Work / Salary of a paramedic in Poland [22]

But Poles are experts on living cheaply with a decent standard of living. Practice makes perfect.

Yup, it's probably not that bad for most of people, my friend is a paramedic but he also works as swimming pool lifeguard.. people do different things to make ends meet. From what I heard many of them feel destined for such job, the other part can't do any better.

It's comical how everyone are ignoring Harry's boorish smacktalk.

Sorry must be more to this story

Agree, sparse details he gave us are at most suspicious and flamemongering.

News / Polish Priest checks fingerprints for mass attendance [26]

I could use my brain once in a while I know I can!

Yes you could.

It seems they value quantity over quality.

Yeah, many of these have no idea what they are actually doing.. half of them chats away most of the mass..

USA, Canada / Do you speak English? Have you lived in America? New LOVE/HATE list......... [144]

Lech, Zywiec, Tyskie, Warka

same taste? I'm not a huge beer fan myself but come on, you are either too young or haven't developed your taste yet. Come on, it's like comparaing table water with coca cola. You don't have to like them ( I don't like them personally, and prefer most Chech beers and Grolsch) but there's no way they are of the same character/taste..

you are a good person!
And that's why you speak with wisdom. you have nothing of the Spanish Inquisition in you.

Thanks :) Nobody expects spanish inquisition.

Maybe we'll see lie detectors in the confessional !

exactly, priests breeding fresh vegetables for themselves...

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

Well I certainly didn't interpret that the way you did frd. I thought it was a list of someone's observations of characteristics commonly exhibited by Poles.

Most of the things pgtx mentioned in the first post seemed lightheartened, rather comical, along the nudge nudge wink wink lines, hence I interpreted it that way. Another thing adding to that was the fact that there were/are plenty of threads about "average generalized Pole" so a thread about expats getting Polish traits would be a breath of fresh air and something pretty interesting and entertaining... anyways nevermind, I take it all you guys in your posts were writing about yourselves ;)

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

I agree, it's more typical in Britain but this isn't about Britain, is it?

I though this thread was about expats becoming more and more polish, about certain polish traits that foreign expats in Poland start to show after a prolong time spent with Polish people.

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

you think cabbage is a gift from God.

Now this thread is going more and more up to the wall.. I've never seen anything similar except for the "Life of Brian"s

- Let us, like him, hold up one shoe and let the other be upon our foot for
this is His sign, and all who follow Him shall do likewise.
- Follow the gourd! The Holy Gourd of Jerusalem.

Maybe it's more like you guys, prostrating in front of unanimated, not even slightly appealing objects..

UK, Ireland / Polish TV channels in the UK [95]

5 or 6 years, is it a CRT? if it is, it might still have old SCART socket.. if it does I wouldn't recommend plugging your laptop to it. Nothing should happen really but firstly you'd need a lot of cables to connect them, secondly the quality will be horrible. I'd be careful with these cheap DVD players, my parents were trying a few and changed them rather rapidly, they often don't read all types of DVD's and start malfuctioning early on. It's better to buy one proper DVD player such as Wroclaw mentioned with a possibility to plug in some outside memory. The player should have divx codecs to be able to play most of the (pirated/ripped ;) ) movies.

If you're gonna be changing your TV soon ( 50'' HD ready tv's are around 2500 zlotys already) it would be pretty comfortable to use the laptop and stream whatever you like from it... hd ready 720p or full hd 1080p would need a D-Sub or HDMI or a VGA video interface.

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

If more Polish people I met would LET me practice Polish

You should start playing games with Polish people on that xbox of yours ;) A really go way to immerse yourself in the language if you have no other ways to do it.

On the other hand most of polish gamers on xbox are 13 - 18 year old kids so it could be hard to learn anything except slurs and swears ; )

What kind of Laptop do you have? If it does have VGA or HDMI port than it's really easy to hook it up to your TV a watch anything you want.. no need to buy additional DVD players then..

Food / Do Polish restaurants use dead dogs fat as a delicacy for you to eat? [41]

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is Mark? trying to boost his site.

No idea. Both are morons, he runs away from good arguments - no answer to what I've said. Doesn't know how to use a forum hence double posting instead of editing, spamming. Breaking the netiquette by typing everything in bold. And is gullible enough to think that even if somebody believes him, is going to avoid Poland, wishful thinking hehe.

Life / Can foreigners really understand Poles? [136]

racist

There's nothing racist in the question, just a matter of a lack of understanding. Somebody who asks such question most probably has serious issues with understanding any cultures at all. I agree with some posters here that sometimes it's hard to agree or understand people on the local level, for instance from the neighbouring city, not mentioning other countries.

So when are you gonna learn proper english?

what's with you stalking this guy?

So where are these evil restaurants in the piece you've posted? Try your fearmongering somewhere else Mikas there's too many englightened people in here to listen to your bleeting, besides, the "dog-fat" topic has already emerged here several times - use the search option.

Life / Are Xbox games in Poland translated into Polish? [8]

Most of the ones he buys new here in Poland, though, are in English.

Do you guys have language locale set to English and location set to UK/US? It might be the reason? In the worst case only subtitles and menus should be in polish.. I'm pretty sure Gears of War 2 didn't have polish voices...

anyways, it's usually possible to buy UK versions of games on allegro.pl
Taking into consideration that games are much cheaper in UK many people import games and sell them here.

Life / Are Xbox games in Poland translated into Polish? [8]

For Xbox360 there's only one fully translated game - "Mass Effect 2" ( polish dialogues ) without an option to change it. Beside Mass Effect 2 there's only one game I know that has got polish menus and subtitles - Call of Duty 4:MW2 ( dialogues in english ). Beside these 2 games on xbox360 normally check your locale settings and set the proper language version following console language configuration. I'd say it's pretty safe to buy most of the games beside RPG games which are getting translated more often recently.
