USA, Canada / Expat Poles swearing allegiance to the US - how did you feel? [157]

I like to recognize peeps who serve in our country's military. I feel indebted to them.

Your elementary school patriotism is charming:)

We do all the time. We also jump curmudgeons who enjoy all America has to offer while p!ssing on her at every chance. Seriously, GTFO and go back to Poland if you hate it here so much. We won't miss you. And take all that childish Liberalism you're forever spouting with you.

A typical response of a person who doesn't have any rational arguments. I'm sure you got red in the face when you typed it. Now not only your neck is red.

ou killed too SkySoulMate, dont tell me you dont lie awake at night thinking of all those innocent people you bombed to death.

I'm killing too by paying taxes that finance the war. Makes me feel like crap. The whole society agrees silently to killing other people.

Good man. Thanks. ;)

Why don't you get a stamp. You will not have to type it each time.

Why can't people like you, guesswho, and other self-righteous republicans allow other people express their opinion without branding them as evil.

Everyone can salute to the ideals America stands for, not everyone can salute to how those ideals are dragged through the mud and are used as icing for private interest and unnecessary wars.

Life / Made in Poland clothes (Warsaw) [12]

Right now I only can think of a brand called alpinus. They produce sports gear, I found it was always good quality. I think you would be able to get their clothes online. However I'm not sure if the clothes are actually sewn in Poland.

USA, Canada / Expat Poles swearing allegiance to the US - how did you feel? [157]

Why would you swear allegiance to a country you don't support? Is there a way to force a person to swear allegiance?

I felt like a traitor towards both countries taking the pledge. I didn't read the text before the ceremony, and the moment the person leading the ceremony got to the part that you renounce your fidelity to the country you've been a member before I felt like a cheat, but towards both, Poland and he USA. I will always have patriotic feelings towards Poland. It's in my blood. I will always respect the US for letting me become a full fledged citizen. It's like a trust thing, I felt the country had enough trust in me to let me become a part of it, jet I'm not 100% in it with my heart and soul.

History / Effects of Living under Communism in Poland [58]

Living in communism sure trained an instinct in me never to believe what mainstream media are saying.

I also have some organization joining phobia.

And I think once you've experienced living in a miserable society you have easier time understanding disadvantaged groups and not think it's all their fault.

Life / POLISH TEENAGERS TURN TO PROSTITUTION... [77]

Talking about forced prostitution, has anyone seen the movie "Lylia4ever"? I saw it some 3 years ago and it's been still haunting me ever since. Anyone involved in human trafficking should be locked for the rest of their lives.

UK, Ireland / Why British men move to Poland [63]

Do you think those girls are ugly? I'm no man, but I think the girls with the colorful dresses could be attractive to many men.

UK, Ireland / Why British men move to Poland [63]

Well, you don't have to worry about Dutch grooms, because it certainly looks like the Polish are heavier according to this survey!

I just looked at the whole survey. Seriously, the more beer and potatoes in the national cuisine, the heavier the population.

Some of the grooms are not the skinniest either. I hope only the skinny Brits move to Poland, otherwise the 12.5 will go up quicker.

Work / If you were to compere Polish Unis and Unis/Colleges in your country... [75]

I hear the same thing.

I don't think Havok has issues with working at McDonalds. From what I understand he thinks an unpaid internship is better than a paid job at McDonalds. I'm with him on that. If a person doesn't have financial constraints they should always pick an internship, even if it's unpaid. The amount of practical knowledge you can learn "on-site" is really immense. Of course you will do a lot of filing and coffee fetching, but you will see how a company functions, and like Havok said, if you are nice and not picky about the work they give you, at some point someone will notice that you are willing to work and have skills and reward you with better projects. I did 2 unpaid internships when I was going to college in the US. After the second one they offered me a full time job, which I took. So another benefit...

Life / Dzień Świra. ''Day of the madman'' (Polish Cult movie.) [20]

I got it from Netflix as the Day of the Wacko (to the curious American audience who uses Netflix and can't find the Day of Madman

It's a crazy movie. The amount of dog s**t might not be true, but the rest, pretty accurate. Lol

Food / Meatless Wigilia gołąbki? [11]

I've never had gołąbki for Wigilia. Never heard about anyone making them in my region. Is it common in some areas of Poland?

Work / If you were to compere Polish Unis and Unis/Colleges in your country... [75]

I studied in Poland and in the US. There are general differences in the systems, for instance in US you have more flexibility with your schedule, you can switch major easily, but I think the main difference are the professors.

In Poland I had all kinds of crazy jerks and lazy bums, and a few really good ones. The crazies would make you learn every single detail without caring if you really get the big picture and lowering your grade for each insignificant mistake. They were usually men and usually unattractive and arrogant (wearing a mini skirt to the exam could actually help your grade). The lazy buns would come to class, dictate something, you learned it by heart and said it during your exam. Waste of time. The great professors I had were sparse, but they really taught you things, helped you understand the subject and had you draw conclusions. I remember really looking forward to those classes.

Now comparing that to American professors, they are more willing to teach you and are more approachable because they are evaluated by the students, and for as long as they are not in a tenure track positions it really matters. It's less learning by heart and more abut the big picture and making connections. At the ens of the semester you usually have good general knowledge of the subject.

I wish polish professor could be evaluated by the students and peers more. It would bring some of them back to earth maybe.

News / Poland has low murder rate [60]

Murdering is not really part of the Slavic way when it comes to standard motives which drive most serial killers.

The Slavic mothers must know how to love their sons...

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

Well said f stop.. I would even take it further: those who are very concerned abut their looks usually are not so strong on all those virtues.

Po polsku / Tragedia jezykowa, czyli "stay on topic" LOL. [95]

Czy denerwuje Was słowo "wypasiony"? Podczas ostatniej wizyty w Polsce wszystko było "wypasione". Nie słyszałam tego słowa tak nagminnie wcześniej. Nie znoszę go..

But apparently studies have shown that we seek out "round faces" to father our children.

Lots of round faces on Polish man. I don't think though they are fathering more children than the average.
