Love / How do Polish guys feel about having an older girlfriend/wife? [30]

I also wonder if his family wouldn't be happy about our age difference

If they have a prob with the age difference, too bad so sad. Eight years difference is nothing. When you're 100 he'll only be 92, lol! I once dated a guy 17 years older and no one seemed to judge him for us dating. The double standard is funny though. Women are considered cougars, when it's the opposite dating situation.

Work / Supplement Income Sources In Poland [8]

buying and selling stuff

In the states, a quick way to make a few bucks is to have a yard sale. I had only noticed two similar scenarios in Poland. A few elderly women in Warsaw had a few used things for sale, on the sidewalk on blankets. Items included were used glassware and household items. Near Treblinka, I saw what I refer to as a tailgate sale. It was off the side of the road, with loads of used clothing.

Work / Supplement Income Sources In Poland [8]

I was referring to things which may considered unethical, such as selling illegal drugs, prostitution.

as well as the cost of an accountant to deal with the taxes

When small business consultation is privately done under the table, can the Polish government easily detect it?

Work / Supplement Income Sources In Poland [8]

In order to make ends meet during these difficult financial times, people sometimes find it necessary to seek extra income. This may be in addition to already working a full-time job. What are some sources for regenerating (legal) supplemental income in Poland today?

I work a full-time job, Monday-Friday. I also sell antiques and collectibles. It first started out as a hobby. It's now a second income, because I've discovered how lucrative it may be at times.

Others I know offer services, such as business advising, babysitting, yard maintenance, automotive repairs, cake baking, etc.

Life / What is with Polish and their indoor plants? [26]

Yet another reason to be proud to be Polish!

Haha, I was thinking the same thing.

Sister act is right though. My older relatives seem to have a green thumb, with an overabundance of indoor houseplants. However, plants are an item that do not seem to want to grow for me. I've killed enough of them in my lifetime.

Work / Polish attitude towards promotions at work [11]

So I applied and got the position

Some employees dislike the idea of respecting authority in the workplace. Although you are now working in a different department, you've now become a figure of authority. Your coworkers may have developed feelings of subordination, especially if they've already become your friends. I believe in a basic rule at work. My friends are my friends and my coworkers are my coworkers. Some people may view my point as being stuck up. To hell with them. We're all at work to do our job.

USA, Canada / Pol-AM eateries/delis in California [17]

$100 worth of goodies I purchased... holy crap!

Each time I shop at the Glendora store, I spend a minimum of $40.00 on yummy Polish food. It's mostly homemade and lasts me a long time. So much tastier than the frozen stuff.

I'm jealous.

Me too! Let's go & raid his fridge :)

Food / Ever try Stawski beer? [8]

Ever try Stawski beer?

Can't say I've had the honor of trying Stawski, as of yet. Haven't seen it at any of the Polish festivals or restaurants either. Just looked online and California is supposedly one of the states, where the beer is available.

Life / Struggling young Polish couple - try to solve their problem [176]

Years ago in the U.S., many couples would marry at a young age. The husband was usually fortunate, to find a well-paying job, with a company such as Lockheed. The Mrs. would stay home to raise the munchkins. Nowadays, it may take two incomes to purchase a home. Obtaining the down payment, is the major obstacle today, that prevents several people from purchasing their dream home.

USA, Canada / Moving from United Kingdom to USA. Is it worth it? [136]

So does it mean that a potential employer have to hire unemployed registered american estimator with little or no experience rather than (for example) myself with six years of experience ?

The job market in the United States, is currently highly competitive and somewhat brutal. Numerous experienced potential employees, including skilled workers, professionals, educators, etc. are struggling to succeed in gaining employment. There are companies that practice unfair business practices, such as hiring employees on the basis of favoritism and nepotism. The motto for some workplaces seems to be, "It's not what you know. It's who you know."

Food / I've never cooked or eaten any polish dish before. [24]

If you can buy frozen, best bet and fool proof

That's for sure. Here are some pre-packaged Polish food items (fresh from Beckski's freezer, lol.)

When you're lacking cooking time to prepare homemade Polish food... it's Kasia to the rescue! I find Kasia food products at most Polish and European delicatessens :)

Love / Is the Polish wife the boss? [33]

With my older family members, it seems like the wife usually wears the pants in the household. The trend with my younger relatives is more a mutual thing. Also, the husband and wife team are both breadwinners nowadays.
