Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

Now, while many Poles get together for drinks, work closely together in their workplaces, cheer on their national teams etc etc.

That is one of the traits of Polish character and you won`t change it. Poles tend to be reserved towards strangers and it takes time to get to know the person and become friends. We are not as false as Americans with their Whassss up, man! and other bullshit. :):):):):):)

It was discussed in other threads. Did you forget?

I'm hearing more and more that Poles want to leave.

Certainly not because of Polish character traits.

Shops are the best places to witness silent hostility (a nice paradox).

I like shopping and do it a lot with my family. I didn`t notice anything what you are talking about. Man, you didn`t live in communism here, you don`t know how rude people could be to each other. I did and comparing the past with the present, I must say the changes are very positive.

As a teacher, I am in regular contact with a lot of people as part of my job.

Typical of Poles again. Complaining, even when things go well, is our favourite hobby. Putting the blame on others, too, is a popular trend here. You can see it well in history threads - it wasn`t Poles who did it but russians, Germans, Czechs, Ukrainians etc. :

Being successful in your job means channeling your energy into it and not tiring yourself out with negativity.

You are right, of course, but explain it to pessimistic Poles and teach them to change their ways

Good luck! :):):):)

PS. In the same way I will try to teach Scots how to stop being tightfisted.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

Russia has always been an empire. Yes, Russians conquered and subjugated many smaller nations. But that was a typical way to run a state in the past. Bigger fish ate smaller ones. Poland was created in the same way. The tribe of Polanie conquered other Slavonic tribes in the area. Simple.

You say it is Russian greed. I don`t think so. Russians were once subjugated by Mongols. They threw the yoke off, but never regained the peace of mind and have felt some internal urge to expand their territory in order to reduce the risk of becoming slaves again. And it worked twice quite well - during Napoleon and Hitler invasion of Russia/USSR. The vast mass of land saved Russia from another subjugation.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

Lwów will be in Poland again no doubt about that but first we have take care of these post Soviet lithuanian monkeys and take Wilno back.It is going to be much easier task and will give us necessary experience regarding deportation of foreign individuals and administration of liberated territories.

Nice provocation. :):):):)

BTW, who do you mean by we? :):):)

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

I don`t question it. :):):)

However, if I am able to talk about and admit the German past of Wrocław, Gdańsk and Szczecin, I expect the same from Ukrainians - an acknowledgement of Polish contribution in Lwow. :):):)

That is why I don`t understand what your problem with my statement is: Lwow is an Ukrainian city with the Polish past.

Love / Should I bring gifts? - help with a Polish wedding [46]

Delph, I agree with Marynka.

I am sure nowadays people prefer to spend the gift money on what they really want and like. In the communist past it was different- there were no goods in shops so receiving a toaster or a fridge was a pleasant surprise, especially that there were only two or three types of fridges available.

Today, you can choose from tens or even hundreds of types.

It doesn`t make sense to try to make people happy against their will.

Why am I talking about fridges? When I got married, my inlaws gave us a sum of money which was spent on a fridge we liked. And it is still working after all those years! :):):):)

PS. Two years ago when my only nephew was getting married we gave them 1376 zlotys in an envelope.

Life / How many Jewish people live in Poland? [145]

As far as I can tell, the only publications where Poles are "wronged" are the same ones which would "wrong" Jewish people in Poland.

Hmm, not only. :):):):)
I have just read Gutman`s Resistance, quite famous, and was a bit disappointed with his undercover anti-Polish stance. I will elaborate on it in a seperate thread after I reread the book and prepare quotes.

Midas

Isn`t Midas Turkish?

Rogalski

Isn`t Rogalski from PiS?

I'd love to meet a Jewish Pole - reveal yourselves!

Ask Ironside.

Life / How many Jewish people live in Poland? [145]

=ShortHairThug]Most of the Jewish posters here are hatemonger themselves, skillfully manipulating and stirring **** up.

Wow, how many Jewish posters do you know here? :):):):)

I know only one poster who has Jerusalem in his profile. And he is quite reasonable.

=ShortHairThug]wherever I look all I see is slander and outright attack on us Poles by the Jewish community..... Open your eyes,

If that is all what you see, you must definitely go to an eye doctor. :):):):)

Contrary to you, I don`t have a problem with my eyes. :):):)

I didn`t see it "wherever" when I was in America 20 years ago.

Because I live in Poland and have no contact with Jews, I must rely on the written word. Yes, there are Jewish publications in which Poles are wronged but there are also fair ones.

=ShortHairThug]his forum is a microcosm of a much wider world that exist out there

The world of guys like Sokrates? :):):):)

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

=MediaWatch]Just shove those extra Poles into Germany and Russia and Poland would be defacto annexing those parts of those countries the way Germany has done to Poland and Russia has done to Eastern Ukraine.....and how China is doing it to Russia in southern Siberia, Mexico is trying to do in the southern United states, etc.

And Albanians in ex-Serbian Kosovo.

This is called reconquest and must be treated seriosuly because precedents proved it might be successful.

Bottom line is Poland needs nukes and/or chemical and bacteriological weapons to be respected and feared. And to make sure that nobody messes with us or face annihilation.

Oh, my God. How frustrated one needs to be to say such things? :):):):)

=grubas]No, it's tomorrow's battle.

Don`t be silly. The case is closed. No Pole will go and fight for Lvov.

Life / How many Jewish people live in Poland? [145]

Not quite.

The average Polish attitude to Jews is neutral. On both extremes are fanatic anti-Semites (Sokrates) and Jew-lovers (me). The problem is that whenever antisemites utter their mad hatred, it reverbarates in media all over Europe and the world as an example of "typical" Polish anitsemitism.

Language / Double meanings, Polish slang and embarrassment [49]

=isthatu2]They're over there putting polish on their Polish boots"........:)

One of the funniest things of ELT in Krakow region class:

Boots sounds the same as Polish buc [buts}- taboo word which is stronger than asshole. Whenever I teach this word in lower grades, we can`t stop laughing for a few minutes.

Life / Struggling young Polish couple - try to solve their problem [176]

=f stop]what I'm trying to say is that owning a home today seems like a hindrance, handicap, bind.. We should be more mobile and carry less sh!t along.

Sorry but you are talking nonsense. People take loans and buy property to avoid paying high rent which is money thrown down the drain. After two or three decades of rent paying in Poland, you could buy a flat with it.
