Language / Are the languages of Russian and Polish similar at all? [94]

There was curious case when I saw German, Polish, Russian and Kazakh guys speaking on a Hong Kong street using Russian. ;

After smoking some grass with my friends I too used to be in Bangkok speaking French to a cyprus tree. We understood each other perfectly.

Sure, especially "bukvi" are very helpful.

;) Yeh, after them you will be fluent in Polish and Suomo languages at the same time.

History / Polish aristocrats - would be better off if we had Polish magnate families? [69]

They did which is why the constitution was created but you dont know about that either.

When was it created, historian? In 16, 17 or 18th century?
It was one more time that your szlachta showed its true colors:
Szlachticz # 1 "Ok, we will be raped by our own people by accepting that constitution or by armies from outside in 4 years".
Szlachticz # 2 "What is better for our fat lazy ars*es?"
Szlachticz # 3 "I think - our own people".
All together "Ok. Let's make a constitution of May 3rd in 1791"
Why was this conversation recorded only in 1791, not 1754 or 1675? Because their arrogant blind eyes realized their own ars*-saving solution too late. Anyhow, we have a true representative of szlachta in the 21st century:

yeah ? my grand grand grandpa was an aristocrat himself, so you and your grandpa can shine his boots !

I mean if you have people in our time limited to the point of oblivion, what was the situation in 18th century when szlachta couldn't take boots of their own feet. Szlachta was good for pancake dinners, not for leading a country or even worth to be part of a normal society. Basically, scum of the community with horses and coats of arms, which make someone very proud nowadays to the point of getting tattoo on a butt crack.

In a way, I understand you, Sokrates. Many need heroes to feel more important and worthy :)

You're so afraid of Lviv's polish history your people willingly devastate and destroy all the old polish architecture, sculptures of great Poles etc

That made my day :)))))))))))))))))))) There is one statue left of you, though, but we gave it as a gift to Poltava Agrarian Academy ;)

Who?!

The question like that simply testifies that you are a complete "0" in Ukrainian history, culture, literature and if you think I will be wasting my time on filling the abyss of ignorance in your szlachticz brain, you are deeply mistaken ;)

Also for lazy bastards they won a lot of wars, wars are hard work, winning them even harder.

They were always behind the infantry. Horses had to be fed, cleaned, raised, armor to be made, fat ass of the rider also fed, cleaned, wiped, even freaking boots from "Ogniem i Mieczem" movie - there had to be someone to take them off lazy d*ck! Isn't it something? And the bastard had the only thing to do: make his horse gallop like crazy, killing the enemy under its hoofs while the freak on top swang with a sabre a few times. Quite a service to the country in comparison to regular more important people.

polish economy was not riding on the backs of peasants:)))

Yes, I read Don Quixot too. Interesting story ;)

Your nation (Ukrainians) never had any elite whatsoever, you still dont, your people are barely even a nation and all you have to fall back in your weak poverty stricken state is petty fascism and saber rattling.

Of course, we had and have. Ukrainians lost millions of its intelligensia murdered (let tehy rest peacefully) by Russian and Soviet regimes, but we will recover sooner or later.

It is interesting, though, that while the topic is about Polish aristocrasy, you invent fascism and some rattling in my country. You, probably, don't know who the economy and existance of your country was kept on. It wasn't your "szlachta", lazy horse-riding bastards who treated people like sh*t and struggled for their country just to protect their property and status. Of course, in Ukraine it was identical. I have never denied it. Simply, the topic is about Polish counterpart.

By the way did you repair that awfull street in the centre of Lviv?

Well, it is constantly under construction since it marvellously attracts a lot of Polish tourists. English and German tourists I met before are really interested in museums and churches. People like you enjoy construction sites when visiting a city. The town council proposed to satisfy everyone, so for special visitors there is always a nice demolition site to go to. Later, when you are old, you might show your grandkids: "O.hhh kids, thiiiis isss a demolittin site IIIII was on while viiiiisitiiing Lviv. Isn't it beauuutifuuul". "Yeh, old fart, give us a break. Who takes a picture of a tractor when visiting a 760 year old city". Don't worry about the answer - you won't hear it anyway ;)

once pig herders always pig herders

That's true, only the pigs are gone...

