Life / Talking over people in conversations; is it a Polish trait? [41]

Talking over people in conversations; is it a Polish trait?

is this normal!

yes.. most of polish folks i know can carry on a couple of different conversations at the same time too.. it's highly puzzling to my american friends. lol

That is definitely not a polish trait.

oh yes it is.. americans don't do that..

on the other hand... ;)
how do you deal with someone that just loves to hear himself talk and does not know how to stop? You know the point withing first two sentences, but they just don't know how to come to a timely conclusion?

just take a nap.. lol.. i used to do that with to a guy i used to travel in a truck a bunch.. he'd never shut up so, i'd just take a nap and slip in a "oh yeah" or what not here and there.. lol

Travel / what are the average fares to Poland from USA? [10]

Are there any tricks to getting cheap flights? Or have the prices just gone up?

i found a round trip: NY - PL for $628 USD (incl. taxes/fares).

that's about the average fare..

News / 20 YEARS ON A BETTER POLAND -- ALSO BETTER POLES? [21]

lack of censorship

is that right?? hmmm

PM Tadeusz Mazowiecki was asked "Have we (Poles) improved?" , he said he wasn't that sure. What do you think?

i dunno either.. poles like to get at each other's throats like none other.. it definitely isn't helpful...

The concensus it that people are more materialistic and selfish now than during the communist times.

maybe but poles have always had a greedy streak in them and that is another thing that is not helpful in PL moving forward to its full potential.

A better Pole or human would be kinder, more honest, decent, generous, altruistic, modest, humble, hospitable, helpful, friendly and respectful and less envious, greedy, vindictive, mean, vicious, haughty, boastful, selfish, disrespectful and petty.

then i don't think that polish peeps got better..

News / Poland still developing strong economy despite red tape [8]

Agree, disagree, don't care?

i think the bureaucracy definitely doesn't help but i think the PL economy has only staid in the black because of the influx of EU funds for upgrades to the infrastructure.. i think that is what is saving PL's butt right now..

If the Polish population was as leveraged up on consumer debt as the average UK credit card jockey, then the $h!t would have hit the fan.

There's a lot to be said for NOT integrating fully into global capital markets at times like this.

definitely helps.. part of this "help" is the tightness of the credit market in PL..

Sometimes time-honoured common sense such as not living beyond one's means (or high on the hog - in the American vernacular) is a better solution.

of course.. i don't beleive in owing up to the eyeballs.. that's just crazy.. it alwyas astounds me how deep most of americans are stuck.. it's incredible to me to see 10k or more in CC debt.. insane..

consolidate all the BS paperwork that Poland drowns in every day, and watch the unemployment rate double.

you probably are spot on with this.. sad..

Travel / Narrow roads in Poland :-) [7]

the sound of open Harley pipes coming back from the trees....i love it....

this has to be one of the top reasons why i hate these bikes.. nasty.. and that's beside them being overpriced crap..

You can,t beat the ride through the forest roads

i agree but i don't care that much for pavement.. now, give me sand or just dirt and i'm in heaven.. :)

What are you talking about? I haven't used the word in ages. This quote probably is from before the problems you had with the Dutch version of the Polish capital's name.

What's wrong with "Warschau"?

do i have to come through the screen and kick your kraut butt?? ;) :D

USA, Canada / Better life in USA or Canada? - expats opinions and your comparison [143]

I would give anything to have Bush back.

that's just stupid.. he's drove this great country into the ground and made a laughing stock of the world and you want him back? wow.. the community organiser is better then what we had the last 8 years, that is for sure.. and he is doing ok although i am rather pissed that he didn't immediately reverse some of the encroachments on our freedoms that his predecessor enacted..

As a general rule, Canadians are more laid back, friendlier.

I definitely agree as well as your statement about smiling and eye contact.. one other thing i forgot to mention is that all of my famioly and everyone i know in Canada have summer cottages either in the woods up north or on lakes.. in USA i knly know a few people that have such "luxury".. also all of my family up there have swimming pools and that is not something most americans have..so it may be expensive and the taxes may be high in Canada but it seems life may be easier there then USA.

News / WHY DOES POLAND BUY GAS FROM RUSSIA? [105]

What, you don't think that signing a long term deal to secure future energy supplies is sensible? You prefer the instability of not knowing if your old people will be warm every year?

with the damned russians it's always going to be a crap shoot.. they'll pull some other shyt in a few years.. don't trust them..

The sane, sensible thing to do is to sign a 20 year agreement now, and use those 20 years to build alternative sources of fuel. That way, there's no nasty shocks and everyone is happy.

yup but russia is not stable enough to trust them on a long term contract..
