UK, Ireland / 31 year old Polish man causes accident under influence of alcohol and kills 8 [198]

irrelevant

but it's not irrelevent is it?
There are too many Polish drivers on the road in the UK and its dangerous. There must be a really low standard test, drunk driving is acceptable in a way that it no longer is here, and it needs discussion. Obviously this problem is not relevant for an Australian, but I am not sure why you are being so provinicial about things. Australia is an irrelevance here, but nobody is being that rude to you are they? As I said, cop on to yourself.

Uk is irrelevant and a foreign country

well so is Australia for me but i don't spend my valuable time trawling round forums looking for Australian news to be obnoxious about do I?

that is because i really don't care, whereas you obviously, and I repeat, have a massive chip on your shoulder about the UK

it was a minibus full, comprising a family going on holiday on the Eurostar, and several people going to work, as you said.

ok correction it was a group of family and friends who were going on holiday together. Some of them had jobs in the UK, and some of them were just visiting.

I saw this story this morning. was not surprised when I saw the perp's name, to be honest, not in the least.
Sorry but what is it about Polish drivers? they even laugh about them in Czechia. This is so not a laughing matter though.
Another thing..do u think that maybe when people come to a new country, on some level they almost think that the laws of the land do not apply to them? NOt talking about Polish in Britain now, but as a general immigrant attitude? Like my ex brother in law used to drive around with no insurance, or the other one was always starting on black men when he was drunk? or the way that a certain kind of Brit can behave abroad?

USA, Canada / Polonian or Polish food in America better? [26]

meaning no nasty corn syrup gmos antibiotics hormones and all that nasty stuff.

yes it does seem more wholesome. We also like the sauerkraut and sausages and the soft drinks. Lots of Polish food consumed in this house! That corn syrup gets everywhere, you have to watch out for it.

Yes Krakus is good, isnt it?

[moved from]

I live in the middle of nowhere but my nearest shop is a Polski Sklep.
Just went in and bought a large jar of premium blueberry jam, a large white loaf and some fancy chocolate, all for £3.93!

Study / Studying English in Krakow, private tutors, schools or universities [49]

Like i said in the first place, provincial and old fashioned..:)
Why would/should I or anyone else have heard of these aged/dead Americans?
Its not the American language, its an international language.
I could come up with people that you havent heard of, and shout NEXT at you. But I am not that rude or ignorant..:)

Just sometimes, the native might actually know betterLOL

to be honest, someone that has learnt the language to such a high level is probably going to be better at explaining grammar than a native speaker is.

One university summer school I did, we all doubled up, native/non native, and shared a class. The non native would explain grammar points, the native would do the fun stuff..:) Suited me, (my partner was from Syria...:)

We also had colleagues from France, Greece and Germany. Most of them had just finished the Masters in ELT/applied linguistics course.

its very rare for any student of English to be able to differentiate between accents, let alone have it affect their speaking. has to be clear, of course.

At the level that most of them are at I mean, the ones that attend lessons...:)

Also I have met some amazing people that were excellent English teachers, but not native speakers.