Again if I was not such an ignorant arogant uneducated idiot

I don't think it is possible. PF treatment doesn't seem to improve your condition. You have szlachticz roots, that's, probably, why, since szlachta were a bunch of corrupted feudal morons. Btw, "arrogant" has 2 "r"s :) Liberum veto - give me a break ;) - a discount to buy millions. Invention of your "noble" ancestors who had nothing in mind, but to sell their country for a nice house on Wisla, don't giving the sh*t about the rest. How is your coat of arms? Did you make a tattoo of it on your uneducated ars*?

Life / As EuroPride visits Warsaw - is it the start of overdue social change in Poland? (homosexuality promotion) [144]

Any crack maths experts on PF?

I excel in crack, not both though ;)

assuming the widely published figure

And what are the sources?

3% homosexual population is responsible for one-third of all paedophile offences, then how much more likely is a homosexual to be a paedophile than a heterosexual?

You don't have to do math here: 2/3rd of pedophiles are straight people. In addition, when people are screened by stats for preponderance to commit a crime one's sexuality is not the sole factor taken into the account. Humans are not robots. Many factors influence our development: genes, surroundings. When people can live in this world with healthy expression of their sexual feelings, especially celibate priests or gays, there won't be as many cases of pedophilia on either side of sexual behavior. Suppression of feelings leads to them outflowing in the wrong direction and thus, consequences.

Btw, I am happy for Poland to be the 1st country in post-Soviet block to start this movement. A big step towards even more healthy society.

News / Why are Czechs more effective than Poles and Poland? [116]

Why are Czechs more effective than Poles?
It all depends on the location: the closer to Russia a country is, the more fukced up its history, economy, social life and standards are, unless you live on an island discovered for the first time in 1850s by the Western world or separated by a formidable thousand kilometers wall. As far as I know from geography Poland is not an island and mountains are in the wrong place. Czechs were partially saved by the distance. And they too were invaded by Soviet bastards in 1968.

Love / I fell in love (with a Polish schoolfriend of mine)... How to say I love her? [31]

Wake her up, not walk her up.

I might sound old-fashioned (well, I often am), but how he is supposed to wake her up? I mean: do they sleep together? And if yes, then what would be a problem to say: "I love you"? I think the guy is completely on the other level, spiritual, not like you old pervs think ;))

News / The chances for Warsaw to become capital of eventual Slavic confederation? [183]

I haven't. I was too young. My parents did, it was in the USSR.

The USSR was internationalistic. :)

I see you have to say a lot about Soviet life and how internationalistic it was. ;) Maybe, from your Russian parents point of view it was such, not from mine.

What do you think about Georgians killing innocent people in South Ossetia?

Russian BS as always. People are being killed in North Korea, Afghanistan, Pakistan, where are Russians? Not interested? Just in Georgia? Well, any country to fill with your people becomes somehow your target later. Your citizens are "being killed" or their rights "infringed upon", they cannot speak their language lies and as a result "we have to protect our poor suffering Russian citizens". I am worried about Poland letting your people from Kaliningrad oblast' visa-free pass. Soon Poles be "infringing" on "innocent Russian citizens".

I wish it was valued more and I strive for it.

What do you do? Continue being a young and send your parents to the store?

In my school in the USSR I could have learnt Ukrainian if I’d had a will too.

;) Wow, what a school! Was it called "Fantasy land" #27? Cut the crap, please. In Ukraine during the Soviet times there were hundreds of schools with no Ukrainian language in sight. And you say that they offered it in Russian school #27? Come on.

Also somehow I HAD TO HAVE A WILL to learn you language. I bet Poles HAD the Will too somehow. Why was that? Russian had no will an others had?

They are not fools they perfectly understand bearing in mind French example that people who can’t integrate sooner or later will cause problems.

