citizen of Poland in 1933.

Law / I am married to a Polish citizen. How can I get residency? [36]

is that what you want all americans to react when any polish persons want to come to usa, to treat you with that same disrespect?

Perhaps they all experienced it already. What goes around comes around.

i hope if you ever want to come to us that you dont encounter the visa personal with your same mindset, yet if so maybe you would realize how it feels.

Too late for that, ask anyone who ever went for the interview and experienced the so called welcoming attitude of the America for themselves. Denigrating a person and disrespecting him/her from the start is a matter of US policy not that of a personal choice of the officials involved, just ask around. Some of the questions that are asked of people of your own age, a grandma who wants nothing more than to visit her grand-kids and see for yourself why she will take them as a personal insult and attack on her morals, then and only then you might have a deeper understanding of the subject. The words engraved on the statue of liberty lost their meaning long time ago and haven’t been adhere to during you entire life, if they ever were that is. Nice piece of propaganda though. I’m not trying to attack you, what you wrote there makes a lot of sense, too bad the reality is way different to the ideals that we hold to be true but I feel that brute honesty is needed sometimes. Like it or not that’s the world we live in and I do apologize if I hurt you feelings by making this comment.

those that succumebd to the pressue of hordes of unwashed, pot-puffing hippy pacifists and the liberal media.

Typical thinking there, wrapping all that ails America in one neat little package and scapegoating as usual. At least you got half of it right, after achieving their aim those pot-puffing hippy pacifists and the liberal media returned to their rightful place and were content with puffing the magic dragon, it’s the lobby of the corporate greed that saw a market with over a billion potential customers that gave away the store and contributed to the rise of China the most. Starting with Ping pong diplomacy of the Nixon era and all subsequent governments who were granting China the most favored trade status for well over 30 years just to gain a foothold on that market, which btw were royally screwed in the process. I’m sorry but lack of negotiating skills on the part of your best and brightest CEO’s can’t be blamed on pot-puffing hippy pacifists.

Life / How do the Polish feel about air pollution in their cities? [35]

I find it hard to believe that living in coal smoke would not affect ones health.

It does but at a much slower pace. Can you imagine the effects of enduring a couple of subfreezing months can do to your health? let’s just say you wouldn’t have to worry about it ever again.

law (called the 'clean air act') which said; if you want to burn coal in the city, then it has to be 'smokeless' coal. Problem solved;

We already have smokeless restaurants, pubs, work place etc., courtesy of the well educated public on its harmful effects in the form of second hand smoke but breathing the diesel fumes is perfectly fine, living next to high power lines no problem, next to nuclear power plant....... without it our civilization would come to a sudden and screeching halt so they tell you the pollution caused by those facilities is at allowable levels, only issuing a smog alert when it gets so bad that even a blind man can see and smell the smog. Notice it's only an alert, it's still safe for you to venture outside and you gladly accept it.

Have you ever seen smog over any major city caused by the cigarette smoke? Yet one is acceptable while the other is an imminent health risk to the public at large. Face it, sh** only changes when it’s financially profitable for the major corporations and even then it’s at the expense of the taxpayer. While they change their infrastructure at no cost to them while at the same time they charge you a premium prices for their service. All it takes is a major anti this anti that campaign, introduction of new laws, and couple of interviews with the so called experts in the field for the public to be well informed on the issue, outraged and accept the burden of cost. Who’s better suited for that task then a semi educated moron? Carefully manipulated by those in whose interest it is to finally make the change, be it for good or bad but always without exception with a huge profitability factor for those involved through carefully planned release of steady stream of limited information to the public as it suits their interest.

Newsflash - most of our modern comfortable life style and technology has harmful effects on our health, the question is how long will it take? Even the latest advances in medical field and wonder drugs whose sole purpose is to relive one of your symptom in a relatively short period of time, while slowly causing harm to the rest of you in the long run is just a simple fact of life gladly accepted by you. Short term solution and comfort takes priority over the long term. Why dwell on it, there’s not a damn thing you can do about it, sooner or later we’re all worm food anyway. Enjoy while you can, every day that passes by gets you one step closer to your unenviable end.

News / US Military: The Army of Poland is crap. [124]

Perhaps you're making things up to suit your own agenda?

Agenda? LOL. Did you miss the word 'perhaps' in my statement? (Read speculation on my part). Been there, seen it, heard it, as to how common place is it I can’t say, one can’t be in all places at once but there always seem to be a hick in the crowd that tries to impress his buddies with his brilliant funny anecdotes.

Most of the stuff being said in the article is by Afghans themselves not by US commanders.

There’s only one reference to the Afghan in the article which is attributed to police Lieutenant Faiz Muhammad, the rest is the opinion of Times and anonymous US army personnel who are quoted quite liberally to suit Times own agenda. I for one would like to hear the opinion of top or any US brass in the area willing to put his name to those words. There are many problems with the way things are done there but those should be addressed honestly. A blank statement like this

The US military is reportedly highly critical of the competence and capabilities of Polish forces serving in Afghanistan

just rubs the people the wrong way especially when they rely on anonymous source to reach that conclusion. If there's a problem expose it, simple as that.

News / US Military: The Army of Poland is crap. [124]

but it's nice to have some moral back up though.

Not much chance of that either since the big quarrel seems to be about a top-down approach, obviously someone told them to shove it, the orders have to come down from the top not some punk ass second rate officer fresh from military academy looking for a medal who would get everyone killed in the process.

Perhaps they are tired of being treated like s*** by Americans all the time, or heard one too many Polack Jokes, f*** it - they finally realized how the game is played being screwed all the time, good for them.

But that would just be too simple; the truth is the Americans are losing their grip on Afghanistan and when there’s a time to pull out, they can’t afford it anymore - the money is running out quickly, they’ll save their face by blaming others, today it’s Poland’s turn God only knows whose turn it will be tomorrow.

USA, Canada / Canada Increasingly a Gateway for Undocumented Polish Immigrants Entering the U.S. [150]

Whoever gave his OK for her to interpret at this meeting is to be blamed for her miserable performance and if she was a little bit more realistic about her English skills, she wouldn't be there to begin with and we wouldn't have to argue over this mishap right now.

There’s nothing to argue about, what makes you think she is a bad interpreter? Did she make a blunder somewhere in her interpretation? How could you judge her skills or her knowledge? Do you know enough Polish to even make that call? I thought so, proving once again you talk for conversations sake alone. I’m not trying to insult you but there’s no easy way of saying it, there’s simply no substance to what you’re saying. How can you be taken seriously? Best you can hope for is to be taken as opinionated fool.

but still, your' interpreter sucks big time

What’s the matter? Recesion hit you so hard that you can’t afford your own interpreter?

he could have just as well said that he didn't understand her and this would be probably really taken as an insult

At least he would have been honest; something he’s obviously not comfortable with if that’s the case that is.

as it would point out the lack of ability to present a qualified interpreter at an important meeting like that.

At a press conference? Seriously listen to yourself, you’re the host!! Have you forgotten what it means to be a host?

Bull hockey my friend.

LOL Changing the subject is a typical behavior of a peasant who is simply lost when confronted with a hard question, one that has not spend enough time in right circles. Simple statement on his part like; 'we are not currently in the process of having this discussion nor do I see it being revisited in the near future' would do. Simple, concise and to the point.
