they just turn on the siren to commemorate the 10.04.2010

Feeding time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, remember when I was debating to trow the pigeon's eggs away? I cannot anymore since this morning while checking my balcony I noticed 2 yellow chicks freshly hatched. It has been only 3 weeks since they laid the eggs, even less!!!!!!!

4 more weeks till the young ones fly away, so I will have the balcony back by the mid of May - still OK in my books.

I am gonna check peek again, they are still somewhat wet.

they look like this

an update on the chicks.

They are doing well and are on the third day of life at the moment, so I gather they are still pretty fragile. The parents take turns on sitting and warming them up 24/7.

I will be away for a few days, so they will have the balcony to themselves.

Happy Easter!!!!!!!!!!!

Love / Polish girls' attitude towards different kinds of sex [88]

taking it up the back door is a choice made by a significant percentage of gay men. as for the duality of choice in your case, don't forget about the mouth. :)

lol

For now. :P

How long are you on probation? lol

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic ...

awesome;)

you can have the eggs and the nest and the parents, I know you have developed a soft spot for the whole family.

I was planning to do IT tonight, but I didn't have the courage. I am Miss procrastination. I have been planning to tell my friend off and I still have not, I have been planning to get rid of the pigeons' egg and I still haven't.

I am a big chicken.

snippets of my diary upon arrival, which I think I have not included here:

It has been over a month since I have been here , in Poland and I think I am getting used to the country, I am working, paying bills, simply getting a life.

The novelty has worn off by now and all those Polish ladies/women in high heels and boots don't seem so peculiar anymore.

The weather for the most part has been fairly warm and sunny. As I remember and keep hearing this is not a typical Polish weather, but I am more then happy about the kindness of nature, since the winter is getting close.

Szczecin has never had a really, nor a snowy winter, yet, once can feel that the days are getting shorter and it is getting colder. It seems that most Poles are already depressed about the approaching winter and I am falling into their footsteps.

... cannot help myself, I have passion for this song. Always have, always will.

Flaggy:

to answer your question: How would I know, it is not really my department, but.......I can investigate, anything for a friend;). Perhaps you can do a research yourself, then I would not be in an uncomfortable situations and I don't want to be slapped by a Polish woman;)

Travel / Pics of Warsaw by the Guardian's David Levene [107]

this is how I would photograph Warsaw or any other city for that matter. I am not interested in touristy places at all, but in the reality. Good job.

then you can try blowing those eggs like these guys

I cook mine for Easter and then paint them like this:

Btw it's an awesome Danish movie: Blinkende Lygter (Flickering Lights)
thanks:)

Noisy next door people.

Well, I have a piano player and I actually don't mind her since she is not that bad. Besides, she doesn't give up and practices for hours often taking breaks for weeks, which is a nice.

it doesn't matter now, one or two, does it?

it means that there might be a 3 rd one coming soon, which leads me to think that I won't be shopping for white eggs for Easter.

use them as mail carriers :)

well, with the way Poczta Polska works, I might consider that in the future.

update on pigeons

just checked the nest: the SECOND egg has arrived while I was away.

cholera jasna!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmmmmm....... I think I need to hook my gettoblaster and open the balcony doors.

Not in a mood for becoming a pigeon breeder and if I was thinking about career change - this is NOT what I was having in mind.

Put a webcam on it!!!!

now, that's an idea:)

Having lived in down town, you never would have smelled it. Here in Mississauga, I have smelled the spring. It is going to be a glorious weekend (maybe a passing shower this afternoon).

you are right, I keep forgetting about that, however I live in a 400 000 city at the moment. I am glad that the weather is springy in your neck of the woods:).

I live out in the wilds , and at my house the nesting birds are swifts

sounds great, I really don't have a problem with those pigeons, yet I want my balcony.

I will keep you updated on the progress.

When the birds left, the lice started to look for another host.

oh, this is bad news then. I was planning to use my balcony in the summer, but I have to wait now. I know I cannot chase them away at the moment. It is too late. I visited "pigeon" forums and it appears that it is a wide spread problem in Poland and I have to admit that people come with all kinds of advices - some of them are really funny. I know that the previous resident of my flat allowed the pigeons to breed, so they think it is a safe place.

I seem to fight with birds just about every spring. Recently, two sparrows in love discovered that my grill would be just perfect to bring their babies into the world...we have a game now, they bring grass, sprigs, feathers - and i throw them away...I feel bad for them but there are plenty of trees and garages around. My grill is not IT!

I hear yah, but the grill is not the place for them lol

I wanted to make sure it didn't involve huffing carbon monoxide or something.

ha ha, good one - all it means it that you will have fun:)

I'll probably be visiting Warszawę, Wrocław, Lubliń and Zakopane. Now, plan is coming together rather quickly. I need to be in Lubliń at the beginning of July. Ironically, it seems that I have good connections in all except my native city, Warsaw.

well, enjoy you visit and I am sure you will be able to find some connections in Warsaw too. Take lots of money, Poland is expensive and there will be so many things you would want to buy. There is some really interesting art btw, so keep an eye on that.

Life / $3,000-$4,000 a month - would we have enough money to live in Poland? [273]

post more when something interesting Happens !!!! Hope today is not so eventful !

welcome to Poland:).

What a great story. I know you must have been frustrated, but it will take about 6 months for you to settle in. I was going through the same thing even though I grew up in Poland, but the culture change, electricity change and all those things we take for granted suddenly become a big deal:). I moved in in September and by Christmas I had had enough. I finally had to tell myself that I need to lower my expectations and take accept things the way they are. This way I became much happier here:).

Looking forward to more stories and all the best:). Congratulations on the move - it is a big work:) and you should pat yourself on the shoulder for the job well done.

What if I promise to sit on that egg?

gotta talk to the pigeon parents first.

Think of me as your personal high-altitude brooding butler...

that can actually work since the parents often fly away and leave the egg unattended. Just need to get you an internet access on that balcony I think. Smoking is allowed;). I will even serve you a coffee is you sit properly lol ....bring the resume first lol

Update on the egg. Hm....it is mostly white with some brown speckles. I can not take a good look at it since I am afraid to scare the sitting party away. I started to be careful about making the noise in my apartment, so the future baby pigeon would get as much warmth as possible from their parents. I noticed that they take turns.

This egg is a very serious matter at the moment. I am glad it is getting warm outside - for the first time this year I was able to smell spring in the air - this is what is different about Poland in comparison to Canada - the air has a smell - at the moment it smells if coming spring.

no solution yet

Baby pigeon
well,I just like to announce that the pigeons have settled on my balcony nicely, to the point that at the moment I am looking at the pigeons' nest with an egg in in. The mother ( I presume) just sat on it to keep it warm.

I am guessing I will not be using the balcony for a while.

In a meantime, I think I will have to think about the name for the baby pigeon, who I am hoping going to be a nice bird.

The father just landed next to the mother, so I have to close the blinds, because I don't want to disturb them.

Goodbye boxes of flowers, goodbye the balcony table and chairs. Well, at lest I don't have to go shopping for them anymore. I guess I am not gonna charge them rent:)
