History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

Were your parents polish? Mickiewicz' were.

Copernicus didn't only write in Polish but he is considered to have been Polish also the point of his father being polish or not is not certain.

No there is no solid proof that he wrote in Polish, he had to due to his job but no evidence survived.

Well, you know the history better than I do but wasn't it just a stopgap measure on a temporary basis? I thought that it was a short-term, strategic move.

The problem with Lithuania is that when it allied itself with Poland being something along the lines of 1/10th of Polands population and 200 years behind on every level it got dominated, thats why their capital became full of Poles etc.

Thats part of the reason relations are sour, thats also part of the reason the great polish writers get hijacked, they dont like Poles but they do like the best of our literature and both men were born on Lithuanian soil so they're Lithuanians obviously!

You know who's the greatest lithuanian hero? Janusz Radziwiłł, possibly the single greatest traitor after Catherine the Greats doorstop aka our king.

Wasn't it Mickiewicz himself who wrote 'my beloved Lithuania'?

Yes because it was his beloved Lithuania in the same manner as Lower Silesia is my beloved Voivodship, there's what? A hundred instances in which he calls Poland his motherland? Probably more.

Kopernik had a german mother and a polish father so there's an argument there but this guy had both polish parents and was born in Lithuania like nearly a milion other Poles who moved there, he spoke polish, he wrote polish so?

Why would they claim they are Lithuanian, Sok? Just think about that.

Chauvinism?

For sure but Piłsudski was still respected for his heroic stance against the Russians.

Sean Piłsudski was The guy who ordered a polish army into the Lithuanian capital to claim it for Poland, Lithuanians hate him, a lot.

Also what stand? Lithuanians were pro soviet in the 1918-20 period.

Besides, they did preserve a lot of Polish elements.

Given that more or less half of pre-1939 structures of Wilno are built by Poles it'd be hard to tear down several districts worth of the city.

I was there in Aug 2009 and they really honour Mickiewicz and Słowacki.

Mainly because they claim Mickiewicz and Słowacki are Lithuanians, ethnic Poles born on Lithuanian soil get to be "honored" by hijacking them? We got a different definition of honoring someone then.

I dare say that Piłsudski would have gotten a mention.

You're kidding right? Lithuanians hate Piłsudski with a passion. he was the guy who gave the green light for invasion of their capital.

To be honest though i can understand Lithuanians to some degree, they did ask for trouble supporting Soviet Russia in 1919 but taking away their capital is big thing.

well, boyo go **** yourself ! No more mr nice for you swearing scunk, you are accually an embarasmend !

And you are an embarassment, what are you Młodzież Wszechpolska?

But those Poles crying about Lwów should concentrate on building Polish cities rather than crying about what they've lost.

Why? So Germans get to cry with their Exiled association but we dont because we're Poles? Stop being such an anti-polish twat son, i hate pricks who use double standards, except myself ofc i get to because i'm me.

That can always change ! I'm taking about rights and what is right !

Booting innocent people aint right, talking and considering booting them aint right you little prick, lord knows i have ukis for an inferior breed of an european, they never contributed, created or built anything noteworthy, they're a bunch of unwashed peasants but they're still people.

I know you contribute or contributed on histmag, i know you're into history to some degree, if you were an ignorant SOB like Seanus or the rest i'd swallow your bull but you're actually knowledgable, even if thats a joke or a provocation you're still a sad little f*ck.

what is happening here today :(

Ironside being a f*cking retard and Nathan being an ukrainian primate.

How am I wrong? Are you really telling me that the core of what Poles regard as their heritage is trapped now in the Ukraine and Lithuania? Part of it, yes. The core??

Exactly, mark you i dont advocate these regions getting back to Poland but you named the problem, part of the core is indeed trapped outside of our borders.

History is shaped by peoples deeds, the land is ours and that is that !

You're an idiot mate, the land was ours, if not for us it'd be two barns and a field but today its someone else' and thats that.

Nobody chooses anyone - we prefer to stay away from cruelty expressed by either side.

You preferred to murdered polish civilians.

and our army

You dont have an army.

we are not losing our soldiers for some other country's benefi

You are losing your soldiers due to desertion and hunger.

Life / Is Poland a place of high culture? [36]

Poles usually claim that polish is a high culture. What do you think?

Its a culturally developed country on par with its western contemporaries and superior to its eastern neighbours.

The Ukrainians have a history of suffering parallel to that of the Poles.

Really? How come? Ukraine have been under the soviet jackboot for about 70 years, Poland was partitioned/occupied by the soviets for almost 200 years and lost more then three times as many people, i dont see any parallels, even the aftermath is different ie Poland developing despite its greater losses, Ukraine deteriorating.

Let's not forget that a lot of the friction between Poles and Ukrainians in the past was because of nearby large nations playing Poland and Ukraine against each other for their own benefit.

