I like to be precise with words since they are like a programming code for our brains. And more, the are a cultural "operating system" for the whole society.

And changing one's perception of the world starts with naming.

Maybe we should start changing this perception of "Fatherland"?

Warm, feminine "Motherland" that brings comfort and a sense of maternal security in mind may sound well in times of peace. Hard times, however, demand stronger and somewhat less maternal traits.

Father means ojciec, and Fatherland means the land of our fathers. 'Ziemia naszych ojcow' = Ojczyzna

Motherland points to, well, mother and it refers to 'Macierz', which is not very popular and archaic term dated back to the First Polish Republic few hundred years ago.

Yes, there are graffiti marks in some cities of Poland. Not in my hometown though. We've only got one major football club so there are no groups of competing football fans marking the walls :-). And we've also have an American Football team. Graffti in Poland is in no way related to gangs like it used to be, and maybe still is, in the US.


I tend to avoid public service and I've bought myself a private medical insurance. I don't fancy spending half a day waiting in a line just to receive a sub par treatment. But to be fair British public health service is not better than Polish. I support privatization of Polish health service but this going to be difficult, since many people are scared of fundamental changes.

I agree with you on that. Poland under the occupation of Soviet controlled communism was a prison.

I'm too young to remember but I've heard a lot of stories from my family members. I've also studied this subject and the more I've learned the more anti-communist I became.

Well, I knew that he's British but I've always thought that he was born in Northern Ireland, judging by the accent and the fact he's a redhead :-). Dougpol1 is right, accents are not my strong point. All North British accents sounds very similar to me.

Once I went to my local GP I met a lady from Manchester. She had a very strong accent and I thought she's from Scotland, which she's found it very amusing :-P

I'm not saying that you should. It is just very strange that you are so unobservant.

I know people who react enthusiastically when they arrive to "multicultural London". Many of them get disillusioned pretty quickly, like my friend who was almost sexually assaulted by a group of a young pakistanis on a weekend night, and not on some outskirts of London but in zone 1.

And I also know those who don't like it at all and only came here to make some money and move out asap.

And also those, who thanks to their social and financial standing don't care too much about concerns of a "little men" because they rent flats and houses in a good neighbourhoods and they also don't use public transport. They only ever see a muslim when they turn on a TV news

But that's true you know. I live in London [at the moment] and I can observe it on a daily basis. It is especially visible when you come to London from a predominantly white country like Poland. It just hits in the face like a slammed door, no matter if you're left leaning or right leaning person that's the first thing you'll notice.

That's true that I think that Germany, throughout our common history, was the worst neighbour that we could imagine. And even now German politicians are trying to control Poland, most of the time hiding behind the backs of EU bureaucrats.

And that's also true that I wouldn't cry if Germany has collapsed.

But from a strategic point of view it is better for Poland to have Germany in constant civil war between muslims and Germans than 100% muslim Germany taken over by Turks, African and Middle-easterners. So I would rather see you opposing them while you can. It would gives us more time to prepare.
