Life / Alcohol problems of Polish people [141]

Drinking it accepted as a way of socializing nowadays. Unfortunately, some people tend to socialize this way too often. At some point, the person may drink at home alone or look for a company at the neighborhood bar. That's all it takes. A "drinking gene" or not.

My father was also drinking - a lot. I should be having the "drinking gene", but I don't think I do. And, I'm never afraid to have a drink when I go to a party.

The 'drinking gene" is just an easy excuse for many and a valid one for a small percentage of true alcoholics.

Love / Is Indian/Polish relationship possible? [370]

I see many and know a couple of American men with Asian women. I'm yet to see one with an Indian woman. However, Indian men are often seen with white women.

I work with a very cute Indian girl of 27 - born and raised in the US almost "throwing" herself at young men the office. No takers so far...

Language / Caring/loving words in Polish? [90]

Te two first ones - my dearest, my beloved,
kotus, koteczek come from a cat - meaning warm and cuddly,
misiaczek is a teddy bear like, only you my teddy bear, again something loved, cherished...
moje szczescie - my happiness.

I can add "tygrysik" as baby tiger...:) and, which man does not want to be called a tiger!

I know it may sound odd in english, but no polish men would mind any of the words.

Life / Do Polish People steal a lot? [330]

Babylon, there are lots of people like your father in the US. Personally, I can't imagine a life in a foreign country without the language, but it can be done. There are polish employers, doctors, dentists, all types of polish stores, restaurants, travel agencies...you name it.

One can live quite comfortably in their own polish world in the middle of a huge, English speaking city... :)

Love / Polish girls attitudes towards sex. [568]

but do all Polish women want to the mirror image of all things USA?

and what would be wrong with that? They may learn to ask for help in cooking and cleaning instead of thinking that's just their job at home. I still see a lot of married polish women who never have time for themselves. They are expected to bring income and take care of the house as well.

I commend the husbands who do help, but many don't.

And...that's why we all wear diamond rings (big ones mind you), we drive the most expensive cars and live in expensive suites paid for by johns (instead of cleaning them), we all wear mink furs and we don't really have to work for a living. :)

Language / Are the languages of Russian and Polish similar at all? [94]

Thanks, I'm desperately trying to find Polish lessons for adults in the Elgin, Il area, but am having no luck

I know it's far, but the only ones that offered polish language lessons are city colleges in Chicago, Wright College for one. Give them a call, they might know more.

Language / Polish or any Slavic language key to any other Slavic languages? [126]

When I was learning English, many words in the dictionary sounded similar, but they were pronounced different. I had French in high school in Poland, so it seemed like the same word could be pronounced different in Polish, then in French and English.

I guess, after centuries of mixing we are a one, big, happy family who sometimes have strong disagreements, but love each other nonetheless.

A lot of words are borrowed from other languages. Everybody in the world seems to know "OK" even tough it is not a part of any language, but English.

Language / Polish or any Slavic language key to any other Slavic languages? [126]

Some words might be similar in spelling. Example?

My Mexican friend gave me a letter to read. I read the words as I would read them in Polish. Most of the words I read sounded like a Mexican would pronounce them. I did not recognize most the words, but I was saying them correct. How about that?

Language / Polish or any Slavic language key to any other Slavic languages? [126]

I think it is true for most languages. If you speak Italian you are more likely to understand Spanish, if you are polish you will understand more Slavic languages. Most of them anyway. If you are from the Anglo-Germanic brood, you should pick up words accordingly.

See the ugly words above? I understand them even tough the last time I had a homework in Russian was in the 70-s.

Love / Polish Girls vs Russian Girls [813]

Geeez, people - chill out. There is no need for anger or insults. Just have your opinions and move on.
...Polish woman or Russian...or German, or English, or Italian - just a matter of taste in looks. All of us end up in the bedroom and in the kitchen anyway!!! And it is fun to be there. Smile. Laugh. Love. :)

Life / Alcohol problems of Polish people [141]

I don't think polish people drink any MORE than other nationalities. They however drink different: mostly on the weekends and to get drunk. I work in American corporate environment and sometimes we go out for drinks. Well, they drink like fish and get pretty loud. In general, most Americans have a drink or two (maybe more) just about everyday. Especially the older ones living alone.
