Life / Etiquette in a Store and Market Queues in Poland [146]

I've heard Poles say the exact same things

Your girlfriend, your students etc. :)

Oh dear, a lot of you get so offended

It's not I am offended, I am just laughing at you.

Details man! Details!

You guys may write a book about a blind girl and a Nordic sticks forest monster but a fact is that it's YOU who are lacking something If you find walking in Poland so problematic, lack of some social skills, incorrect perception of distance or whatever it is, it is your problem, we don't bump into each other much here, I believe one day you will also learn how to avoid it.

The guy then does the exact same thing and keeps coming at me only faster....

I think for everyone here it is clear that after that he dropped his sticks, chased you and finally jumped on your back, all beware of Nordic sticks grandpa...

1) American politeness requirements are far less stringent in this regard than in Poland (Czy ma pani bilety?).

Yes, that the way they like it and a person coming from another corner of the world trying to "improve" it would be simply silly.

Why are you so resistant to improve your society?

Poland has a serious problem with corruption, If you improve this situation in any way, I will be very grateful but your "improvements" are simply silly...

2) The woman was half my age

Unless she was a high school kid or you are in your 70's, it is still rather you, who should move out of her way.

Since you don't seem to have an open mind

You clearly have an open mind, on both sides.

Dude, I walk here every day... when I see women or much older people, I move out of their way, kids and much younger guys move out of mine, when I am passing by a similar age guy, we both just move slightly to the sides... it works fine in vast majority of cases and when occasionally I see a person in a hurry, looking desperately for something and not paying attention to people around, I just move out of the way (it might happen to anyone, you never know what's going on and trying to preach about politeness on some occasions might only make you look like an *******) once you adopt these few simple social rules (which are quite natural for majority of people living here) you will not have much problems with walking here anymore... and let me tell you something about bumping into women on the streets, stop doing that or one day some guy passing by will simply kick the living shyt out of you and a fact that you pay ZUS will rather not help you much, no you're not improving anything... If you still don't get it, I'm not sure how else could I help you, perhaps think about a Polish person walking around London or NY and "teaching" locals that they should refer to each other as Sir/Madam instead of usual "you", that would be similar "improvement".

Life / Etiquette in a Store and Market Queues in Poland [146]

When my parents first met my husband they commented to me that he never said please or thank you.

Are you kidding us ? The usage of these words in Polish is much different than in English, look there are differences between languages, is it so difficult to understand ? It's the same as commonly referring to people one doesn't know by "you" which is generally rude in Polish, some none native Polish speaking "expats" still do it when using Polish... really, I sometimes think you people are either having a laugh or are 13 years old pretending to be grown ups.

Of course that was your fault, do it regularly and it's a matter of time when your teeth are left on the sidewalk. It's really one of these times when I'm left speechless, are you people totally lacking space perception or social skills ? It's you, who have a problem, when I see a person, who don't know how to behave in a crowded place, moves to the left and right and slow down others, It's usually an "expat". Do you seriously need arrows and signs painted on the sidewalks to know how to move ?

Study / Vistula University in Poland. Any experience? Any student? [57]

i heard about collegium civitas.. lazarski..kominzski etc etc.. all these are also as same as vistula?

Koźmiński is regarded as the best of them but don't pay attention to nonsense some people are posting here, all of them are not bad schools, the thing is what a person selecting a school really expect... these days "diplomas" in general don't guarantee you anything unless from a few top global schools or in very rare speciality... a person who is for instance capital markets geek will find a good job even with some clown diploma, a person who has no practical skills and is interested in nothing useful will be struggling to find employment even with a diploma from a "good" school in hand.

Law / Jobs and Economic Status in Poland [64]

When did you last go to Poland?

lol...

Things in Krakow look pretty good, is all I can say.

When you come as a tourist.

Poland does not looking like a vibrant, growing, economy.

It sure doesn't.

But its getting better

Where ? Situation on the labour market is terrible, debt is growing rapidly, tax burden is growing, GDP growth is pretty much flat.

Unlike the rest of Europe Poland has not had a recession, so Poland is doing very good and will recover quickly due to the low levels of public and private debt.

