News / Prime Minister in Krynica on European integration [53]

=Ironside]Question is are majority of Poles brainwashed enough to support the EU and her puppets.

Yes, we are! Don`t you know that the Polish support for EU at about 80% (the highest in EU, probably) has been steady for years?????

Fortunately. :):):):)

Ironside, it is not 80% Poles who are brainwashed. It is you who is brainwashed. Don`t you realise this? ??????

You have a good brain laundrette there in US?????

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

=Mr_Chips]Here is a first person history of a Jewish woman in the Underground from that region.

Hey, when you give sources, would you be so kind as to read them first?

You gave a link to the report of a jewish man, not woman.
What is worse, he didn`t work for the Underground in the region of Skalbmierz but in Kraków where he pretended to be Polish.

Yes, according to what he wrote, he was in the Polish underground because he was blond and could be easily taken for an Aryan. How many Jews were so lucky? Do you think Jews were able to form a successful guerilla resistance near Skalbmierz in 1944? That they defended the town in which the Holocaust had taken place in 1943 and no local Jews were spared?

Skalbmierz is about 60 kilometers from Krakow and the partisans who fought Germans there were from AK and BCh.

=Mr_Chips]Jewish community, many of whom joined the Underground.

Many? So far, we have one. More sources, please. :):):):)

=Mr_Chips]This being the case, my comment that the Partisans were probably Jewish is valid, your ridiculous reply is not.

After my explanation, do you see how valid it is? :):):):)

Read more about Republika Pińczowska.

=Mr_Chips]We can take up conversations on Polish German relations on another thread if you wish.

I`d rather not. As I said, I don`t have time to educate you. :):):):)

=RetroDog]Poland owns Russia Katyń, doesn't it?

I thought Katyn Massacre was ordered by Stalin who was Georgian, wasn`t it? And his communist assistants of various origin.

Do you know that the oldest mass graves in Katyń were from early 1930s when communists organised first purges in Soviet Russia? I don`t remember the exact numbers which I once read about Katyn but a few thousand for sure.

Love / Was the strict Polish family the reason for our break-up? [20]

I was merely stating that family values play an integral role here. There is no getting away from that.

You are wrong.

Or better, you are mistaking two things. Young Poles have been independent for too long to listen to what their parents tell them. The matter of their agreement or disagreement to their kids` private business as marriage is totally irrelevant for your people in today`s Poland.

I don`t believe that girl is so dependent on her racist parents. If she was, she wouldn`t have started going out with that boy at all.

Seanus, isn`t it obvious?

Love / Was the strict Polish family the reason for our break-up? [20]

=noreenb]She just made her decision based on something you don't understand yet.
Did you ask her what was the real reason?
It's just a first safe excuse that came to her mind I think.

Exactly. That`s what I first thought, too. Family objection was just a pretext.

Sorry, after a short period of fascination, she realised it wasn`t what she wanted.

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

I see there is some much needed re-education here, but it can be saved for another thread.

Can your reeducation of us be saved for another forum at all? :):):):) It is mental fast food, Chips. :):):):)

E.g.,

I have a strong hunch that the partisans you are referring to are actually Jews, not Poles.

Are you talking about this?
The town of Skalbmierz to the north of Krakow was one of many Polish settlements which experienced the horror of pacification during WW2. It was raided by joint German-Ukrainian forces (about 900 men) on 5 August 1944 while the Eastern front was close. Germans wanted to punish the town for its too close ties with partisans. Actually, the whole region of Pińczów was partisan infested. It is the land known for tough people, in the rest of Poland they are called Penknives, almost as tough as Highlanders.

I have a strong hunch that you watched too many Hollywood movies about Jewish partisans... :):):)

Simply speaking, don`t be silly. I have just started a new school year, gonna work really hard, I won`t have time to deal with such idiots who have never read a good history book in their miserably idiotic lives and their knowledge comes from Mel Gibson movies. :):):)

Simply speaking, can you spare us your idiocy?

You should assume it, because it is, sort of.

Why are you telling me what I should assume? :):):):)

Look, average Pole`s knowlegde of Latvia is zero.