I agree with that 100%. You can't integrate and you cause problems. When you do integrate these people are found out as spies years later all over the world.

you’re a source of extremely cheap labour.

But LABOUR!!!, not spies or lazy long-nailed horses whose source is undeniably Russia.

News / The chances for Warsaw to become capital of eventual Slavic confederation? [183]

Oh please... Now you'll be saying that this was solely the Ukrainian destiny

Where did I say that? Haven't you stood in lines to get a bread at 4 am while living in a pseudo-country-empire covering 1/8th of the planet? I bet you did. And as the policies of all the republics in the USSR were made in Russia, it is not hard to draw conclusions who is the one responsible for complete economic deterioration. Can you imagine your country without gas, oil and forests? It would be 4th world country. I wish you sooner than later realize that and make your country working by rules, not attacking Georgians and trying to muscle out your existance.

Sasha, please, stop to play pretending games of ficking Russian innocence. You can't leave alone even Georgia, a little country which strives to become a normal democracy. You have money to spend on things like spies in US, Cyprus, Canada, Germany, you have loaded even more to undermine the former BS union republics.

The Russian (no, I don't say "the Soviet" to pleasure your ears) heritage? Sure... :)

You don't have to pleasure me. Look simply at books, cinema, literature, schools, documents,.....of the former Soviet Union - everything filled with Russian, while local was considered as subservient to it, not supported and often forbiden as NATIONALISTIC. Did you have Ukrainian or Georgian literature at school? Did you have to sing Russian songs in your kindergarten? Did you ever read any of the Ukrainian writers in Ukrainian? ....Did you fill any state form in Georgian? You didn't. Because Soviet culture was based on Russian culture as well as its economy (if one can be called such). As Russia was backward as an Moscow empire, thus it is backward now. Ukraine is backward too. That's why I want it to be oriented on European way of life where individual means something. Pro-Russian better left for Russians.

News / The chances for Warsaw to become capital of eventual Slavic confederation? [183]

You already are accurately what you described. How can you counsel?

I know. That's why I said it, Sasha. Nothing to counsel. Anything pro-Russian, in other words backward, should be eliminated in any country willing to become prosperous and democratic, especially Ukraine. Politicians expressing love to living in sh*t the way Russia suggests to, deported out of the country with no possibility of coming back, even in a coffin. Trust me, I hate more "Ukrainians" than anyone else. One's weakness is enemy's strengh, so I blame mostly my people. But you know, Sasha, it happened that your country occupied mine for centuries and many bright minds were eliminated, many not so bright minds were sent to live in my country from various regions of Russian empire, most loyal and arrogant representatives, scum basically. So I can't be exclusive here.

It looks like any direction would be better for you than your current state.

You perfectly know what it was like in 1980s, especially at the end of 1986-1990: We were waking up at 4am to buy bread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and sour cream (in a country which was once a bread basket of Europe). To get milk you had to wait in 100 people lines on certain days only. The stores were empty. These are just survival basics. Whatever was on the shelves was of the lowest quality one can imagine. Should I tell you that? And you are saying about direction? What direction do your country move in, Sasha? Or you are happy about empire and be a little worthless ant who will be squashed any given moment? Many escape into believing that everything is good and make foreign words their own just to breathe quietly in their fearful lives. Are you one of them?

Slavs were meant to disagree. It's in their natures.

It's nothing of nature. One can cooperate perfectly with no confederation in place. What stands in the way? The basis for love is money. So what will glue the Slavs? Platonic aspirations?

News / The chances for Warsaw to become capital of eventual Slavic confederation? [183]

if USA and EU can, why SC wouldn`t work?

Because USA is one nation country, which established its language and culture based on the majority of people at times when there was no notion of nationalism as such. EU exists because it was based on countries which were striving to improve their economical and political relations and power in the world decisions' making as one since alone they wouldn't be able to. These countries have centuries of reliable economics and business practices. Millions of Slavs are against Russia, not really a Slavic nation, to be within this imaginary union. Serbians are for it. Go ahead. Become a backward, third-world country, corrupted and mafia-run instead of following European direction. I know you care for Russia because of Kosovo, though often you have big mouth about Ukrainian lands. If you love your country - love it, but never use other country and its territory as an excuse for your suck-up. Have decency at least at that.