Like who? All of the friction was because Ukrainians attempted to take a piece of Poland for themselves, got spanked by Poles for trying and were bitter and jealous because Poland succeeded on every field where Ukraine failed.

I fully support the improved Poland-Ukraine relations of the past 10 years.

So do i, personally though i still can't bring myself to respect Ukraine or its people, bunch of unwashed monkeys that they are.

News / US Military: The Army of Poland is crap. [124]

I hope you realize that technically, it wouldn't make us any big difference but it's nice to have some moral back up though.

It does for Poland, its costs us a fortune and we're getting zip in return. I didnt mean "pull out to show them" i meant it "pull out because it hurts us".

Poland has about 100.000 soldiers in the land forces, having 2800 in Afghanistan costs us the equivalent of upkeep for 15.000 men and our equipment is getting irreperably damaged in afghan conditions when replacing it is no easy matter for us.

I say we leave.

I don`t know what improvement and of what conditions you are talking about in case of Ukraine. If you could, please, give me some examples of single tango, I`ll appreciate it.

80% of revitalisation done in Lwów is done with money from Wrocław for example, if not for our money your country would be an even bigger dump than it already is.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians work in Poland.

If Poland ever wanted to collpse ukrainian economy all it takes is to expell some half a milion ukrainians working here legaly or otherwise and Ukraine is wrecked overnight, the only reason Poland does not is political, ripping Ukraine a new arsehole is not in our interest.

As for economy dont make me laugh, Ukraine has no market atm, Polands exports to Ukraine are pathetically small, you're an economic black hole and the only country that cares about you (Poland) cares about you because you're such a nice buffer zone.

Sucks to be Ukraine :)

Don't know enough to comment, I'll stfu on that.

Belarus aint anti-Polish, its anti-initiative, any initiative and its just so happens that Poles are The most active minority in Belarus so they get most boots.

Life is OK (as much as it can be in a commie state) as long as you play by the rules, belarussian rules suck major arse though.

I will double up on previous posters comments, Belarussians are not a nation, they're a bunch of guys without an identity held together by a local tyrant, give em time and they might or might not develop into a nation, today its completely artificial.

It's a nice place. Roads were well taken care of, greenery was manicured, no graffiti, no trash laying around. I really liked it.

The place has discipline ill give you that but it can be and is reaaally filthy once you're off the beaten track.

Have you ever heard what the Poles go trough in Belarus?

Not much really, life aint roses for them but our media made a case of demonising the issue, at the same time in Ukraine where Poles are really mistreated you get no media coverage of that.

Brest, like Minsk, is in excellent condition

Wait Convex are we talking about the same two cities?

Belarus is one of the cleanest most well taken care of countries that I've ever been to. People are great too. Political system, not so much.

You mean you've been to some alternate reality Belarus? I agree with people but Mińsk is rolling in its own filth, thing i found great initially later not so much is that their meals consist of dinner, dinner and even more dinner.

So much persecution that they decide to stay there...Even though there is a city named "Polack"....hmmm

That depends, Poles are persecuted if they go into politics or celebrate their identity too much, Angelika Borys though is a political wh0re.

Anyway Belarus is much much better off than the dump they call Ukraine.

News / Krystian Legierski - First openly gay Polish elected official [20]

Careful not to let too many of those warm and fuzzy equality comments come out.

Never been much for all that, people are made unequal, you think otherwise? Shoulder Alexander the Great then.

I do not believe politics should administritavely deny access to unsuitable people, there should be social standards in place that do that though, who's unsuitable, well in democracy its up to the people, including me:)

You don't think posting it helps to sway people's opinions on whether "Poles are racist homophobes"?

Not really, between Harry, Delphiaonline and a number of other twats this forum paints Poles in the worst possible colors.

To be honest though the only racist homophobic Pole i know is me.

News / Krystian Legierski - First openly gay Polish elected official [20]

He's gay because he's black, all black people are gay and have AIDS.

Anyway whats the big deal? I'm still a tad confused why a random ***** or a fag in the politics make the headlines, they're people too, as long as they're not some sort of political faction based on skin colour or brownie dipping preferations i'm not troubled at all.

I'm against blacks and gays in polish politics as coherent groups, random individuals are not an issue, let em be.

All we need now is a transvestite elected.

Now that would be an issue.

Sexuality and Race shouldn't come into play at all!

At some point they should, what you are influences how you govern.

Personally i view blacks as a race as inferiors who can't govern themselves or create a civilised society, outstanding individuals of their race do not redeem them as a whole in my eyes especially since they're so few so i definitely would prefer to be governed by white people.

Racist? Probably, but also quite sensible when you look at the sh*tpit black Africa is, i dont mind a random murzyn in the govt tho.
