This is a sad one. Was it planned? What would drive someone to do this? It would be interesting to know if Marcin Porczyński or Robert Dzieł have any previous in Poland:

Porczynski, who has also been charged with burgling the house next door to the Crosses', has a Facebook page on which he lists his hometown as Kielce, a city with 200,000 inhabitants in central Poland. It says he moved to Hemel Hempstead in May......

The Polish-born warehouse worker accused of Mrs Cross's murder was also charged yesterday with kidnapping the couple's two children, who are now safe with family

Who knows? If someone is from Pakistan then they're from Pakistan. If their roots are Pakistani, then they're Pakistani. They can be British too, if they so identify.

In that exact same way Professor Gross, born in Poland and with Polish roots is Polish from Poland. However much you squeal.

No. He's from Poland and is Polish. Read his biography, Grzegorz.

This "professor" has just "estimated"

I think we can credit him with more rigour than that - whether his findings fit your prejudices or whether they don't.

Listen to extreme nationalists squeal like piggies when their version of a narrative is challenged by facts. And Professor of History at Princeton has far more credibility than an anonymous internet sock-puppet.

There is nothing to dispute, Gross book is a work of fiction. End of.

Very articulate of you, but nonsense. If nothing else, his books are very well researched and though data had been challenged before by extreme nationalists, those challenges have failed.

I don't know his biography, according to english wiki he is sociology professor,

He is Professor of War and Society and Professor of History at Princeton University.

I don't think that will happen easily. Remember that Prof. Gross writes these book (his others are very different) in order to provoke discussion.

You do realise he's a Polish historian who specialises in mid 20th Century Poland. How broad do you want his horizons to be? Should he include

They try and diminish Polish crimes by pointing out that others committed crimes

In Russia they do the same thing. It's become a cliche really. And nobody is taken in by it.

Whenever a book is published that a particular tendency in Poland dislikes, the screaming is loud, but doesn't really carry very far.

Hardly, though that is exactly what you have been doing, suggesting one daft excuse after another.

You seem to think that he should only talk about Poland in comparison with other places. There's no reason for that at all. None. If he's talking about crimes in one country, why should he feel the need to list crimes in another?

Though why would he mention a country other than Poland in an interview about Poland. Not every nationality is hung up on comparing themselves with others...

In an interview about Poland, why would he talk about anything else. I'm sure he has other topics of conversation when not being interviewed...

Are these in any way connected to prof. Gross's book, or are you just trying to say that "it wasn't only us, they did it as well"?

Normal enough in Poland. make a lot of noise and hope the racket from the mob will drown out impartiality and objectivity. That technique hasn't worked for years.

If it wasn't so pathetic it would be funny to watch people every time an issue is raised try to negate it or distract from it by saying that group x, y or z also did bad things. Like people in the So key Union, whenever they perceived something as criticism of their system yelling "but the Americans lynch people".

True. Too bad it's one sided so far.

Yes Grzegorz, very bad indeed that nationalists from Poland try to dominate the narrative, and worse how much they stupidly squeal whenever someone points out a fact that is uncomfortable for them.

Whether it was one-thousand or three hundred, it was three hundred too many:-)

Even one is too many. As long as 'spokespeople' start huffing and puffing whenever someone publicly discusses a bit of history they'd prefer swept under the carpet, this type of book that challenges this narrative will keep on coming.

Needless to say, it isn't the outraged ministry spokesperson that people believe.

Yes. Warsaw is very safe. There was one minor demonstration that most people didn't notice (and these things are rare and very heavily policed). There are quite a few students from India in Warsaw, it's an increasingly cosmopolitan city and you shouldn't worry.

There are idiots everywhere however people in Warsaw are fairly civilised. Please ignore the poster called 'White Europe' - despite his name, he's not from Europe and has never even visited.

You shouldn't worry too much; just exercise the same caution as you would anywhere else, and there will be other Indian students who you will be able to talk with about their experiences. Good luck.

I still think PSL will be key to this and that the polls never reflect the number of votes they get.

Kukiz may find a sharp drop whereas certain of the smaller parties may end up above the threshold.