There will be never such a failure as it was in Ukaraine or Geargia, but we need time.

Sarcasm?

Absolutely not. I am really interested. The story of DNA discovery I read a bit in my bio class. But it would be worth reading in more depth, that's for sure. Thank you, enkidu. Btw, they say that it was actually Rosalind Franklin who discovered the double-helix structure of DNA, but her partner gave the info to Watson and Crick and they completed practically finished job.

Genealogy / Najgebauer help please [24]

Najgebauer

It could have originated from "Neigebauer", which sounds identical. I looked into the dictionary and "die Neige" might mean "end", "bottom" while the verb "neigen" means "to tilt, to lean, to incline". So it is possible that "Neigebauer" might have meant not quite rich farmer or someone inclined to agriculture. But this is just my opinion.

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

Oh come on - of course science needs publicity and followers. I know something about Physics. Up to XIX century the new conception wins simply because the supporters of the old ones died out and the new generation of scientist make their rule. Since XIX century its much more rely on a publicity. (like mr Einstein for example)

I have no idea about physics besides trusting Newton that apples do fall from trees due to some strange force, so I cannot argue in any intelligent way here about the modern physicists discord, but it can't be based on the basic physics laws I assume. They may disagree on Black holes or some pulsating bodies (what is that???!!), but nobody argues with apples. The same with religion: when we talk about general philosophy, we more or less agree on its principles, but when it comes to Black holes and pulsating bodies of the afterlife, we show the fangs and spit the venom :)

For real Catholic-conservative voters the
choice between KaczyƄski and Komorowski is like choice between plague and cholera.

Thank you, Torq, it is a good lesson for me and millions of my compatriots. We always analyze what is worse and pick the other one. And that other bastard thinks that s/he, as a political person, was really that much supported. You have to show them what you think right away to keep them on leash.

News / WHY DOES POLAND BUY GAS FROM RUSSIA? [105]

Who elected him? :) Let me guess... "Russians" right? How many Russians in Ukraine you said? 10%? less?

Well, Russians make up around 18%, the rest who voted are either zombies created by the Soviet Union or normal people who are tired of BS on both sides of the political life and are fed up by Russian-media, which is stifling especially estern Ukrainian territories by it non-stop pro-russian ideology, which many used to drink while living in the Soviet Union every day and every night: from a book at school, radio at home and posters in every freaking corner of social life, even in "night-clubs", which played "Kalinka-malinka", the only song your culture managed to bring into this world. He was elected by slightly more than 50% of those who voted, being a candidate against not very popular during the crisis PM Tymoshenko.

And yes I know you "don't care but... let those **** russkies burn in hell..."

I am tired and sick of Russians and those Ukrainians-zombies whom I hate even more. Russians, and I am not afraid to generalize, because it is a plague which the West is not aware of yet, are not able to live like normal, peace-loving people in foreign country.

Russian leaders have also expressed concerns about the E.U.'s Eastern Partnership program, which was unveiled earlier this month and aims to deepen economic and political ties with six former Soviet states, including Ukraine. At the E.U.-Russia summit in Khabarovsk over the weekend, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said E.U. officials had "failed to persuade" him that it was not harmful to Russian interests. "What confuses me is that some states ... see this partnership as a partnership against Russia," he said.

content.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1900838,00.html

These movements openly state their mission as disintegration of Ukraine and restoration of Russia within the borders of the former Russian Empire[46] and, reportedly, have received regular encouragement and monetary support from Russia's politically connected businessmen.[52] These organizations have been known not only for their separatist and pro-Russian activities, but have been also accused of organising massive acts of protest, vandalism and violent attacks at public offices.[53]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians_in_Ukraine

This is just a tip of an iceberg. It is Polish forum and I don't want to be rude by talking too much about Ukraine, but all this is for Polish people to realize (I don't doubt that they already know) what this Russian plague is and why I support every move for Polish gas or other energy sources diversification. It is not a joke. Poland is dependant on that gas too, but press your government or EU in general to seek an alternative.

