Work / Salary 18000 pln per month in Gdansk [10]

then cost of international school

It is still possible to go down a little with costs, this school charged 1500 per kid in the previous year

isg.gfo.pl/pl/rekrutacja/oplaty

you wont be saving 8,000 from your net salary, unless you eat rice.

Anything is possible if one is determined. One can even scavenge rubbish bins next to supermarkets and find foods after expiry date. Their family back home in the native country is waiting for this saved money so 8000 PLN is a must in some cases.

Food / Fresh seafood in Gdansk [3]

I almost never see anything fresh like shrimp, crabs, or cod

Edible shrimp or crab don`t live in the Baltic Sea.

As for cod, it is also difficult to find fresh one cause the species is dying out. Lucky fishermen prefer to supply restaurants/supermakets than individual customers at piers, let alone open air markets. Sorry.

Travel / Maybe visiting Warsaw next summer - or to choose Bulgaria? [26]

I'd go to Bulgaria instead of Warsaw.

Hmm, both are great places to go to. Bulgaria for warm seas and sunbathing, Warsaw for shopping and sightseeing. Good alcohols in both.

Life / Any one in need of a bulldog? A dog's life in Poland [39]

We persevered with him, but the dog could not be trusted a

Yes, I am aware of it. My bro in law`s dog is also a little crazy - when he sees other dogs in the street, he goes nuts with baying and barking.

However, as I am usually lucky in life, I hope my choice would be such, too.

Of course, it is a purely hypothetical situation, I am not going to get a dog cause they smell bad and I love independent cats too much. They appreciate freedom just like me, while dogs are too servile which gets on my nerves. :)

Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

As a hint, I could show you another photo at a different angle, but I don`t want to litter without strong necessity so let me only tell you the young man in the green T-shirt was carrying the Union Jack.

Life / Any one in need of a bulldog? A dog's life in Poland [39]

If I ever wanted a dog, I would go to the shelter. Like my brother in law and his wife. After their two little pure breed dogs with big ears died, they went to the shelter and took a dog without a front paw because it was so sweetly miserable.

Language / Spelling of a Polish name? [38]

Juts like some German names are not so easy for Poles. E.g.,Theophilus. How many Poles would be able to spell it correctly ? I suppose zero.

News / Tram line to Warsaw's Wilanów finally to be built. [35]

It seems you are at odds with your family - they dislike Warsaw while you on the contrary. Hopefully, it won`t finish with a serious family feud, not to mention separation or divorce.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

It starts with "Ch..."

Ziem, someone might accuse you of being obscene... :)

I visited once and liked it,

Yes, Chęciny. I think I visited this place 3 times. From 13th century, a ruin since 1707. Very charming and wonderful views.

What was the situation in a big city?

Nope. We visited Gdańsk in 2012 but this trip was afterwards. Gdańsk hasn`t got such ruins.

History / Why do schools teach "The battle of Warsaw" but not "the history of communist Poland?" [16]

One, lets remember that this is the last bit of Polish history and as such quite often gets scipped due to time running out.

Yes, that`s the biggest problem. Curricula are burdened with a lot of material plus teachers lose classes due to school trips, unexpected holidays etc. In result, final periods of history are left out.

What strikes me, is how little social history young Polish people know of the Communist period.

History is one of students` least fav subjects everywhere, not only in Poland.

In most schools here it is just a boring lecture by a bored teacher. When I did a replacement history class for the absent workmate, I took the group to an interactive board classroom and I illustrated the topic with films and photos which I had prepared earlier. It had taken me a lot of time but I saw students were really interested. Many teachers don`t care about arousing students` interest and that is another big problem.

Yes, it is. I had 3 bushes last year. I like the taste, sweet and sour, while my kids don`t. Spoiled brats.

Where was I standing?

History / Why do schools teach "The battle of Warsaw" but not "the history of communist Poland?" [16]

Why is Poland's communist past not on the Matura syllabus,

Doug, what`s wrong with you? Why are you repeating the same song like a broken record?

You asked:

and do not teach the lessons to be learnt from it's totalitarian government recent history? Or does it?

I answered:

Yes, they do.

I later added:

Well, they teach it even in primary school.

The usage of even meant they teach it on all levels of schools. Also Matura exam level. Part 4 of the popular history textbook for high schools covers the period from 1939 to present times.

Please get a grip cause it is very difficult to discuss things with you in your current condition. :):)

What can you see in the cover of the textbook?

News / Tram line to Warsaw's Wilanów finally to be built. [35]

Anyone living in Warsaw able to give an update on the tramway line that was to built from Centrum to Wilanow?

Your question suggests you don`t live in Warsaw. Forgive my curiosity, why do you want to know if they commenced the works?

The project is delayed, but the first tender procedures were to start in April. So, slowly, but sth is happening. Cities have to save their money on other important things, e.g., flunked PiS` reform of education.

History / Why do schools teach "The battle of Warsaw" but not "the history of communist Poland?" [16]

Hmm, firstly, your OP`s question was general and didn`t specify the type of school.

Secondly, why do you focus on high school and disregard primary school? The earlier students get acquainted with the topic, the better. Don`t you think so?

kitchen drama

Hmm, do you mean kitchen sink drama series?

It used a style of social realism, which depicted the domestic situations of working class Britons, living in cramped rented accommodation and spending their off-hours drinking in grimy pubs, to explore controversial social and political issues ranging from abortion to homelessness.

Kitchen drama Westerplatte? Hmm, I don`t know what you mean.... Those defenders of Westerplatte were mostly working class but they didn`t spend off hours drinking......

Well, they teach it even in primary school. I discussed things with my kids when they did the period - in result, they had As in tests. :):)

s there a major film with the subject of how Martial law was declared, I don't recall. And why might that be?

Yes.
E..g, Death Like a Slice of Bread, about the strike and fight of Silesian miners against communist forces after martial law was declared.
