host cities spend the money and krakow takes the prize.
that may be true to a certain extent but I'm certain the host cities will garner their share of reward. eg many people came to Wrocław and saw what a great place it is that ordinarily wouldn't have come. Hopefully, they come back and/or tell their friends to come.
Rybnik,do you know any good Polish desserts and perhaps, how to make any?
p3, I remember the naleśniki (sorta like Polish crepe's) my mom made and filled them with cream cheese. Pycha! I also remember the layered cakes my ex-mother-in-law used to bake. Her inspired creation was her tort orzechowy (nut cake). Unfortunately, I don't bake.
I forgot kaszanka! My dad used to fry it on a little bacon fat with sauteed onions. Add to that a garlic pickle, fresh rye bread and cold buttermilk, you have perfection.....My wife, the Flip, likes to add an egg and some rice :)
Rybnik, have you ever had a soup that was tomato based with pork and sour kraut?
Kapuśniak!!!!! Of course. How could I have forgotten. Sauerkraut soup. My ex mother-in-law made a killer version! Damn, p3, I'm at work right now and my stomach's growling. I'm hungry now!!! lol
Most fav food? That's tough, seeing as I have soooo many favorites. If pushed, I'd have to say all the Polish soups I've had the pleasure to sample: pomidorowa(tomato), okórkowa(pickle), żurek, flaczki(tripe), barszcz(beet), the list is endless. Mmmm!..........Least fav: czarnina (duck's blood soup). My dad tried to get me to like this Silesian soup but I just couldn't :(
German girls are too shy & conservative for my taste.
That has not been my experience. Maybe it's a generational/geographical thing. I frequented the West Berlin bar/club scene a lot in the '80s. I found the girls very nice, fun-loving, approachable and never a problem buying them a drink ;)
those are all clever, edgey (entourage) shows. I don't think Polish fare can compare. If you like detective/crime shows "Ojciec Mateusz" is good. Plus the setting is in the lovely town of Sandomierz. The others I have seen (Blondynka, Barwy Ścięścia) are more like novellas. Another one I sorta liked was "Czas Honoru" set in WW2. It deals with the resistance in Nazi-occupied Poland. I'll tell you one thing, watching these shows helped me a lot. Good luck.
the last 3 are hard; I couldn't find them. These are the ones I think I see: smok (dragon), Pałac Kultury, Żubr(Polish bison), Polonez (car), Auschwitz, Kościół Mariacki, Wawel castle, Syrena, Kolumn Zygmunta, Mazowsze region
