Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Well because what else is he supposed to say 'I feel Czech and always will' he told you what you wanted to hear. I knew a guy from my old job an Iranian who told everyone he's American. He was here for 40 years! Became a citizen, when he spoke of Iran he said 'my old country Iran' (past tense). Anyway he saved his money some 1 million dollars, took it went back to Iran never to return again. People born in an another country will always feel that they are that nationality. Many born here to immigrant parents still feel they are, it's not uncommon at all. Someone like for instance actor and comedian Martin Lawrence will feel he's American being born in Germany, because both his parents were Americans (just stationed over there).

100% correct PolskiMoc. Same thing here in Philadelphia. I know many Irish Americans who are 2nd or 3rd generation here and are full Irish. Many people put aside their Americaness and tend to hang with people of their own ethnicity. It's the ones who are 3,4, 5 different things and are 5th -10th generation in AMerica who feel American.

Yeah..We know all about the Irish in America, never set food in the Emerald Isle but they are full blooded Irish...its so so so funny :)

Bíodh lá maith agat :D

Well if they came here and continued to have children with other people of Irish decent technically they are full Irish. They are very proud of their heritage, you may not see an American flag flying but you'll see and big flag of Ireland by their house.

Life / Number of foreigners in Poland? [28]

Bear in mind that many "foreigners" in Spain are actually Latin American people with clear roots in Spain.

Not really. I know a Mexican woman who has a niece playing women's basketball over there and they're not too friendly to her. The Latin Americans are mostly Mestizos, or fully Indian and are just part or have no Spanish blood in them. The Spaniards know this and disapprove of them who they see only as Spanish-speaking.

Life / Number of foreigners in Poland? [28]

I don't think anyone in Poland would mind a few hundred thousand foreigners in Poland, unless jobs were really scarce. For a larger European state like Poland the problems would begin' once it got up into the millions. I don't think anyone in their right mind would want to see happen to Poland what has happened to Spain.

History / Defying Germaniztion in 1901 Polish boy writes 'German girls are ugly' [128]

In the hundred some years after the rebellion of Września's children against Germanization in their schools, the Regional Museum in the city reached the amazing notebook kept by one of Września's boys.

"Our girls are most beautiful"

Little Bronek wasn't just interested in history. - The student describes his relationship with girls. "Our girls are the most beautiful in the world, they make love passionately and honestly. German women don't know how to make love or live, they are ugly and with clumsy bodies" - wrote in 1901, 14-year-old Bronislaw Klimas.- it's very interesting opinions - adds Mazurkiewicz.

The found issue is the first such memorial in the Museum about the strike coming from the participant's children. The facility - in addition to a reconstructed class of that time - are also on the court's striking students and parents catechisms student.

The unbreakable children of Wrzesnia

What caused the strikes was the German authorities decision of 4 March 1901 to introduce a regulation requiring the teaching of religion in German in classes of 12 - and 13-year-olds. The Catholic School of Folk Wrzesnia bought German catechisms for children, because they did not want their parents to buy. Most students refused to adopt them. Those who took catechisms, gave them back the next day. Nearly 40 students boycotted German catechisms. Protesters were detained in this way in school longer, and the most resistant whipped.

May 20, 1901, 14 students refused to learn German religious songs. Ordered flogging. The girls had been beaten on the hands and the boys on the buttocks. A few months later, in November 1901, 25 participants of the strike stood before a court in Gniezno . The court held that it was a rebellion and disturbance of public order. Participants of the strike were sentenced to two to two and a half months in prison. Nevertheless, the boycotts of German language in Wrzesnia lasted until 1904. Following the example of the children of Wrzesnia, strikes started in other schools, including students from nearby Miłosławia.

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

Did you all know that African-Americans descend from African immigrants who arrived in North America during the 16th century after a famine in Africa forced them to find more fertile lands? It's true.

I thought they were caught in the net and taken abroad..

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

15-25 looks to me like an estimate while, let's say 20 is a solid number, more credible in my eyes.

I didn't read anywhere that it's an official number. My 'Otyłość w Polsce i na Świecie - statystyka" is a statistic from a weight loss campaign from just 3 months ago. 'Większość znalezionych źródeł wskazuje' most found sources making it clear that it doesn't come from one official stat but several that's why they've said 15-25%. So if it's 20% in the middle like they say and your link also (except for the 25 figure) it's still far less in Poland.

It's your fault honey bunny because you told me not too long ago that since you can't be both, you choose to be Polish and not American, remember?

