Love / Marriage problems in Poland [50]

A woman's perspective here: he's out of the door if he cheats me.
The guy wants to save his marriage and you're giving him advice how to ruin it.
It's his wife. Not his b1tch.

Love / Marriage problems in Poland [50]

@nope
It's a tough time for her. Give her some time but at the same time, make sure she knows you're there for her.

Don't 'make her jealous' if you want to save the marriage. If she has doubts and sees you with another woman, she will think she's no longer important to you.

From what you wrote, I doubt it's about money, either.
You've been together for a while. The daily routine might have killed the passion.
You mentioned you've had some problems. Think how to solve them.
Don't assume she's found someone. Don't get that cynical. And I've never heard of anyone paying alimony to their ex in-laws? Why?

Love / Why are Polish women so cat-like? [30]

@swowkwkw
Seriously, what are you talking about?
Most Polish women choose Polish men. It's a fact. And it's not about you being Polish. Do you even speak fluent Polish? I believe you're more American than Polish.

You won't attract sane women when all you can talk about is: po.rn, crime, prison. Not to mention all those sick comments about children.

I have no idea what actually happened to you but you need professional help and probably medication. Get it before you hurt somebody. If the treatment is successful, you may be able to live a real life which is different from films and online videos.

News / Poland versus Greece in economy [175]

@delphiandomine
Yeah, he tries really hard.
There are some nasty looking post communist places here for sure but I can search the Web to find some photos of shabby places in Greece, too.

@rozumiemnic
From what I have gathered reading your posts here, at some point in your life you fell in love with a Pole, not a Greek so he's not your type for sure ;)

@Marino_Kat
Just in case you wondered. Among those who questioned your insults here, there are American, Scottish and Irish people so perhaps Poland is not so bad.

Especially that there have been Greek settlers here since the Middle Ages.

News / Poland versus Greece in economy [175]

@Marino_Kat
As a woman, I can say you're not attractive enough to make me forget about your little biased arrogant ego. Rozumiemnic doesn't seem impressed either.

You're pretty dark. Some may think you're Arabic. That and your insulting remarks may get you in trouble. Stay away from dark places.

You look like just another Italian/Spanish or Turkish student. Nothing special really.
You haven't been to Poland, yet you think you know what it's like. You don't.
You asked your questions and got answers. I had no business in giving you advice. And I got nothing but insults about my country. You didn't bother to thank but managed to lose your temper.

I'm sorry you have to go back several millenia back to be proud of your country. But the achievements of ancient Greeks are theirs, not yours.

And as for pederasty and pedophilia, they knew a thing or two about it, didn't they?
Despite of all the crap you've said, I think most people will be nice to you. Just because they won't be able to see through you at first sight.

Btw, visiting other countries is a chance to learn something new but not to narrow-minded people.

And you must have looked really hard to find such a photo of Warsaw. How pathetic.
As for its history, just because you're ignorant, it doesn't mean it doesn't have it.
And it does have a very tragic history.

News / Poland versus Greece in economy [175]

Oh, I've just read the rest of his posts ...
apparently:
he's 'attractive'
he's got a two-week job in Poland
he knows everything about Catholic priests' sexuality
women are ugly

Well ... I don't know what job it might be.

If this post is about economy, prostitution is not illegal here. Just a random fact.

Doesn't Greece punish people who know a criminal fact and report it? Otherwise people may think he's making it up.
As for him being 'taught a lesson' here, all I have to say, I don't wish anyone Polish to have to deal with such an ... unless the person is a Polish equivalent of his ... and in that case he won't be such a big mouth anymore.

Law / Maintenance Claim From Mother - Poland [19]

Try to gather evidence that she has more money that she claims.
Also she has to prove her low income doesn't result from her unwilligness to work or claim social welfare.

@Marino_Kat
Dear,
As an ugly woman with hair between my eyes (apparently), I advise you to keep your arrogant, prejudiced self away from Poland.

