Life / How could things have gone so wrong (Poland church dress code) [195]

Come on, you were only frowned at and gossiped about by a few old ladies. They didn`t kick you out of the church, did they? Were you beaten? Thrown mud at? Stones?

So, what is the deal? When in a Muslim country, are you going to refuse to take off your shoes upon entering the mosque? Or you will try a little provocation?

I am sure you wouldn`t dare. :):):)

Ok I got so excited I didnt use the apprpriate grammar. Im sure u speak perfect Polish though......

I didn`t attempt to correct you, by no means. I just wanted to find out if you still consider yourself the son of God or if it was a temporary revelation on that Easter Sunday that has already passed.

I used to speak and write perfect English and Polish, but they deteriorated significantly with age. I am really scared how much damage the aging process has done to my mental faculties.

Ok I confess, I got up in the middle of the serivce, professed I am the son of God,

BTW, shouldn`t you write I was the son of God ? Using Present Simple tense in past Reported Speech suggests it is still valid and true..... That`s what they taught me long ago....

Shows how little you know.

Yes, I know I know nothing. :):)

Read Hebrews and Thesallonians I&II, it will enlighten you

No, thanks, it is enough to read you. :):):)

I can see ur one of those who just go through the motions of Church.

Not so much. :):):) I just keep other people in mind and don`t belch or fart in public. :):):)

I had an excuse, I had come straight from the beach.

That is still disrespect. You went to the beach first, instead of going to church. On Easter Sunday?

Ok I confess, I got up in the middle of the serivce, professed I am the son of God, p****d over everyones easter baskets then took a hot steaming one on the Church steps.

Oh, I see. Bad boy. No wonder old ladies were shocked. :):):):)

Its funny how the woman in the church I was talking about was the husband of a man from Sopot who is famous for taking bribes, he was sat right next to her.

Do you mean the mayor of Sopot?

What about respecting my decision to attend Church dressed this way???

An eternal dillema: whose rights are more important: the minority`s or majority`s?

Ur welcome to attend my church too where one guy came to a Tuesday service straight after his day job as a painter decorator in his paint covered overalls.

Tuesday isn`t the same as Sunday.

They all knew I was foreign, cos I didnt do any of the rediculous cross signs, and the up and down like a yo yo part. I didnt say their prayers either. I think it was the fact that I didnt join in coupled with the fact that I was wearing the shorts. I silently prayed to myelf though, even if it was to ask God that the priest's ogloszenie part didnt drag on too long :-)

I see. What else are you hiding before us? What about this tatoo on your leg? Is it this:?

Polish man leg tattoo

or this?

Tattoo example from Poland

Cos she was the wife of one of the more famous paritioners that go to this certain Church in Sopot. Everyonw shook her hand after the service while everyone commented to me, so much so that my wife had to tell them to be men and say it to my face

It all sounds more and more puzzling. Why have you been keeping it secret so far? :):):)

Are you going to tell us what kind of a tatoo you are wearing on your leg? Isn`t it an image of a nude rabbit?

It doesn't have to do anything with the faith.

But with social rules - yes.

Before some of you dimwits accuse me comparing myself to Christ, read the above post carefully 2 or 3 time if you need to.

:):):) Cool off, man. Nobody is accusing you of that.

All the while, 2 pews across from me was sat a woman who I can only describe as being dressed like a S**t, as the weather dictated. She, as can be predicted, didnt receive the same reception as myself.

they should have been put off by her, but in fact they werent, they were put off by me. Maybe my legs are sexier than I originally thought

What do you know about the way the girl had been greeted if she had entered the church before you?

Pawian, I found it. It is called in Polish "msza katechumenow" and is the first part of the mass.

That is why I didn`t know. I have never attended this special mass service. The Wiki link says it happened in church in its beginnings....

Yes, but there is a part in the mass when it is aked all those not Christians to leave the Church proper. I think this is very outmoded and incorrect and also in contradiction with Christ's philosophy.

????? I never heard of it.

I know and I would never offend others or encroach on anyones rites, but my point is that thye were more concerned with what I was wearing than the message of Easter.

First they saw you entering the church. If you weren`t late, it was exactly the beginning of the service or even before it. There wasn`t any message delivered yet.

DO you read ur BIble Pawian???

No, I already know it by heart. :):)

What is ur opinion of women wearing mini-skirts to Church?

More critical as of your case. :):):)

Welsh, if you come to my church dressed in shorts, sandals and tank top, I won`t say a word. I don`t care.
But I know there are still people who care how others look. It refers not only to church but many other places and institutions. And as long as they care, you should conform to the rules, otherwise you will be given a cold shoulder which will again make you come to the forum and cry how unjustly you were treated.

I get sick of the rules of the church eg.

So be a man and don`t allow others to drag you to church.

I cannot take mass because I am not a 'certified' Catholic.

To the best of my knowledge, you don`t show any certificates before taking communion/mass.

He invited all who need his grace and mercy to partake in Holy communion until the day he shall return and take his faithful with him.

So, what is the problem?

Life / How could things have gone so wrong (Poland church dress code) [195]

it's not about pretty-ugly or cheap-expensive, but about what's appropriate and what's not...

People are social creatures by nature. We live in societies. We are expected to conform to certain rules and manners. If not, the society turns on us because we break the rule. Today you wear shorts to church, tomorrow you might kill someone. Don`t you understand that every rule, even the silliest one, has been invented to eliminate maniacs who are not able to live in a society?

You shouldn`t wear shorts to church just like you shouldn`t belch at the table, pick up your nose, smell your armpits in public etc etc. Why? Because you make other people feel uneasy. As long as you live in a society, you mustn`t forget about others.

I was dragged along to Church this Easter

It seems you had prepared a sort of provocation with those shorts of yours, to silently protest against being dragged to church against your will.

Couldn`t you behave like a man and just say: no, I won`t go because it is against my creed ?

Where will you find operational Su` s?

I will take Wilno tomorrow with a bunch of volunteers.

And when you take it, what are you going to do with it? I mean - your first steps in the city within 10 days, let`s say.

Language / Need Advice On Polish-English language barrier (my Polish boyfriend and his family) [59]

Esperanto might help.
Esperanto is the most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language. Its name derives from Doktoro Esperanto (Esperanto translates as - one who hopes), the pseudonym under which L. L. Zamenhof published the first book detailing Esperanto, the Unua Libro, in 1887. Zamenhof's goal was to create an easy-to-learn and politically neutral language that would foster peace and international understanding between people with different regional and/or national languages.
