History / CONSIDERATIONS ON THE GOVERNMENT OF POLAND April 1772 [12]

There was a lot of substantive overlap and you are interpreting contemporary way too literally. They covered the same ground for the most part. It doesn't matter that they reached different conclusions, it matters that they influenced one another.

History / The Untold Battle of Britain [205]

Ironside, it's government sanctioned war. It is not murder in the context of a civilian killing in self defence because of some idiotic government forcing his hand. What a farce it is when civilians get dragged into it through being guilty by association. I would be VERY angry with my government for causing that and would not see my actions as being murderous in self defence. However, the nature of declared war is just that, killing with mens rea and premeditated thoughts.

History / The Untold Battle of Britain [205]

War is murder as there is malice aforethought and the requisite mens rea to kill. It isn't caused by reckless endangerment like is the case with manslaughter/homicide.

Ironside, I'll check out that video and see what I understand by it.

Yeah, I got the gist of it. Nice wartime song. Far afield soldiers. Still, war, whilst being a 'necessity' for some, is a living hell for many.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

It depends where you stay. For many years I was paying 750PLN pcm which included bills and the internet. I still pay under 1000PLN (950). You just need to get lucky but be firm with some landlords. Mine is a legend and there is immense mutual respect for what each other is about.

If it doesn't work out, then you join the queue behind many Poles.

History / The Untold Battle of Britain [205]

There are plenty good videos on Youtube on this topic. The Spitfire ones are the best :) :) Highly informative and told by the pilots, mostly English. I have the utmost respect for those men. They whooped the Luftwaffe's butt against the odds but they are first to admit that timing was on their side. Oh, even the strength of the wind played a role and I'm not talking about the aftermath of curries either.

Well done to those British and Polish pilots that gave the Luftwaffe a tanning.

USA, Canada / A Canadian citizen overstayed Visa in Poland [35]

Not by Africans, Pakistanis and Indians, Am ;) ;)

Brown, you have to wait til Canada merges with America and Mexico. Then your union will merge with the EU and all will be clear ;) ;)

USA, Canada / A Canadian citizen overstayed Visa in Poland [35]

A wife is no guarantee of citizenship. I have a Polish wife but haven't put in for citizenship yet. I think you need to have spent 6 years in Poland to be considered. I'm coming up for my 6th year so may be eligible.

Why didn't you get it sorted before they deported you btw?

Food / Activia/Danone - why so popular in Poland? [13]

We have to question conventional wisdom. Look at fluoride. Ask experts and you'll find mixed opinions. A leading figure did a major presentation on its harmful effects. Danone doesn't provide tangible benefits and preys largely on the vulnerable nature of people.

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think about Canadians? [44]

There was one guy I worked with that was really on the level. He did his job really well and was fair to all around him. Another woman was really cool too. However, I found Kiwis and Canucks to be anal for the most part. Very uptight and lacking in punch. I'm sure this isn't so accurate generally.

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think about Canadians? [44]

I've found the Canadians I've met to be either arrogant, anal or weird. They all had complexes and were not people I liked to associate with. However, I just got unlucky.

News / The chances for Warsaw to become capital of eventual Slavic confederation? [183]

Why not Kiev, Crow? Are the Ukrainians any less Slavic than the Poles? They sit right between Poland and Russia and could be sth of an intermediary party. Isn't it time they had some kind of clout, esp given that they are not in the EU or NATO. Otherwise, they may be marginalised and seen as an irrelevant player.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

It's not a much sought after language in many parts. Poles are kidding themselves if they think most Brits are gonna pay 30 quid an hour which is what some ask for. Why would Brits want to know Polish outside of having acquaintances? They know English, a far more useful language.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

Oh really? That's why I can make myself understood to around 40 million people? Communication is what makes a country work effectively. It allows for so many things. Useless? LOL