News / WHY DOES POLAND BUY GAS FROM RUSSIA? [105]

But why only 10 years?

Because:

Under the contract worth an estimated 100 billion dollars – the biggest business deal in the history of Poland – Poland is to increase its imports of Russian gas.

The contract to buy gas from Gazprom until 2037 will make Poland 100% dependent on Russian gas for the next 28 years in spite of the announcement of the discovery of huge gas reserves in Poland in April just before the memorial service in Katyn, Smolensk.

So, it is not even 20 years, it is 28! Do you think Russia will disappear in 10 years? Or with the discovery of new deposits of gas in Poland the price of gas will go up somehow? I don't really know the specs of the deal regarding the price, but

representative of the Russian Economy Ministry warned Poland that if the country did not sign the agreement soon, it could end up with no gas in October.

this tone of business negotiations is not acceptable. It means that Poland won't do it in its own interests, but is basically forced into the unwanted deal. How do you expect the government in all its decency to develop its own reserves when there is 28 years deal where you want it or not, have to purchase the gas. And as you see, it is not only about purchasing what Poland needs, it is acctually more

Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk intends to change a gas agreement with Russia, if it turns out that the part of needs could be covered by the gas produced from shale.

This is what I think is quite reasonable. You don't buy a car with 28 years promise of purchasing gas for it.
Again, hope they will do the best for their country and people. That's all that matters. If there is no other option, but blindly follow what Russians demand, I don't argue then. You do what you have to do to survive.

News / WHY DOES POLAND BUY GAS FROM RUSSIA? [105]

My country haven't stole the gas intended for EU, at least it wasn't proven. But have you read what I said? I didn't say Poland should rely on gas supplies from Russia, no matter what country it goes through - just fcuking diversify as soon as possible! If you have no one else to buy your gas from, then, of course, you have no choice. But again, bargaining can be made to reduce the length of the contract to at least 10 years. I wish Poland does better than sick corrupted fcuks in Ukrainian parliament and our retarded "president". That's all.

And we will set up the LNG terminal on the Baltic coast, speed-up the shale gas thingy
and there's like a dozen of possible diversification projects...

The only sane solution. Be as independent and diversified as possible. These 2089 or 3011 year contracts are nothing short of Russian KGB crapping the pants of new energy sources development. Soon this pseudo-federation of independent states called Russian Federation is gone. Feast is coming :)

History / 1587-1588 Poland's War with Austria [22]

3,700 cavalry and 2,300 infantry, crushed the Austrian forces, of 2,600 cavalry, 2,900 infantry and 8 cannon

So it was 1100 horses against 600 infantry, hmm... I thought it would be the other way around : )

I really wonder how the Austrian Archduke felt when he lost against a polish nobleman.

Interesting question. Let's take a look who actually fought in this village-against-village conflict:

In 1587 Maximilian stood as a candidate for the throne of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, following the death of the previous king, Stefan Batory. A portion of the Polish nobility elected Maximilian king

His cause had considerable support in Poland, but fewer Poles flocked to his army than to that of his rival

Rudolf II of Austria (July 18, 1552 – January 20, 1612), Holy Roman Emperor as Rudolf II (1576–1612), King of Hungary and Croatia, as Rudolf (1572–1608), King of Bohemia as Rudolf II (1575-1608/1611) and Archduke of Austria as Rudolf V (1576–1608). He was a member of the House of Habsburg.

Notice the period when Rudolf ll was an Archduke of Austria!
But who was Maximillian then who lost in the 1588 Village skirmish at Zadebowki powiat?

From 1593 to 1595 Maximilian served as regent for his young cousin, Ferdinand, Archduke of Inner Austria

Oups! So he was a REGENT for his young COUSIN who was to become archduke of ....Inner Austria. (Inner Austria was just a tiny piece of Austria proper) Quite a "War" with Austria! :)