P.S. Can anyone explain the idea of hair between eyes to me? Like what does it look like?
Looks like someone knows a thing or two about hairy women ;)

@mafketis How did you end up in such a terrible country with such ugly women. You should have chosen Greece! All Greeks are related to ancient Greeks. They're all descendants of Alexander the Great (not Alexander of FYROM)! And all words are derived from Greek, even kimono! And bigos!

I'm in such an awe. WOW!

What does it have to do with being insulting towards Poland?
Just because you're having an online argument with people you assume are Polish?

@Marino_Kat
Will you please stop being arrogant and insulting Poland just because you're arguing with someone you assume is Polish or living in Poland.
You're full of prejudice and arrogance.
Why don't you go back to crying how other countries failed to help Greece? Why would they? Such a great country needed help. Unbelievable!

How about visiting another country?

News / Poland versus Greece in economy [175]

I can't really say the topic of Macedonia has been discussed much in the Polish media. I doubt too many Poles are aware of the conflict and since both countries are pretty far, not too many will be concerned.

When most Poles think of Greece, they usually think of ancient Greece, Zorba and holidays. The financial crisis was discussed here, too. So he's more likely to be asked about that.

But I'm really concerned he may get himself into trouble here with his offensive remarks. He's way too co.cky. He might be applauded for that among his friends with similar views, but abroad that may make him get into trouble. Hopefully, most will just find him arrogant.

@Marino_Kat
Oh, come on. There have been migrations of peoples in Europe for centuries. Read history. So what?
The borders of Poland have changed numerous times within 'just' a millenium. There have been Germanic, Scottish, Dutch, Ruthenian (and more) settlers and migrants here. Even Greeks after WW2.

Or take the British Isles.
You seem really full of prejudice against Slavs and Catholics. I don't know it's such a good idea to visit a Slavic and Catholic country. If you're so hot tempered in real life, too, you may get yourself into trouble and start a fight and then complain about Polish prejudice against Greeks.

Poles generally like Greeks, though.

Travel / Two Older Polish American Sisters to visit Poland 1st Time [29]

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mo%C5%9Bciska

Here's an English list of places called Mosciska on Wikipedia. The Polish one seems even longer.
Płock is in Masovian Voivodeship. That makes me assume, your Mosciska should be there too. But that still leaves you with six ( I must have counted wrong the first time...)

Between 1975 and 1998 there was a different administrative division in Poland and only two of these places were in the former Płock Voivodeship: Mosciska, Sierpc County and Mosciska, Gostynin county. So I guess they're closest to Płock. But that's just me googling, not confirmed information.

According to moikrewni.pl both Gorzelewski and Nyckowski surnames seem to be most common in Płock area but you still need more detailed information.

Or just visit Płock. The villages will probably look totally different than over 100 years ago.
As for the trip, I'd definitely spend about four-five days around Kraków ( including one for Auschwitz and one for Wieliczka).
The late April-May should be fine. It should (but who knows;) be pretty warm but not hot.
There's another recent thread about a trip to Poland with some ideas here in the forum. It may give you some more advice.

Do you know what Mościska your grandfather was born in? There are quite a few in Poland. Five of them in the same voivodship as Płock.

Do you want to devote two weeks for Poland only or two weeks for Europe? You mentioned seven places in Poland, some quite far from one another. You need to have some time to travel between places and rest. You also mentioned three other European capitals - that's quite a lot.

Genealogy / "Polish Jew" great-grandfather from Poland, but no Jewish DNA found on my mothers or my DNA results [7]

Are you sure Mair is a surname not a first name? I have just googled it and it shows up as the Hebrew version of Mary, Miriam or probably Moira.

I don't know much if anything about Hebrew but is it possible it says the son of Joseph and Mair?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Opatoshu

Apparently Meir might be used as a middle name for a man just like in the link above. Mair/Mair might be two different transcriptions from Hebrew.

That doesn't answer your question about the Jewish DNA but as Roz said, perhaps it's about a race. Google the topic online.

Genealogy / "Polish Jew" great-grandfather from Poland, but no Jewish DNA found on my mothers or my DNA results [7]

One of the reasons for conversion would have been marriage as there were only religious marriages in Poland back then, as far as I know. Although I have mainly heard of Jews converting to Christianity.

