Genealogy / Is Tuga (Female) / Tugi (Male) a Polish surname? [12]

I don't use cyrillic keyboard so it is problematic for me to use Ukrainian sources

OK, tuga is a Ukranian word (just found it in the Ukrainian online dictionary) but it is a noun and adjectives of tuga are tuzhniy and tuzhliviy and not tuhi, tuha therefore I still believe Tugi to be the same word as Tęgi - you have to remember that Wołyń was always on the border of Ukrainian and Polish speaking regions and that some local borrowings could have taken place

Genealogy / Is Tuga (Female) / Tugi (Male) a Polish surname? [12]

Stankiewicz says that the source is Old East Slavic.

maybe he is right - I'm not an expert on Russian - but he gives conflicting etymologies on some surnames so I doubt he's an authority on the matter

however neither I am an expert on Ukrainian so I could be wrong about the Tugi/a being cognate with Tęgi/a

Love / DO RELIGIOUS POLISH GIRLS STILL EXIST IN THIS GENERATION [66]

faith healing and other theatrics

if you call faith healing theatrics I don't know what you don't call that

as for speaking in tongues - there is serious doubt if it is the Holy Spirit talking through these people in many many cases

and I am not Catholic, not even Christian in the most accepted meaning of the term

Genealogy / Is Tuga (Female) / Tugi (Male) a Polish surname? [12]

and it is clearly polonified

ok it is Polonified, I forgot that Ukrainian didn't have g originally
and I still think it is the same word as Tęgi
according to wikidictionary tuga is a SerboCroatian word and not Ukrainian (it looks like it is ProtoSlavic though so it could have been in Ukrainian vocabulary in the past)

Genealogy / Is Tuga (Female) / Tugi (Male) a Polish surname? [12]

What does it mean in Ukrainian/what is its origin?

big (and and fat) - of people - in Polish it has figurative or extended meanings don't know about Ukrainian

It is a polonified form of an originally Ukrainian surname

it's not even Polonified on the outer the sounding of the surname would be perfectly the same in Ukrainian

the form Tugi for a male and Tuga for a female mean that the originally the surname was an adjective - it hardly fits your version of it being somehow connected with worry

Love / DO RELIGIOUS POLISH GIRLS STILL EXIST IN THIS GENERATION [66]

Firstly he's a practising Catholic, and a Charismatic one

there is charismatic movement in Polish catholic church - it's called Odnowa w Duchu Świętym (Renewal in the Holy Spirit) - the problem would be the language barrier if he were to look for a spouse among women from that movement

Genealogy / Is Tuga (Female) / Tugi (Male) a Polish surname? [12]

Tuga/Tugi is originally an Ukrainian surname - in Polish it would be Tęga/Tęgi - however there are many Poles who bear Ukrainian surnames - some kind of Polonization must have taken place among the Ukrainian folk in some areas (though Wołyń was not exactly the epicenter of the phenomenon)

UK, Ireland / Moving stuffs from London to Warsaw or Gdansk [5]

in 2007 we paid 2000 PLN for moving home from the middle of Germany to Poland (Opole district) - think of it : London is more than twice the distance

if you believe Polish removal companies would be cheaper try searching for : "przeprowadzki z Anglii do Polski"

Genealogy / Slavs are descendants of Sarmatians? [600]

Crow - the current theory about the nature of Serbs and Croats among Slavic speakers (both Serbs and Croats were originally Sarmatian according to the ancient sources) is they lived in close vicinity to Slavs and travelled to central europe with them - I don't know if they became Slavicized already in the Slavic Urheimat or only after settling in Central Europe but they were probably Slavicized before they reached Balkans and the present day Germany

Law / Sport fishing in Poland - Do you need license or buying permit to fish in the sea and coastline? [7]

@miasto1

here's the website I found it contains the bank account number for Zachodniopomorskie (West Pommerania) and some legal details - be sure to enter the name of the fishing administration outlet (Okręgowy Inspektorat Rybołówstwa Morskiego w Szczecinie) on the payment receipt - zpw.pl/zezwolenie-na-strefe-morska

this is the other OIRM website - this one is for the are of Tricity - bip.oirm.gdynia.pl/214.html

there is another Regional Inspectorate in Słupsk it seems contrary to what I thought (I thought they were voievodship based) - what region are you going to visit in Poland - I may be able to direct you to the right OIRM knowing where you are going to fish