So, how can a Pole assume that Latvia is a poor bleak country?

Latvia is completely neutral to an average Pole while Poland`s image in Westerner`s eyes is mostly negative.

Can`t you still see the difference? ):):)

Teffle]You are missing the point a bit Pawian.

I think it is the opposite. :):):):):)

Somewhat of a black page in Polish history.

Black?

Bleak, rather. Look at that bleak picture of the Orthodox church again

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

For many people they almost all blend into one nondescript mass of former Soviet, bleak, relatively poor countries with cold winters.

This comparison isn`t too correct.

If I don`t give a shet about Latvia and I am not interested in it, at least I don`t assume apriori it is a bleak poor country with cold winters. I am just perfectly neutral , like most Poles.

What an average Westerner thinks about Poland is exactly that - poor dull country with polar bears walking streets in winter.

Or as I said, maybe about as interested as the average Pole is in Latvia.

I have just explained the difference.

Life / How can I make Poland a better country for all? [10]

Also, do you think that in 5 years time Poland will be as developed as Germany? Norway? Switzerland? Canada? New Zealand?

50 years is more realistic.

What can I do? I always try to save electricaty and water. I never pollute the streets. I always throw my garbage in a trash can. So, what can I do.

Sorry, it is not enough.

Do you segregate your rubbish? Metal, paper, plastic?

What about organic waste? Do you make compost with it?

What about fuels? Do you ride a bike or walk more than drive?

What about animal friendly cosmetics? What do you do to save rabbits and monkeys from cruel experiments?

What about ozone layer? How do you try to protect it?

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

^ Isn't that in the same spirit as the oft repeated (with shrugged shoulders) "To jest Polska?"

You can say: We had a war, don`t you know? instead. :):):):)

And that is one of the reasons why Poland is like that today. War devastated this country and its people and we still suffer the consequences. Fekking Germans and Soviets! It is their friggin fault, they invaded Poland in September 1939! They are to blame.

Exactly, it isn`t only in Poland where people try to shift the blame onto others.

I have just come across an article about 3 drunk British soldiers who hijacked a boat in France and raided the lake where fishing competition was organised. They crashed into 5 boats.

And what?:

See who`s to blame:
Organiser Aurelien Mouchel said: 'It was a total disgrace. There were 45 boats involved but, because five could not put to sea on Sunday, we had to cancel the event.'

A spokesman for the ASA said: 'Everything has been blown out of all proportion. No charges have been levelled against the men. They borrowed the boat without the owner's consent, if you can call that stealing.'

Language / word usage, obstawać/odrzucać [9]

It is the same expression in different situations

With

co był chciałbyś'

you can ask your partner what kind of drink she would like.

'co sobie pan życzy'

A waiter addresses cutomers in an expensive restaurant.

=chaza]would you like anything else' i would say ' czy podobasz coś inny'

It is rubbish, indeed. Don`t depend so much on cheap electronic translators. Use your brain.

=Mr Grunwald]You can put your pałac kultury in your arse!

Do you desire to see my death?

=Mr Grunwald]Stalin gave the Polish commies the plans and then they had to make Poles build it. What a gift!

Check your sources. :):):)

Go to the fountain site near the Centenial hall/the zoo. Music and light effects.

Travel / A short trip to Krakow. Inexpensive, cultural, historic, with lots of nice women? [5]

=Woodsy21]Can anyone tell me their experiences and advice/tips on going to Krakow please?

Go on a ballon trip to see Krakow and its main sites within an hour or so. That should perfectly do.

=Woodsy21] there are lots of nice women looking to pick up guys.

The rest of your time in Krakow you can spend looking for nice women, indeed.

Go on a ballon trip to see Krakow and its main sites within an hour or so. That should perfectly do.

Here are prices:

And a warning: someone shoots at the balloon with a bow or crossbow. Not too often, though.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

Here's a chance to admit you are wrong, pawian. Prove to Avalon you can do it.

No fekking way, Seanus!!!

It was your fekking mistake to write Wp, instead of using the full quote!!!

I can`t be frigging held responsible for your laziness, you old lazy bones!!!