But I assume his wife and your grandma wasn't Jewish either. If she had, you would inherited 'Jewish DNA' from her.
Are you sure he was Jewish and not German? Was he a religious Jew? There were lots of Germans in Łódź, too. A German sounding 'Jewish' name might have in fact been German.

What about the name on the tombstone? Is it very different? Perhaps it's in yiddish?
We won't answer your doubts. Check the family records and contact the archives. Try szukajwarchiwach.pl and genetyka.pl for the names you have if you don't want to spend money on it. You might be lucky. Both sites have English versions but not all records have been digitilised.

Genealogy / Im looking for help with a place name. [8]

commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:!-2014-lysiny-figura-rzezba-swiety-jan-by-abri.jpg

Some more googling and I found out Łysiny in Lubuskie was also called Lissen. And there's a statue of Jan Nepomucen in front of the village church - in the link above. And you asked about that name before, didn't you?

Unfortunately, he seemed to have been quite a popular saint around Lubuskie

Anyway, it's really hard to say what your grandfather's birthplace was without further information.

Genealogy / Im looking for help with a place name. [8]

de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lissen

In the link above you'll find more places called Lissen. I have just come across it. It's in German but you can check the places' English Wiki pages.

The quality of the image is not excellent and the handwriting is pretty fancy but to me it looks more like Lissen than Lissa. It might be something else, too.

@Chemikiem

According to the German Wiki page Leszno was ' Lissa, früher auch Lissen, nicht zu verwechseln mit Deutsch-Lissa' so Lissa was formerly known as Lissen and it shouldn't be confounded with Deutsch-Lissa which is basically the full German name of Wrocław Leśnica.

Travel / Help with a travel plan to Poland [72]

I'm glad your travel plan is ready. Despite everything, I think it was a good idea not to go to Lublin this time. It will give you some extra time in Kraków. As for what to see in the area, I would suggest two things that are usually chosen by tourists travelling there. One is Wieliczka Salt Mine. Google it. It has beautiful salt chambers and statues. The other one is Auschwitz. A depressing witness to history but when will you have another chance to visit it?

Both of these places are not far from Kraków.
Be safe.

Life / Poland safe for a Greek? [93]

Have some cash with you - Polish złoty and you can use your debit or credit card, too. Just call your bank first to ask if you'll be charged for withdrawing money abroad. Not sure they do it in Greece or not.

In some places you can pay with euros- ask in advance but it's likely you may get the change in Polish złoty.
You may also pay by card or withdraw money from ATMs.

Life / Poland safe for a Greek? [93]

There are some Orthodox churches but mainly in Eastern Poland and in other parts of the country there are some but mainly attended by Ukrainians and Russians.

I'm sorry I'm ignorant about it, I don't know if it's the same branch of Christianity as Greek Orthodox churches. Afaik, they use the Old Church Slavonic, so probably not.

You need to do some research if you want to attend service.
I just recall seeing Catholic churches and synagogues in Kraków but it's a rather big city so there might be some Greek Orthodox churches.

Life / Poland safe for a Greek? [93]

Before you get angry again, keep in mind Poland is predominantly Catholic. I'm not sure you want to hang out with such a cowardly and evil bunch ;)

Not to mention, you'll see lots of Catholic churches, nuns and priests in Kraków.
Some may ask you about Macedonia, although there's little possibility. If so, be more diplomatic ...
And don't mention Polish death camps.
To sum up, hold your horses. Be open minded.
Don't complain about feeling insulted while insulting others. It may get you into trouble.

@Marino_Kat
And what exactly offended you?
Is there maybe anything in your own posts that others may find offensive? What do you think?
By the way, there are Poles, Americans, Serbs and Brits (did I miss anyone? ) answering your post.
Generally speaking, I assume it's not the first time you're going to go abroad. Just like everywhere else, stay away from trouble and political discussions. We can see you're proud of your country but be open to other views.

Learn something about Poland while here.
Tip: talking about Polish concentration camps won't win you too many friends here.
