News / President-Elect of Poland, Duda, rescues Eucharist [45]

Does that include normal married families with children who go to church, and believe that sodomy is wrong and oppose calling sinful conduct a "right"?

They're not normal if they spend their time thinking about sodomy, that's for sure. I'd be slightly worried if my wife spent anywhere near as much time as you do thinking about sodomy!

Where should they be provided -- in a homo brothel?

I'm staggered that you would even suggest that Catholic religion classes should take place in a gay brothel.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Polish tradition, the Church, clergy, PiS and all those alerting others to the libertine threat.

There was a protest not so long ago by disabled children, wasn't there? They also drew attention to themselves and shouted loudly and made a lot of noise.

Anyway, may I remind you that there are plenty of LGBT citizens that also like and follow Polish traditions. Then again, you wouldn't know this, because the only interaction you seem to have with the LGBT community in Poland is on PolishForums.

For one, no other 1.5% minority foists itself on the public with their outrageous pink wig, feather and simulated sodomy parades to the sound of deafening music.

Seems fair to me. They don't damage anything or hurt anyone, unlike the other 1.5% minority that routinely destroys Warsaw every November.

Still, having seen the last march in Poznań, there was a definite lack of simulated sodomy. Rather disappointing, given that Polonius promised there would be.

Law / Just got my permanent resident permit to live in Poland :) [46]

Regarding income or employment - are you talking about people married to Polish citizens or everyone in general?

Everyone. I applied under marriage and they basically made it quite clear that it didn't matter - they wanted the same from everyone.

It may just be that the rules (as per usual) take time to be enforced consistently across the country.

Life / Car insurance in Poland: where's the best place to get it? [19]

Don't insurers here jack up the cost of insurance for having points?

Bwahaha. No :D They don't even ask!

I'd like to insure my no claims bonus but apparently Polish insurance companies don't do that.

They definitely do. The wife and I both had idiotic accidents in the last 5 years and the 60% bonus was protected in both cases. That's with PZU, though. Before anyone says anything, PZU are consistently the cheapest around for some odd reason, and their European breakdown cover is very reasonably priced.

They actually checked the UK in my case, but there wasn't much of a delay - and it was all done in less than 30 days. Allegedly, the ABW and Straz Graniczna checked me out in addition to the criminal checks, but whether they did or not is another question (I have my doubts...).

It could be, although I've heard reports of the same thing happening in Wrocław. Having said that, it wasn't such a bad thing anyway - it meant an excuse to put all my personal files in order. Now, that pesky Polish exam...

.our zloti account just pays the electric bills so does not incur interest. Thanks for reminding me though, I hope others have also read and taken this into account, not good to be caught out.

Yes, it would probably be wise to declare the (minimal, if it's GBP) interest and any gain on investments - if you're in a small place, people do talk.

Article 203.1 of the same act specifies the documents required for such an application, and a proof of income is not one of them, however a statement on tax obligations is required to prove that you have no arrears in terms of tax payments. Additionally, marriage certificate, birth certificates of children if any, and ID of the spouse will be required.

I can tell you what is actually happening on the ground - while proof of income isn't officially required, the various offices have been applying a blanket rule to everyone and asking for work histories. I've had some discussions with people (including Migrant Info Point here in Poznań) - and the general consensus is that while it might not be strictly legal, it will take a challenge to the administrative courts to change that practice. They've also been asking for criminal checks to be conducted, which again shouldn't be conducted according to the legislation.

News / President-Elect of Poland, Duda, rescues Eucharist [45]

The right-wing media making a meal of the Dud picking a wafer up just underlines that.

It says a lot about the credibility of such media. Picking a wafer off the ground is somehow noteworthy in their world.

It would be interesting to know how much that Church has cost to taxpayers and more generally how much money the RCC in Poland gets from taxpayers. At the same time, at Centrum Onkologii there is periodically lack of some medication, a lot of retired folks cannot buy their prescriptions and some people just survive.

One number that I've seen thrown around is that the RCC is paid around 1.2 billion zloty annually for providing religion lessons in schools, for instance.

Can we stick to the topic

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

Being stubborn to new ideas or refusing to learn how to things the correct way, thats true. I had to fire a few guys for not wanting to listen or do things my (correct) way. Like refusing to use an American tape measure, we use inches over here not metric.

Actually, you don't. All American forms of measurement are defined in SI (metric) units. In Science, metric rules.

I Wonder how much all this thing has cost to taxpayers? Do Polish people need this rather than better hospitals and other insfrastructures? I am not sure ;);)

A ridiculous amount of money. It's scary how much money the RCC has taken out of Poland in the last 25 years.

Law / Just got my permanent resident permit to live in Poland :) [46]

I think the tax record is enough in this case - if your investments were enough to live on, then it's more or less identical to having worked.

I am proud of the fact that in the 5 or so years I have been in Poland I have not worked for a minute or earned a cent!!!(grosz).