Travel / Taxis from Gdansk airport? [65]

why not use public transport - it's very cheap - there is a bus line from the airport to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz railway station where you can catch very frequent trains to Gdynia

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

The problem with not being judgemental is the eventual loss of the ability to distinguish good from evil.

it is called grey thinking which is eventually as deadly as black-and-white thinking

Law / Sport fishing in Poland - Do you need license or buying permit to fish in the sea and coastline? [7]

@miasto1
Hi I checked the internet for infromation and this is what I found - you need to pay a fee to be allowed to fish in the sea in Poland (30 PLN for one week, and 70 for one month and 140 for a whole year) - the proof of payment is enough to start fishing but it should contain your full name - when you come to Poland ask people for the bank account you need to pay the fee into - there are two administrative regions on Polish sea and you have to pay into the respective Regional Sea Fishing Inspectorate (OIRM) - the licence is valid starting on the day of the payment and lasts for a week, month or a year) - I can post the bank account number for the West Pommeranian region if you wish - haven't found the one for Pommeranian region yet

Genealogy / Slavs are descendants of Sarmatians? [600]

Sarmatians were Slavs (Proto Slavs)`,

Sarmatians were definitely not Slavs - the languages were very different

News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

In Poland the most balanced is Rzeczpospolita

Rzeczpospolita is not really balanced, and it's getting worse by the day - including posting blatant lies about the PiS government - you need to watch Salonik Polityczny Rafała Ziemkiewicza more (if you already do) - it's a weekly show broadcast on TV Republika but people make it available in Youtube - the journalists who take part in the discussion don't support neither PiS nor PO unconditionally - take a look at archive editions of the show you will find out -

The Silesian dialect referred to here apparently is "Czech-ized"

you are completely wrong - Silesian dialect is not Czech-ized Polish - it's a completely separate developement

News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

TVPiS broke the contract by being unable to provide the promised artists.

Opole Mayor has not say in who is going to play during the festival, he never had

secondly it's not the city of Opole who is the owner of the brand Krajowy Festiwal Piosenki w Opolu as far as I know but TVP - there are already lawsuits filed against Kayah and the city of Opole by TVP

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

We've already seen a couple of them trying to blow other people up

I heard of only one case of a real bomb - and it was a Korwin-Mikke supporter not an ONR supporter who was the culprit - fortunately nobody was hurt

if you mean Brunon K. case - there was no real bomb planted anywhere and the whole thing was engineered by ABW to quote Gazeta Wyborcza - Brunon Kwiecień winny organizowania zamachu na Sejm - uznał ostatecznie Sąd Apelacyjny w Krakowie. Ale równocześnie obniżył mu karę i wytknął, że agenci ABW podczas tajnej operacji przeciwko Kwietniowi sami w niektórych sytuacjach prowokowali go do działań., he got encouraged to blow up something from ABW operatives -

Some Poles live in Poland all their lives and still hate the Polish way of life, you can see them marching behind the banners of ONR,

Harry have you seen anyone of those tens if not hundred of thousands who join the Independence March blow up themselves? no? maybe they are not the same kind of people as muslims, ever considered this? even if as you claim they 'hate' the Polish way of life

News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

" Kayah, one of the country's most popular singers, had been barred from appearing at the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole next month because she ...."

that's a lie (actually multiple lies in one sentence) as far as I know - she performed on the public TV about two weeks before the whole affair happened and also numerous times before during PiS reign -

News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

They said on numerous occasions the TV licence would go down to 10 or 12 ZL per month as soon as they introduce new rules obliging everyone who has a TV set to pay the TV licence.

the new rules haven't been implemented yet as far as I know and I'm not sure they will be implemented for 2018
I guess you have no choice now but to vote for PO, Nowoczesna or PSL Ziemuś - are you going to feel ok with that choice? should I remind you how many broken promises PO made?
