History / Friedrich Nietzsche - Polish or German ? [73]

I couldn't imagine Nietzsche in Polish

Me either. When I read the thread's title, I couldn't have fallen asleep for two nights in a row: I started to doubt whether it was day or night, whether I was on the Earth or some remote planet gathering strawberries and going nuts. But then your quote, Marek, brought me back. Thank you : )

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

I think Russians are behind the assassination of Polish president. Too many things went wrong and in most of them there was a Russian finger.

Kaczynski was a man of word and will. He wasn't the one to be pushed around or someone who will suck up to the neighbors betraying his own country's interest. Ukraine had a great ally and friend in Kaczynski. Poland and Ukraine lost a great man. RIP.

History / Poles in the Napoleonic era [224]

Pointless to argue. Yes, Napoleon was a great army-commander who had many spectacular victories, but as any one out there he made several crucial mistakes, which cost lives, his freedom,...At Waterloo, it was orders given to general Grouchy, which led to split in French army and 33,000 French soldiers were engaged at battle of Wavre with 17,000 Prussians instead of being at the side of Napoleon's major army. It ended in draw, but strategically held twice as big army away from Waterloo. So Napoleon's ass was kicked at Waterloo big time. Respect to those French, though, who died refusing to surrender.

News / Can Poland expect similar bomb attacks as in Moscow? [85]

shared

I knew you wouldn't answer. It is a dilemma for you, isn`t it? ;)
If you say Abkhasia and Southern Ossetia were invaded by Russia, which is the truth, you would have to go against your chauvinistic Russian friends even though this would support you on Kosovo issue. But when you stand against Georgia, you will nicely lick up to your Russian friends, but lose the case with Kosovo you so eagerly defend.

So, will it be silence again or you will fight your fear and utter your soul out, Crowie?

Poland, Ukraine and Russia has capacities to solve even Kosovo problem, to support Serbians

I am interested on your stance in regard to Abkhasia and Southern Ossetia, Crow? Would you mind to share?

Ukraine announced their stand side by side with Russia

Where did Ukraine do it? Our president just sent condolences in respect of victims who lost their lives. Russia blew its own people and Ukraine will never side with barbarians.

History / Was the Polish/ Lithuanian commonwealth a European power? [111]

Torq: Thank you for your honesty - you are a slanderer and a liar but you're not trying to hide it.
You are full of hatred and grudges but at least you're not making a secret out of it.

You are welcome. But where did I lie or slander? If one country did something on an almost constant basis, I see no reason to hide it. You said you'd never allied with Turks against Slavs and I proved you wrong. How is it a lie? You allied many times with Russians (which are half Turks, half Mongols) to destroy a Slavic nation aspiring to become free. Whom did I slander? And why is that necessity to call up Ukrainians working in Poland? What does it have to do with history? Does Harry mention 1 million of Poles working in Britain, when you ridicule yourself in parade demands? Of course, not.

Torq, don't pretend to be or don't feel offended. That's what I do. And this is what you taught me.

History / Was the Polish/ Lithuanian commonwealth a European power? [111]

but we have the honour today to say
that never has Poland allied itself to Turkey against Slavs.

;)

Cossack pirates, however, were raiding wealthy merchant port cities in the heart of the Ottoman Empire, which were just two days away by boat from the mouth of the Dnieper River. By 1615 and 1625, Cossacks had even managed to raze townships on the outskirts of Istanbul, forcing the Ottoman Sultan to flee his palace.[9] Consecutive treaties between the Ottoman Empire and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth called for both parties to keep the Cossacks and Tatars in check

But the thought of not sharing all the knowledge was terrible :)

It is not as horrible as realization that there was nothing to share except some plagirized from Ancient Greece works of a German astronomer. And that is terrible - to hide the absence of intelligence from sharing with others.

Language / What are some loanwords in the Polish language? [24]

However, Ukrainian is said to have features that are not present in either Polish or Russian.

Both Russian and Polish haven't evolved much as languages through the centuries from the old Slavic common dialect as compared to Ukrainian. Many words one might hear during a liturgy in the Orthodox church, one that keeps the Old Church Slavic language, resembles Russian a lot. And this church language haven't changed much in the last millenia! So it is not about who spoke first (since all spoke the same proto-language), the question is who evolved quicker. And I think z_darius you exactly addressed.

hultaj - rascal (Ukrainian);

I am Ukrainian and I have never heard this word ;), but it sounds Turkish. Though I don't deny a possibility of it belonging to one of many Ukrainian dialects.

Good example of Polish borrowed word is "urlop" from German "Urlaub".

History / Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Serbia- segmented. Who is next? Poland? [90]

There is one theory:
In the past they used to give people names after most conspicuous behaviour, appearance, penchant of a person. So he had a male ancestor who gave obviously the last part of his name ;) and an honorable grand-grand-granny who had everything working like a clock. Since neither of them wanted to lose their nickname (future name) in the offsprings, they compromised on what ended up in the Czech diplomat passport ;)

"Dienstbier"....what a cute name!

He was accepted to the job immediately after his name appeared among candidates for a diplomat position. No questions asked. If he was able to compromise in his last name so easily, he will manage international problems like a piece of cake.

we were so smart, civilized and beautiful.
The c*nts couldn't stand it.

You meant your smart, trimmed, pompous c*nts couldn't bear loneliness anymore? Beautiful they were ;) We were seduced. Can you blame us?!

We are Polish - the Antemurale of Christianity!

Does it mean "ant wall of Christianity"? ;)

Nec Hercules contra plures. We fell to the brutal force and numbers, kinda like Rome fell to barbarians.

Requies aeterna to a kingdom with such "wisdom", "civilization" and "beauty".
It was a matter of time for this abominable joke to be buried. Now the horizon is clear again.

Hope they all pay for their deeds and preferably, here. I don't trust too much in the devil's ability to make a good repayment.

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

I am a slave to truth

Nicely said, Aphrodisiac. The chains of truth are heavy and it keeps you from flying away in imaginatory world of wishes, pinning you down to a limited circle of reality :)

All work together for evil, much of their co-operation is because one can blackmail the other

This is the only way they can rip profits and convince us that this is done for the good cause, even in our own interests! I absolutely agree with you.