That works as well, but retired people are treated differently. Anyway, a letter from the chief of police is worth its weight in gold ;)

When we arrived our Polish bank asked us if we wanted to be considered as 'paying tax in another EU country' we filled a form and are thus considered as such. We have paid local taxes

Hmm... be careful with that. You should be paying tax on the interest in the bank account, and you should definitely declare all your income to the taxman here.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

People in Poland look at those who are frothing at the mouth and ranting about same-sex marriage inevitably leading to people being forced

Yes, you're definitely right. The vast majority of sane people will see people like Biedron actually standing up for them, while the foaming mentalists have done absolutely nothing for them. The logical conclusion is that LGBT citizens are good, while foaming raving mentalists are clearly bad.

Fortunately, there's no chance of the IV RP happening. Even PiS have more or less forgotten about the whole idea, not least because it's completely unelectable.

Let's not forget that much of the anti-LGBT stuff coming from PiS was just for the consumption of the media and the uneducated classes and not backed up with any real intent.

but if in the past 5 years the EU citizen married to a Polish national didn't work in Poland...what will happen? Will not be may grant the PR?
Do the administration ask for financial resources when applying PR?

Yes. You need to prove that you've been working in Poland regardless of the method of applying, and this information is cross-checked with the tax office. If you've been working "online" and staying out of the Polish tax system, expect a negative decision. The work information is used to collaborate your presence in Poland for the last 5 years.

It is not necessary that one prove to have a job, sufficient resources, health insurance and so on under the law.

It most certainly is. The Polish authorities want to see these things.

Can I ask why you seem to be obsessed with the idea of citizenship and permanent residency in Poland? Aren't you a Spanish citizen?

and its going to be something like 200 to 300 euro each month.

Not so high. Rather 100 Euro in the beginning, the so-called "reduced rate".

Anyway, I'm speaking to the guy via e-mail and it's all legitimate.

News / Poland's President-Elect Duda leads in public trust - CBOS poll [185]

Apparently he was employed there but that doesn't mean he was personally involved in every case.

He was an under-secretary, which means that he had ministerial-level involvement with the Ministry of Justice. That's slightly different to merely being "employed" there.

The main thing now is that the Duda-Szydło tandem will help sweep away all the post-commie and post-Platformer crud, grime and slime still contaminating Poland's public scene.

You're still avoiding the core point, which is that Duda was an under-secretary in the Ministry of Justice at the time of some unbelievable interference in the legal system by politicians.

Duda was and always will be a puppet.

Travel / Driving in Poland, are there any rules at all? [149]

Secondly, the guide books emphasise that foreign registered cars are particularly targeted by thieves in Poland.

Nah, there are plenty of Poles driving foreign registered cars.

Did you drive in Ireland when people were driving on provisional licenses? If so, Poland's not much worse. I'd compare it very much to Ireland of around 15 years ago, to be honest. In general, drive defensively - rules simply aren't obeyed, but that can also be to your benefit. You don't have to worry about your speed (or check your speedo constantly) too.

What you should bear in mind is the tendency of Poles to overtake in stupid and dangerous situations. Keep an eye on your mirrors, and if someone behind looks like he wants to kill himself, ease off and let him overtake (and he will, probably in a dangerous and idiotic manner - so ease off even more when he overtakes you). Likewise, if you're on a single carriageway road, pay attention if you're the first car in a line - people will also be overtaking like morons when coming the other way.

But it's great fun to drive here - driving rules are relaxed, no-one is going to stop you for not using an indicator or other ridiculously petty things. Just don't break the major rules (jumping red lights, for instance) and relax. It's worth pointing out that most of the country is now connected via motorway anyway, so it's not so bad.

Law / An international student in Poland wants to stay here permanently and get Polish citizenship [23]

Delph, how many Brits are drawing benefits from the EU countries they reside in?

Only a small point, but you could've received up to 7000zl had you paid the right amount of sickness insurance. It's too long winded to explain here, but the maternity/paternity payouts depend very much on your contributions as opposed to being set at a fixed level. If you were employed, you'd get 80% of your salary.

You seriously, believe, Poland is going to kick me out of the country and pay for the upkeep of my child?

No, what would happen is that all these non-EU citizens would be suddenly required to comply with the same rules as the rest. It's no big deal for those of us actually established and with legal paperwork here - but there are untold amounts of Brits all over the EU that simply haven't bothered with any local formalities, especially in Spain.

Can you honestly imagine Margaret and John turning up at Malaga Airport and being told "We need to see proof of your income, health insurance and oh yeah, you've only got 3 months here?". It would be a nightmare - and so the UK would inevitably do a deal with the EU to protect freedom of movement of everyone.

Off-Topic / Polonophobe Alert: JIGGLE (@JIGGLEIN on Twitter) [12]

Those pictures make me incredibly sad and yet incredibly relieved.

Sad because I thought the UK was beyond this kind of knuckle dragging nonsense, but relieved because they're not in Poland.
