News / Nigel Farage voice of reason for Poland and EU? [79]

He's a man on a mission! He appears on this major segment.

Gordon Brown was booted out, quite right! A World Constitution, LOL. That man needs a hefty boot in the nuts. A moron, just like Blair.

Love / Need Advice: I have fallen in love with a Polish woman... [65]

So she escaped without even trying any salvage operation? Wow, what a great Catholic. In Scotland, the most common cause of divorce is 'irretrievable breakdown of marriage'. It's not that easy to prove. You have to try all sorts to keep the relationship alive.

She could likely love countless other men too, right? She still has a decision to make, otherwise you'll just be tagged along.

She can't make a decision says it all, really. Even if she said yes to marrying you, you'd be with a woman with baggage. Is that what you want? Sorry, I have trenchant views on marriage and to part with my wife would be anathema to me. Why did I marry? For many good reasons. Retaking vows is also a sensible thing. Marriage is another contract that needs to be worked on, like having a kid. That's why, prima facie, I'm against divorce and abortion but they are complicated issues that don't call for the taking of black and white positions.

What kind of advice were you expecting?

Some do and some don't, BB. I've heard Poles say great things about their country and some terrible things. It just depends who you ask.

Catholics are just people, of course they get divorced ;) ;) However, a court decree is onerous and involves some cost on her side.

Well, she's off to a bad start from what I can see. Wouldn't you say? Does she care what her offspring say?

Mods, please step in. This is EXACTLY the kind of thing I was talking about. I am gonna take this to Admin and insist that a stand be taken as this is just taking the mickey.

She has a husband, for crying out loud! If she is any kind of Catholic at all, she will honour that. I'm not a Catholic but learned the morality of faithfulness LONG ago without any church.

This is one highly educated man. He should be the man that Poland appoints to keep them away from any future slides. Otherwise, grinning cheetahs and back patters will rule the roost and trigger a demise.

I will be following his future statements and I encourage others to take heed of his various messages.

Travel / Poland-My 9-day experience [239]

Denmark, NI and Spain seem to come out as the 3 most racist countries in Europe, according to polls. Germany? Against Turks, maybe. The indifference of Poles lowers their racist rating. Given that few colored folk live here in relation to other European countries, it isn't really a major talking point.

It is similar in ways but I wouldn't say it's so overt. At football matches it is and Britain stamped that out quite some time back.

Well, carp has a fitting anagram but I like the uszki (little pierogi) that go with red borsch.

Convex, it could be 10 mins of being here and being in the wrong place at that time.

They tend to run their mouths but back down come the critical moment, I've heard. I've only had one episode where my friend went behind me as a bouncer was pursuing him. I looked at the bouncer with a look that said, 'just you try it, pal'. We had the bigger numbers on that occasion.

I think you just got unlucky, convex. It was night time, after all. They do see skin colour quite a bit but rarely get violent over it.

Try telling a Berliner (not a donut) called Deitler that. He said even Polish bureaucracy is friendlier. If that's the case, I never want to visit German offices. He was a staunch critic of his own country and loves his business here in Szczecin (Stettin).

Is it because those Poles haven't returned those cars to Germany? ;) Or was it that too many Germans got disillusioned through having to haggle to get their motor back when in Poland? ;) ;)

Exactly! Some are this and some are that, end of story :) :)

I might be visiting Dresden in December. Either there or Salzburg in Austria. I look forward to hearing a different language again.

Hehehe, good try! Nah, that's where the truth came in to my post, the Other :) :) It cannot really be denied that it's quite easy to find.

It's a bit like teaching, right Davie? I mean in that you cannot really test sb if they don't know the criteria on which they are being tested. An observer did that to me and I just blankly ignored her based on that and her overly authoritarian stance. Poland is not trying to pass a test in the way that others are presenting.

Let's imagine that a Manhattan (NYC) resident comes to his assigned area of Poland and then starts moaning about the lack of McDonalds. Is that fair? Hardly! Poland can be influenced by different countries but not moulded into their conception fully. Let them be, they've endured 43 years of commie rule and are into the dreaded aftermath.

No, I merely see them as phrasal verbs, derived from Old Norse, which are accepted in most circles.

By today's standards?? Overemphasise? Nah, just emphasise :) :) I was highlighting this text.

OK, back to the thread. Polish wędliny (cold cuts/meat) and nabiał (dairy), simply of a very high quality indeed! As a Scot, that's a compliment as we have really good stuff too. It makes for an interesting table as they have so many types.

I second that!! Go in with an open mind and remember your guest status. Poland has so many good features and positive minds will see that :)

Songbird, zetigrek writes very well in English. Have you ever tried writing in Polish?

You want to play that game? What does 'seemely' mean? Seemingly I'd say. 'Torq, you of all people should know this!!' Then your next sentence.

You don't turn up friends, you turn up to their place or drop by. I'll refrain from correcting your typos.

See, it's not nice, is it?

Anyway, back to the thread. Which foreigners here have been invited to a Polish family for a meal? It's a great experience! Some hard-hitting discussions, super food&drink and also a chance to think in a different language.

Bzibby, I suggest you quit with the aggro or you could find yourself off the board quicker than you could ever imagine! Thanks :)

To some it sucks and to others it doesn't. To me, some sucks and some doesn't but I don't put her down for voicing her opinions. Some are just better placed to comment but she was only here for a short time and you must bear that in mind. Stop attacking her!

Now, what part of Poland do you live in again? Please describe the life there.

I think we should always remember that our opinions are largely formed from being in one region of the country. I have made reference to this in recent posts of mine. Gliwice is conservative and that must be borne in mind. Which part of Poland do you live in, Bzibby?

Davie will back me up on this. When I went to Glasgow, there is a different atmos there. Aberdonians are not the same. Folk from Edinburgh are different too. The same applies to Poland.
