Love / Polish girls like fairy tales [25]

It's all tied in with the romanticism of the Poles. They need an escape from the humdrum existence of the 8-16 or 7-15. I mean, why would you not want a retreat from getting documents stamped and waiting in long queues?

Law / Advice please - Getting monies from a Poland employer who refuses to pay [41]

Trust me, it doesn't make much of a difference to most employers here. They are not going to cough up and what may seem obvious to us is by no means obvious to Polish authorities. He could try the small claims procedure as Poland has sth akin to that. However, you probably spend as much raising the action as you'll get back. Rather ironically, it doesn't pay ;)

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

Jola, it's not an anti-Polish thread at all. It's asking the question and not even a leading one like 'Polish people are....true?'. The truth is, Poland exported many undesirables to the UK. Contained within their ranks are racist bigots that can't handle the MC nature of GB. They need to learn to accept their guest status and keep their mouths closed.

Absolutely right, Harry! This has been my experience to date. Bad publicity does sting them, though. It just depends what channels you use and how you go about it. After all, they spend (and waste) so much money on advertising with those leafets/flyers of theirs.

History / Poland in the eyes of London - before WWII. [60]

It was too late by 1938. Hitler was basically ready by 1936 but the extra time didn't hurt. Rumour has it that Poland knew of some of his plans. Britain certainly had key documents.

Travel / Why do people say that Poland is so unsafe? [60]

Poland is so much safer than the UK. Some people here only look threatening but they tend not to harm you for no reason. Not like chavs or neds back home (though I never had any problems personally).

M-G, that's because you are used to different groups. I feel safe because there aren't too many meatheads here who will have a go at you for speaking English. Gliwice is a blend of students and old folks generally.

Poland is 0.07% Muslim only. If that shot up to 7%, you could expect to see some racial tension in areas like Wilanów. The whole petitioning for the extra mosque debacle showed you the resistance in the people.

Poland doesn't even know mixing like Scotland does. Say 'fenian' to a Glasgow Celtic supporter and they will clobber you. It is a derogative reference to them being Catholic. Poland's 'other' religions are so small that they need a microscope to see the light of day.

Why a-typical? I thought it was very typical. I feel very safe due to the lack of tension. My being white helps. Only the old hags draw attention to the fact that I'm different though I could experience that in many countries.

UK, Ireland / Oxford Polish bride 'heartbroken' over arrest - accusations of sham marriage [126]

Good point, southern. Entrenching tolerant attitudes takes time and Britain has now evolved into a largely tolerant society.

Why would a Polish bride be heartbroken when she clearly should have known what constitutes a good marriage? The abundance of procedural improprieties should have given her a clear sign. She is from a procedural country so she really should have been on top of it.

Some areas are and some aren't. However, I feel that it is safer than many countries due to the lack of racial tension and religious hostility. As a white guy, I feel safe here.

History / Israeli wants to wipe Poland off the map! [198]

Israel is a permanent thorn in the side for peace efforts, as is Hamas. Hamas don't even recognise Israel so there can be no peace as it is a prerequisite of Likud's that they do.

They had better tone down the rhetoric as they can be stripped of their nukes. The EU has 2 nuclear powers anyway.

History / Israeli wants to wipe Poland off the map! [198]

Which is the way it should be, I agree. They are not really Europeans, more Eurasians like most of Russia.

They have Israel by the kahunas as they supply them with one of the most important provisions of all in water.

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

It would appear that the margin is similar or even more according to media polls. I think it was onet.pl that ran the story today. I think they are just creating hope for JK fans because BK has this in the bag.

History / Israeli wants to wipe Poland off the map! [198]

You'd have to ask the IDF that, MC! I don't go around beating defenceless women and children for protesting about land theft. So, how did Pizano do? ;)

History / Israeli wants to wipe Poland off the map! [198]

That's true but they don't seem to realise the minefield they are sitting on. They have eased the blockade on Gaza so they are not that tough after all.

News / Komorowski for complex-ridden Poles? [94]

The reason was the he drank copious amounts of vodka, answered the occasional phone call to say ok, and then got back to his Slavic business of mixing different vodkas.