In a honesty I was having a bad day that day. I do feel both, BUT I do feel more Polish.

average American woman is 5'4" tall and weighs 140 po

165cm(5'4) and 65kg (143lbs.) for a grown woman. Which would mean it's the same as American.

However, 'USA: The average American woman's weight has increased 11 pounds (7%) in the 10 years between the gathering of statistics, while her height has remained about the same (an increase of 0.1 inch or 0.2% taller). Earlier I had reported a weight of 152 pounds (69 kg) and height 5' 3.7" (162 cm). Now, it's 163 pounds (74 kg) and 5' 3.8" (163 cm).'

Like I said Polish women are thinner.

how is yours more convincing than mine?

It's not enlarged like your source that gives the highest possible it could be, mine says 15-25 which means 15-25, not 25%.

you're constantly denying that your country is facing the same problems.

This is my country too sweetie. I'm saying it not the same problem because 20% and 30%+ is a major difference. And here it's getting worse fast, 3/4 of Americans are gonna be overweight by 2020 obesity will rise also. I'll give you an example my mom who is 51 at 5'7 weight 150lbs. my 26 yr. old sister at 5'7.5 weight 120 lbs. what is the average American woman's weight? Many do take care of themselves and it looks great but others look like total slobs.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

Mine is from a legit weight loss program and is showing that there is no exact number because all people havn't been weighted, it's an estimate. That's why it not saying 25% of Poles but anywhere form 15-25, somewhere around 19% being most likely. It is also a 2011 stat saying it's not 30.6 but 34% of AMericans who are obese as expected to rise.

I clearly said that we have more fat people here than any European country. Show me, where did I deny it?

You said that Europeans are on their way, as if any day now they'll be as heavy. When in fact 20% of obese Poles and 34% of Americans is a major difference.

yep and PB thought, Poles don't have any problems with obesity, right?
Again "co czwarty Polak i co piąta Polka są otyli", this is in Polish PB.

I know it's in Polish I'm fluent in it. Don't believe what you read from the first better source of information different sources have different stant. The one I provided isn't one sided it say 15-25% most likely 19%. Articles are exagetared to be interesting. Where does it say that your article has to be right no other one!??

Just because it favor your denial that this is by far the fattest country.

So what are we talking about? Overweight or obese?

Both. Guesswho thought only 30% of Americans are over weight since I provided the info that said 30% but that was just obese (meaning really overweight) over it's 2/3rd of Americans who are overweight.

did you read the Polish text too, I repeat again: "co czwarty Polak i co piąta Polka są otyli".

You are catching up my friend. PB, you know I like you and I respect your patriotism but please don't get yourself blinded by it.

Those are exaggerated stats. Obesity in Poland and the World 34% of Americans are obese, with 15%-25% for Poles, most likely 19% of Poles so almost 1/5 are obese.

Maybe you just didn't stay long enough in Europe to see it.

Uhh I was born there and used to live there. Been back to Poland 6 times and visited other countries as I've stated above. I also have family and friends in France and Ireland so I know. 2/3 Americans are overweight expecting to rise to 3/4 in the next 10 years. over 30% are obese UK is the only country coming close.

now compare other European nations:
Poland 11.4 percent
UK 23.0
Germany 12.9
Belgium 11.7
France 9.4
Italy 8.5

frances-obesity-crisis-al l-thos e-croissants-really-do-add-up/

France's obesity crisis: All those croissants really do add up, after all well that's the pasteries, sweets. But dinner wise the roasted or cooked meats with rice and veggies topped with a glass of wine is healthy.

The French secret of fat

We French eat four times as much butter and 60% more cheese than the average American, but we stay thin. How do we do it?

They also smoke and have a lot of sex.

You gotta have a balance :)

But to be serious, one problem in America is the type of food, the other is how much of it. The portions in American restaurants are unbelievable.

Yes and to stuff oneself like a pig. Eating smaller portions more often is the right way to go about it. Every 2-3 hours.

That's why I prefer as Wroclaw Boy put it French food with a glass of red wine. Smart people the French they don't even exercise and are thin through eating the right way.

Roasted Duck in wild mushroom sauce or Lamb chops with garlic and thyme, roast pike.

that is traditional French cuisine though

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

Ethnic, racial and cultural diversity are all good, but only if it's done in small doses. No country should be excpected to commit cultural suicide just to be nice to immigrants. But when it's done carefully, it enriches a country in every way

Very well said yehudi :)
