News / Polish Independence Day March in Warsaw. Is it going to be the biggest march yet? [1530]

Again, an imperial project absorbing weaker nations...

Just think: nations = regions in a USofE

Especially the federal system in Germany has alot of experiences with strong regional identities and we have learned to be all Bavarians, Brandenburger, Hesse, Swabians and what not and still preferring to live in this union called Germany.

There are of course rich power regions like Bavaria and structural weaker regions like...say....Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In a union like the US, the UK and also Germany, the richer regions give to the weaker regions. The weaker regions are much better off because of this...that is already happening in the EU (called EU funds wandering from the net payer to the net receiver) but would even more so in a USofE.

I doubt the Mecklenburg-Vorpommeranians feel absorbed...or the Bavarians imperial!

What are you so scared of?

A big dysfunctional mess?

Isn't it rather that a union makes each one of the members much stronger? Isn't it so that Scotland, Wales, Iowa, Montana or Vermont...each for his own would be a weak loser? Always the pawn of the much stronger neighbour?

Aren't these unions extremely successful? Much more successful than the not-unions? Would you call the UK or the US a dysfunctional mess?

I doubt the Bundestag would disappear, Scotland or Vermont have their own governments too... there had been just recently hotly contested elections in each of the US states if I remember correctly...the democracy fully in motion.

But one olympic team? One footie team? GOD YES!!! We would so rule!!!!! :):):)

Exactly! What other integration programs are going on behind the scenes right now?

That for example:

EU states back new common defence pact

All but five members sign up to plan to revive efforts to share capabilities

ft.com/content/ad6c198a-c877-11e7-ab18-7a9fb7d6163e

....The agreement on so-called Permanent Structured Co-operation (Pesco), signed by the 23 countries at a ceremony in Brussels, could cover projects ranging from new battle tanks to the deployment of multinational forces.....

Old news from 2017.....

How much of what makes Germany German are you willing to give up for the sake of closer integration?

What is Scotland giving up to be part of the UK? Or Wales?

What is Iowa giving up to be part of the US? Or Montana....or Vermont?

United States of Europe...what do you think that would be???

Nah...the EU isn't the Balkan. No serbian generals will attack people who want to leave Yugoslavia!

Yet the EU is bound and determined to further integration no matter what the pesky citizenry wants... an army next?

It won't work that way!

You totally ignore that millions of Europeans are PRO closer integration. The numbers differ from country to country....those countries where a majority is against they won't be part of it, which will lead in time to two spheres of integration. A core, which will grow to a United States of Europe in time and those who settle for less.

I guess even those on the outside will have even different sets of integration with the core, some will be closer than others. And some might even decide to join at a later point. The US weren't the full 50 from the beginning either.

You should think about a time frame of a whole century, it will go slowly, over many decades....but happen it will, I'm sure of it! It's not a political vision of some far gone elites but a necessity of the global developments. Those together will be much stronger in the future world than those alone! Economically, politically and militarily.

I'm not sure fascist Italy or Nazi Germany had been marxist societies before...the "Reds" had been after all the main enemy, after all the minorities and weak and other "undesirables"...

It's very far fetched to conclude a kind of disappointment about it's failings from that.

It's also abit unfair....after all for the leftists "internationalism" is everything, they even had a hymn, the "Internationale" to sing it's glory. Nationalism/Fascism/Nazism is a kind of contrast program to that!

So yes, Poland wants to be free from outside interference and wants to keep its national identity based on culture, language, religion (...)

....and why is that so? Because of that:

Chauvinism is a form of extreme patriotism and a belief in national superiority and glory.

You think you are something better than all the dregs around you...that's why you want to keep to yourself...to stay "pure" (better)...not mixing up...because that would make you somewhat "less", right?

Just be honest!

You'll have to accept that Germans may be not the smartest nation on this planet and others can handle things better than you do.

= hates/feels superior to other countries and people!

Thank you! :)

Their grounding was in national chauvinism not a nationalism

Where exactly is the difference? You said it yourself:

It can be also defined as "an irrational belief in the superiority or dominance of one's own group or people.

The hate for other people and countries stems after all from this irrational belief of one's own superiority! It's a natural consequence, it goes hand in hand.

You only want a white Europe or a "Poland for the Poles" when you belief other races and people are bad...a kind of poisoning of the pure, the good and clean ones.

Nazis and Fascists = Hate other countries and wish them the worst

Nazis and Fascists have their grounding in nationalism, they build on that, they march side by side with torches...and you are correct, all of them hate other countries and wish them the worst. They are all the reason for conflicts and war.

Patriotism and Nationalism are synonymous. Patriots are defined by love of Nation (theirs). Nationalism can't exist without them.

Nope! The definition and the difference is quite easy:

Patriots = Love their country and want what's best for it.

Nationalists = Hate other countries and wish them the worst.

You can easily define who is what just by listening to them! A patriot does not feel the need to downtalk other countries to make his own country look better. He doesn't see enemies to fight against everwhere etc. etc. etc....Nationalists NEED the fight/dislike/hate against other countries! Patriots rather want peace and cooperation, because that's what is the best!

You should rather focus on real problems like those German neo-nazis celebrating a birthday of German nazi Rudolf Hess

....surely only some misguided patriots....some nationalists gone abit over the top....nothing serious...

instead of being so "concerned" with Polish Independence March.

Yeah...well...I apologize...they closed the "german" thread....so I need to invade other threads...I'm a German, if I'm not invading something I'm not happy....

The march makes now even the international headlines:

Fears of violence as Polish state intervenes in nationalist march

Row over annual far-right rally overshadows preparations for independence centenary

theguardian.com/world/2018/nov/09/fears-of-violence-as-polish-state-intervenes-in-nationalist-march

Last year's event, which attracted an estimated 60,000 people, received widespread international condemnation for the presence of racist and xenophobic banners and slogans and instances of violence directed at counter-protesters......

True or not but such reporting is not good for Polands international image...

That was a serious answer,

And that is nice of you and I thank you for that, but honestly I can see them coming already after such a display of german nationalism, the many accusations and warnings of a new fourth Reich...

Even on this board I have to defend my patriotism against people trying to tell me how **** my country is and how un-popular and hated (everybody says so), and that I need "remembering" about all my country's misdeeds so that I not get to "uppity/arrogant".

And then such a march? ;)

There are still conflicts and open wars raging world wide because of the border drawings by Empires and govs which have long bitten the dust....some satisfaction will only be reached when enough smart people on all sides value the peace more.

and therefore doesn't wish to seem too much of a German nationalist. F

Who DOES want to see to much of a German nationalist?

Just imagine all these foreign nationalists lamenting the lack of visible german nationalism...like flag waving parades...tantrums...attacks at foreign countries....unreasonable demands....when such a german nationalists came to power in Berlin...oh how they would cry..."dominating Germany" would be the least of their problems.

Hypocrits, the whole lot!
