Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

So it is not Czocha. I am checking castle sites and maps now .....

I found it:

Moszna Castle
The palace and park complex used to be a residence of the German Tiele-Winckler family till 1945. This gigantic 7,000 square and 65,000 cubic meter construction was started in the 17th century and has 365 rooms and 99 turrets. It is reminiscent of the English castles from the Elizabethan period. Now a Centre of Therapy of Neurosises and hotel.

Where did you stay? In the hotel or the other part? :):):):)

@paw, second pic is a psych hospital. on way to prudnik from krk. In the arches on the tower are the skeletons of some of the former residents. Ive been there once many moons ago. The standard of care is shocking.

this is my pic of the same place, seems like we have the same taste in travelling :)

Back when I visited it there was a sign pretty much saying so at the entrance :/

It all sounds really mysterious, indeed. :):):):):)

But I would call them murals rather than graffiti.

When you read closely, you will see that I wrote murals. :):):):)

Any ideas why Wrocław is probably the most sprayed city in Poland?

I tend to believe it is some kind of tradition, started by Waldemar Fydrych in communist times and followed today by young Vratislavians who think they are as cool as Fydrych and his Orange Alternative movement.

He painted gnomes/dwarfs on wallls to mark the sites where anti-communist slogans were painted over by the authorities.

Gumishu - you have to be patient because the cabinet meeting starts at 37:45

Oosp, I am not that patient. I reached 5 minute and that was too much.

for the lacking in patience - the clous is this: Tusk asks the Chinese 'manager' Why are you taking to building motorways if you don't know how? and the Chinese manager says 'Why have you taken to leading the nation?'

Thanks for that but it is only a boring cabaret programme.
Still, it proves that democracy under Tusk is strong in Poland.

another classic ... was removed from youtube because of 'multiple breaking of copyright laws' (on behalf of Polish state TV) - read: Tusk realizes when they joke about him it is not going to be fun around the ballot box

Don`t be unwise. I had two TV cabaret programmes removed from youtube for breaking their laws and I got the warning. And there was nothing about Tusk in them. The one you posted will probably be removed too sooner or later. Don`t mix politics into it.

News / POLAND HAS LOST 1 MILLION PEOPLE (for other EU countries) [30]

Read about Polish emigration throughout centuries. It is not only about seeking a better style of life and escaping from poverty. There is sth more to it. We are travellers and explorers by heart. After all, Columbus was Polish.

The method(s) are dying in Poland anyway -

Let`s kiss goodbye to this one and wait foe another one. And then another. And so on.

At uni I had learnt about several main methods of FLT. Afterwards new ones were developed and abolished sooner or later.

The best method is a mixture of all methods, suited to students` needs as well as class conditions and atmosphere. Even the day`s weather should be taken into consideration. A FL teacher should be a good psychologist, then.

I prefer blatant liar Tusk than blatant liar Kaczyński. Isn`t it clear? :):):):)

A few last remarks about Wrocław.

I acquired an irresistible suspicion that Wratislavians, after being forcedly resettled into Wrocław from Eastern Poland, still haven`t taken to the city and treat it as alien. Shortly speaking, I had an impressins that residents of Wrocław don`t like their city and have no idea what to do in it and with it.

First observance refers to grafitti and spraying on all kinds of objects. Wrocław abounds in spray painted surfaces. In no other city have I seen so much of that revolting vandalism.

I don`t mind fences in outskirts.

But tags on walls in the Main Square, bins, bridges, playground equipment, even benches and trees in the park? This is so sickening.

Do Wratislavians believe it is their new świecka tradition to spray on objects? A lot of official murals seem to demand recognition as art.
School

Is there a food that is specific for Wroclaw, like e.g. cebularze for Lublin?

Yes. Flądra odgardlona: I have never seen it anywhere else.

And herein lies one of the biggest problems in Poland - all this nonsense about institutions being "PO-run", or "SLD-run" or "PiS-run" - seriously guys....

Yes, this is nonsense but it happens every time the government changes in Poland. A new broom sweeps wide and clean. We still need to go a long way to reach British standards of civic duty.

seriously what - haven't you noticed that after Mariusz Kamiński anounced the scandal around gambling with the PO politicians in the main roles he was fired and replaced by some nice chaps who are friends with Mr Tusk? there were even more serious allegations against Mr Drzewiecki that the 'right' media completely distorted or ridiculed

Kamiński was replaced by nice guys but he himself was politically engaged as a strong PiS supporter. Did you forget his famous press conference in 2007?

He surely was as neutral civil servant as I am an Arch Bishop of Krakow.

I only saw this one:

Palikot - That's why I like him.

I also like him for funnily crazy style, but it was OK as long as he was a member of another party. Now he is trying to create sth own and that isn`t funny anymore.

Yes, the choice is limited.

Yes, the choice is limited.

I won`t vote PiS because they are maniacs obsessed with witch-hunts and tbeir leader is totally aberrated, just like his closest party companions.
I won`t vote SLD because they are post-communists and I vowed never to have anything in common with communists. Their anticlerical rethorics is unacceptable too.

I won`t vote PSL because I am not a peasant or farmer. Beside, they are descendants of former ZSL peasant party which supported communism in the past.

I won`t vote Palikot who is a little crazy and anti-clerical.
I won`t vote all other maniacs or sofa-size parties.

The only choice left for me is PO which has multiple drawbacks, but in comparison with the above they are OK.

Nice castle which I don't remember the name of. Skala castle?

Yes, Pieskowa Skała Castle.

Nice pictures. Thanks.

When I finish processing mine, I will add them to your great story to explain a few things. After all, we went to the National Park on the same day. :):):)

Taking into consideration, that most of these funds were generated by the Germans, there is not too much to thank, as previously they totally destroyed our country and deported en masse during the war, Polish citizens to work as slavery workers in Germany ,I consider it as form of compensation , it is better late than never.:):):) .

Clever thinking. :):):):)

So, instead of saying :Thank you EU! I should say: Thank you, Germany! ?

OK, it is fine with me: thank you Germany for sponsoring Poland. :):):):)

PiS started hanging their election posters.

Prime Minister Kaczyński

Jesus!

People, I deplore you, go to elections and stop that maniac from becoming a Prime Minister. It is true that Poland survived a lot: partitions, wars, occupations. But do we really need another disaster?

All hands on the deck!!

The cathedral was almost entirely destroyed (about 70% of the construction) during the Siege of Breslau and heavy bombing by the Red Army in the last days of World War II. Parts of the interior fittings were saved and are now on display at the National Museum in Warsaw
