Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

It is quite easy. You need to touch the sensitive spot and every male creature will show you his treasure:

I just remembered there is a film with that scene:
youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=pXgreUuTYJM

It is neither in the film or photos but a woman with American accent started rebuking the little girls` mother for allowing them to touch the peacock and give him a bit of pulling on the feathers. Actually, she was oversensitive because the bird wasn`t harmed in any way, it visibly liked the attention it gained from people.

Travel / Quiet places to visit outside of Krakow [15]

A bus from Krakow will take you to Tyniec.

Another place to visit is Ojców.

Very good propositions. However, they are a bit touristy while she desires something off the beaten track. But, indeed, it might be hard to find sth less touristy but still attractive.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

I worked in a public school back in the day when I didn't speak Polish at all. It was a college prep school, located in a small town. I can provide the contact info.

College prep school ? I can roughly guess what it is, but what is its name in Polish?

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

I think this depends very much on the attitude of the school director. I know a couple of schools here that have native teachers working there without speaking Polish to any decent level.

Wow! That is amazing. Can you tell us the types/names/addresss of schools? :):):)

I know nothing about Wawrzyszew, but I know this parking is being built next to Warszawa-Krakow road in the outskirts of the city.

It's possible to earn a decent amount as an experienced public school teacher - but Poland will simply ignore overseas experience, even if you have climbed the ladder there - you'll start at the bottom.

A public school teacher of English must speak Polish, first of all.

News / Grafitti plague in Warsaw [84]

Probably made for some graffiti festival but who knows, maybe...

Grafitti on a school building for a festival? :):):)

I like graffitis which shows something more than letters.

A picture?

But it's maybe 5% of the graffitis in general. Most are simple scribbles or ugly black and white bulky tags.

Exactly.

Work / Survey about English Teachers working in Poland [8]

without even admitting and apologizing for your mistake.
Very greenish ...

An English teacher would say - unprofessional. :):)

My English teacher used to say to us: Your ignorance is appaling.

I am an English teacher based in London.

Are you sure? :):):)

Ok guys, the link does work and is no monkey business. I've already collected a number of responses on another forum.

Yes, it does and I have just completed the survey. One remark for the future use: in point 4, with the question How often do you use Polish in class? only 3 answers are provided: often, rarely, never. It definitely needs two more.

News / Grafitti plague in Warsaw [84]

Each time I go home to my native Antwerp I really see the contrast. Warsaw is literally sprayed over.

Yes, it is a big problem. Practically, only buildings in well lit streets and under camera surveillance are safe.

I can undertsand they do it in such areas:

But why here?:

Food / Polish food at home or out? [57]

By and large, the same food can be rpepared at home for a fraction of the cost of the catetring industry.

We had the First Holy communion at home recently. The cost of food for the whole day for 25 people totalled about 300 zlotys, while the catering site would charge 100 zlotys per person, that is 2500.

It is natural we prefered to do it at home and save a lot, especially that we were helped by the family.

from a green grocers or farmer's market (very fresh, usually local, only in season, fruits and veg).

Yes, that is the problem that the green stuff is seasonal:

However, off-season you can grow your own greenery and it is even healthier than farmers` produce:

(Veg is really cheap from a green grocers or farmer's market, it's the meat that costs).

You can also have cheap meat, as cheap as dirt if you know how to find and catch it.

Polish Peasant dish
Polish Aboriginal dish
Polish Indian dish

Only Polish food, nothing imported!

News / Is it right for Polish citizens/Poles not living in PL to vote? [11]

Polish citizenship = right to vote. Simple.

Not so simple.
If you leave Poland temporarily, e..g, are gojng to come back after a year or two, you should keep the right to vote abroad.

If you decide to settle in a foreign country for good, then the right to vote is an unjustified privilege, unfair to those who stay in Poland.
