Food / Poland known for their sweets? [67]

Krówka in hand :) :) 5.90PLN for 300g is a little steep but they are hand-made and high quality. 1.50p, all in all, is not that bad a price for what you are getting. My diet was going so well too ;)

News / Nigel Farage voice of reason for Poland and EU? [79]

Crow, do you know of Nigel Farage? He is an ambitious politician who is not afraid to speak his mind. He is against the EU accruing powers to itself and fights tool and nail for democracy.

Love / What are Polish Women like? Just started to date one. [256]

Oh, undoubtedly it is. You have the right to insist on him carrying out his paternal duties more fully and honouring his commitment to you. You have to lay down the line and even issue an ultimatum. Otherwise, a status quo will emerge quicker than you know it. If you let it happen, he will continue. She needs to be put out of the picture from what I can tell.

Oh, the Catholic thing is just a label. I've asked many why they are Catholic and they don't even seem to know what it means. There is no clear vision of it as a denomination.

Well, she might feel hard done by but I'm just guessing. There are those that feel so peeved with their lot that they will go and do things like that. Pretty much anything goes when they don't get their way.

Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

True enough. My wife is a manageress in the travel industry and she uses 'last minute' all the time. It's like 'all inclusive', only true buraks don't know what it means.

It is bad to go after what you want if it's unreasonable, harms others and is downright unethical. Hitler tried it and look where it got him ;) ;)

What steps were taken to salvage the marriage? That's more of a constructive question.

Plus, your husband did sth which, on the surface of it, appears to be completely unethical. Marriage is a long-term endeavour which has to involve concerted effort on both sides. I have heard that some Polish women throw a lot to the wind when they are abroad but they are just stories, usually told by disgruntled people. It's certainly not a Polish trait to break up marriages, far from it.

Travel / Poland-My 9-day experience [239]

There tends to be more drunk and desperate people in the east of Poland. It's a hapless plight for them. I see quite a few drunks here but its standing out depends where you are from. I saw many more in Scotland so it isn't striking for me at all here. There's very little staggering around, unlike in Scotland.

Love / Are Polish Women cold and aloof? [249]

Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't. It depends on their moods. I'd say that, in general, they are colder but it all depends where they are and who they are with. In administrative offices, it goes with the territory. In pubs, they open up and gibber away quite the thing. C'est la vie!

Polish sweets are really good :) :) Krówki is like our fudge in the UK. Zuzola sweets are nice too. I love the ones with a liquor filling :)

News / POLISH GAS RESERVES [40]

Try and learn a lesson from Scotland. Look how they have managed their gas over the years, David. There are case studies available.

Ach, they are known to be looser when they travel. This is true of nationals everywhere, they loosen up.

Which part of Poland is that, Thayli? Maybe you should teach how to queue, you know, the etiquette side of things :) :)

Life / Who's Leaving Poland? [138]

Oh, you could easily get away with not paying here. It's a bit more like Cheers in Britain. Closed-knit, small taverns tend to be the 'norm'. Also, crisps and peanuts just aren't popular here like they are in GB. S&V KP :) The range of crisps in the UK is virtually second to none.

Life / Who's Leaving Poland? [138]

Eh, yes and no. It has the same stature as in TCR but the difference, I'd say, is that in TCR they go all out to drink. In Britain, you can eat and play darts, pool etc etc. I didn't see that that much in TCR and I've been there 3 times. There is some common ground for sure.

Life / Who's Leaving Poland? [138]

Yeah, the pub culture is different. It's more of a communal affair back in Britain. The pub is like an institution. The owners tend to take more pride in their business and treat regular locals a fair bit better. Besides, money tends to be paid upfront, unlike here where a tab is built up and some add-ons are annexed to the bill. They fairly capitalise on the drunk here whereas they know they will get a certain amount of income back home from a regular drinker so don't try it on.

Think of all those juicy pies and pints of top ale. Think of reading some Sunday papers whilst kicking back. Think of a cosy fireplace. There are quite a few more plusses.

Well, because you seem unhappy here and you have things to look forward to in England.

History / Endecja - State Sponsored Anti Semitism 1935 - 1939. [138]

It wasn't a criticism, M-G, just an observation that you don't quite strike the balance right. Then again, you do a damn sight better than most politicians who are serving agendas. I've just finished watching my favourite documentary on Yugoslavia again. Oh boy, the stuff-ups are unforgivable.

M-G, you can understand the opposition to the Jews of the 1930's, can't you? For me, it appeared like they were overly intrusive and expectant on the whole. This is just what I have read and heard but, again, I could be wrong. It doesn't make sense to orchestrate sweeping policies against them, though.

No camps? Then what was £ambinowice?

Oh, I have criticised Hamas on many occasions. George Galloway did too and he even got a passport from them. Their rocket firing was criminal though I understand it. The intifada time was a brutal one too. They can't just sit back and take it.

It's about setting the record straight as you see it. However, almost without fail, you support the Jewish position which tells me you think it is never wrong.

How am I not impartial on the ME question?

History / Endecja - State Sponsored Anti Semitism 1935 - 1939. [138]

The key question was the moral one, 'to intervene or not?'. We all know that Africans would barely have moved forward if not for some pushing and know-how being given to them. However, this is just how they are and they have to work with that. They are accustomed to primogeniture and subsistence so they can provide for their own. They need to learn the trick of government overthrow.

That broadly fits the African model. Look at Zimbabwe. Without Googling, I think unemployment there stands at around 90-95%. It's not that they are completely devoid of resources, it's more that Mugabe has absconded with the cream.

Their oppressive policies were bound to lead to a backlash. Now that the boot is on the other foot, they have to get on with it. What did they expect, a bugle and a huge serenade, followed by premium tea and biscuits as a welcome? I read a lot on apartheid through being exposed to it during Modern Studies at secondary school. What they did was deplorable!

It is discrimination but it is also payback. Two wrongs don't make a right but blacks, being the majority, were denied so much during the long reign of apartheid. I can understand the logic. Life isn't fair, Hague.