:):):):):):):):):)

=Seanus]I was talking about wielki pan, not Wielki Polak. I tend to like Wielki Polak's posts.

Improve your system or you will cause more misunderstandings!!!

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

Why? I think Wielki Polak`s contribution here is OK. He only dares to disagree with other foreigners who agree with Avalon. That`s why he should get off?

That`s unfair.

(When you talk to a lawyer, he/she tells you its a WASTE OF TIME} why do I have to pay (in time and money) for people who have no idea what they are doing?.
Untill Tusk, and whatever stupid government in Poland, realises, what a hell it is to, actually do business here, it will always be a backward country.

Avalon, I have read your post again.

I think I wrongly accused you of lying. I am sorry. You could have gotten such perception during your stay in Poland, indeed.

But I will say it again then: it is a Polish style of life.

Why?

Poles are quite messy and forgetful on everyday basis. It is our national character. I myself am such - I often forget to check mailbox, take some books to school, phone somebody, bring the printed tests on the appointed day, etc etc. I forget to buy things that my wife asks me to, and she usually forgets to do what I want her to do. :):):):)

And there are millions of people like that in Poland. :):):):)

Now, do you imagine holding everybody responsible for their petty mistakes? Do you imagine what further mess it would create? Who should take the erroneous to court if nobody is perfect and himself/herself can be taken by others?

Isn`t it clear now why proving someone`s irresponsibility is bad manners in Poland and provokes surprise and shock?

That is why I got a little irritated by your OP. It seemed to me like an attempt of trying to convert a rhino into an elephant overnight, while the process will have to take lightyears. :):):):)

Pushing and pressing will not do any good.

History / 15.08.1920 - without Hungarians there would be no miracle at the Vistula - Poles remember [15]

=gumishu] there was some humanitarian aid from Poland to Hungary in the times of the Hungarian Uprising which is quite surprising from a Soviet puppet communist ruled country - I wonder how the POlish communist got away with this)

Yes, I agree with you. Despite communism which tried to penetrate into every sphere of life from 1945, Poles didn`t fear and acted very noble in 1956. We can be proud of that. Spirit of 44!

Polish solidarity with Hungarians:

Student guards in front of a Hungarian flag with words: Tribute to Hungarian nation.

Poles gave blood for Hungarians

Loading blood onto transports

Humanitarian aid transports

Rally in support of Hungarian revolution, you can see Hungarian flags and banners

Hands off Hungary!

Polish papers encouraged to collect supplies for Hungarians

In 1970s Polish opposition hung such banners: We remember Hungary 1956

The most moving symbol of Polish attitude to Hungarian revolution was a poster - it presents a pidgeon/eagle? shedding a tear.
Very touching.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

=Avalon]Many people on the forum know that I am a developer. If you bothered to check, you would see pictures of my projects.

I am not many.
Do you really crave for fame so much that you expect everybody to know you are a developer? :):):)
Come on, there are many developers in Poland. :):):)

I would like to see pawian call me "Darling" to my face.

I will call you darling into your face, you can call me what you want and we will see whose face will last longer.

Meet me tomorrow in Błonie grassfield opposite the Cracovia Stadium. I finish work in a nearby school at 14.40, so I will be waiting for you at 3 pm.

PS. Your overbearing reaction to my inquisitive posts only proves that you are a very frustrated guy.
I pity you, in fact.

Life / Feasibility and cost of a bicycle in Krakow? [13]

Hi All,

How feasible is to buy a bicycle in Krakow? what will be the average cost of decent one..?

Is it feasible to commute by cycle for daily up n down to office..based on pollution/road condition/climate..??

Prices start from 500 zlotys for a simple supermarket bike, through 1000 zlotys for a better supermarket one, to 1400 for a normal bike in a bike shop.

You can also buy a good second hand bike for 800-1000 zlotys which normally would cost you 1600.

On average, prepare 1000 zlotys.

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

we owe nothing,

Really? What about the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw?
That wonderful construction was built by Russians as a gift to Poland.

Look at its futuristic shape:
It plays a very important role in Warsaw.