Stop reading propaganda ********* and check first hand how things look like.

Study / Tell me about Collegium Civitas (Warsaw)! [34]

and ending up with working still in markets or some BPO companies after their good education

That's partially due to the crisis but partially also due to the oversupply of university graduates, even in the most developed countries majority of jobs are still for factory workers, sales clerks, builders, drivers, plumbers, waitress etc. Now majority of people want to have "office jobs" spend years in post-secondary education and then often comes disappointment.

Regarding Collegium Civitas, It's not a bad school (although not one of top ones either) but they generally offer history, international relations and other "social" studies... A lot of my friends chose to study sociology, history, international relations and so on, after that they were struggling to find any jobs and most ended up with jobs having nothing to do with their education, so I think you should pay more attention to what kind of course choose than to school itself, unless your dad is a diplomat or something, I wouldn't advice to study international relations, It makes sense to study oil & gas mining, telecommunication or IT (although in this case I would imagine there are plenty of school in India) but sociology or history not so much, there's simply not enough demand on the market.

Your number of 300+ CV's should be considered in that most of them are probably totally unqualified to do the job to start with.

"Expat", I am well aware of that... you know what really matters ? That 2 years ago it was +100 and 4 years ago +50.

Law / Jobs and Economic Status in Poland [64]

some just got jobs in companies just with the high school qualification diploma and some are still searching for jobs with their Phd degree

What is this ? i really dont understood that why companies dont hire the right person for the right job .

What's so strange ? People who are for example fluent in English and a native Spanish or Arabic or Russian speaker, they should find some call centre kind of jobs and a fact that they don't have university level education is irrelevant as they are not needed in most of these jobs. While someone who has Phd in some social science but not much of practical skills and experience is "overqualified" for junior positions and is lacking experience/skills for senior ones, especially If doesn't speak Polish and don't know local reality.

Oh dear Greggy.

edit, the difference between us is that I am getting +300 CVs per entry level job offer, you are a foreigner teaching English here. I will let others decide who's more in touch with reality.

Law / Jobs and Economic Status in Poland [64]

i just wanted to know if Poland is good place to live and do some decent job

Of course not, 5% of Poles left the country over the last decade.

what is the economic status in the present time inside the country

It's very bad, largely due to general crisis in Europe, however I see not much chance for really rapid improvement even when the crisis is over.

I posted this thread because i saw people from different parts and continents are moving to Europe and specially in Poland but why ?

Middlemen, who get the fees from private schools for each student they find tell them that nonsense. There are some good schools in Poland and in some cases it could make sense for foreigners to study here but in vast majority of cases these are not schools, which are actively searching for foreign students, it's rather the other way around. If any guy in India or elsewhere tell people that Poland is a land of milk and honey and once they get a diploma of some 3rd rate private Polish school, they will make a fantastic career, just kick the cheater in his stinking ass.

News / PO-PiS again neck and neck [248]

Sorry Polonius but EVERY Pole with voting rights has the right to decide how Poland should look like- one side or the other.

That's very true but voters should also be responsible for the decisions of gov they helped to elect. PO voters should pay higher VAT and interests from huge debts the clowns made. You brought this cancer on all of us.

Simple idea of IV RP is overthrowing III RP with everything it represents- good and bad. Such behaviour is simply stupid.

Work / Dental Student moving with wife to Poland, how difficult will it be for her (IT degree) to find employment? [10]

She will be a recent graduate with a 4 year IT degree and I am wondering how difficult will it be for her to find employment in Poland? Is it honestly possible or is it slim to none?

It is possible, actually It's one of few areas where non-Polish speaking foreigners can find some employment as a large part of Polish IT sector are outsourcing centres of foreign companies, a lot of clients of Polish companies are foreign too... but If she is a non-EU citizen and just an average IT graduate, not some super nerd, It will probably take some time as some companies will not bother with paper work in case of junior positions... but If she is a native English speaker, probably some help desk jobs should be easier to find and then after some time she may start looking for something better. Kraków and Wrocław are full of IT companies working for foreign clients.
