News / Pole loses language discrimination case in Germany; Scandalous! [97]

Absolutely, It looks like he wants Germany to become like the UK - the bleeding-hearts would be QUEUEING UP to supply them with interpreters over here!

I'm with BB on this one. We've had enough of this nonsense over here, and it's good that Germany is taking a stand.

I agree with that, Turks are wannabe Europeans.

Please remind our coalition leader about this ;)

Love / POLISH WOMEN THE MOST SEXUALLY ACTIVE IN EUROPE...! [54]

The survey shows that almost a half of Polish women (43 percent) have sex more often than once a week, which is more than in the Czech Republic (37 percent) or Greece. Only Russian women admit having sex more often than Poles – half of them have sexual intercourse several times a week.

I bet the survey doesn't say how long each occasion actually lasts, though ;)

News / Poland - the least liked German neighbour. [210]

How many Germans does it take to change a light bulb?
None, because Germans never see the light.

Wouldn't they get a Turk to do it anyway? :D

Travel / Poland-My 9-day experience [239]

Hahaha, I know someone who went on holiday to Bradford, I still can't work it out :D

PMSL!!!

Where was s/he from? Karachi?? :D

Nothing beautiful in Danzig? You've got to be kidding me! It's got the most unique Old Town in Poland for a starter. And it's Gdansk, not Danzig.

100% correct :)

What's your thing, besides the Opera and the bridge in the harbour, that occupies 90% of all your postcards?

It's too hot and they're running out of water as well :)

It's a steel tower what do expect at the top?

It's about the views, not about the "top of the tower" anyway :) But I'd still rather go back up the Petřínská rozhledna (though not when it's windy :0 lol )

Poland has 23 nobel prize winners

Mostly Jews, unsurprisingly.

Language / Why 'działka'? [10]

Very true. But Magdalena's reply shows that it's really just a piece of land to grow things on, which the owner later built a summer house on.

It's a bit like property law in the UK; house buyers concentrate on the house rather than the land, but purchase contracts tend to say something like "the land at number xx street and all that is situate on it"... which suggests that you've paid your £150K for a piece of land, and the house you're going to live in is just an added bonus. ;)

Somewhere like Bradford or Leicester would have been a better example of industrial cities which are barely worth visiting, to be honest.

As we were talking about Silesia earlier, Katowice is closer to places like that in terms of how "worth visiting" they are. Of course, the Greater Katowice area probably ought to be richer than Warsaw, but I don't want to turn this into a thread which supports Niepodległość Śląska ;)

I don't like Liverpool much, but it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the North West.

Its weird she wasnt at Mazury, instead of that she was in Silesia... its like go on ur vacation to Manchester...

er.. no. It's more like going on holiday to the Black Country :p

There's plenty to see and do here, and as Manchester is the second most-visited city in England (London is obviously first) and culturally way ahead of anywhere outside the capital, it's like visiting Kraków instead of Warsaw. There's far more to see and do in central Manchester than in Kraków, and far more variety than in Warsaw. Considering that 2.5 million people live in Greater Manchester, and the central areas are similar in size, that doesn't really say much for Poland's capital, does it?

By the way, I quite like Warsaw (I've been there many times and know it well) so it's not a criticism of Poland's capital, but get your facts right when talking about places you've probably not spent more than a few hours in, if at all.

Junk foods like Mc Donalds and KFC are out of reach of vast majority of the population.

I can easily make four or five adult-sized main meals for the price of one McDonald's meal, and I imagine that the same is true in Poland.

Poor people who prefer to be "well fed than go hungry" would be better off avoiding places like McDonald's and prepare their own meals instead.

if u would like photos of bullet ridden buildings, potholed streets, grime covered buildings, lack of colour as in no window boxes or flowers in parks, inappropriate buildings etc, then i'd be happy to post some.

When did you visit Salford?? :D lol

Seriously, though... is there any city in the world which has no run-down, neglected, dirty areas? I'll bet that even Singapore has some areas like that.

Communist-style... built by Polish builders :p

I'm not really into political threads, but Crow's posts obviously have far more relevance to a Polish forum then all those threads about Blacks, Muslims, Indians or Arabs do! :)

Life / What are the things which cause culture shock in Poland? [164]

The contrast in Paris is huge and terrifying. The sheer poverty and hopelessness of the suburbarbs vs the wealth of Paris proper is...mindblowing.

Likewise London - look at the poverty of Tower Hamlets compared to the wealth of the City - then look at how far apart they are.

I must admit I was pretty shocked when I took the Eurostar to Paris - I lived in a very divided London area (Battersea) at the time, but nowhere round there looked as bad as those north Paris suburbs. it reminded me of films made in the South Bronx in the 1970s. You read all this **** about beautiful, romantic Paris, then you see that the reality is very different. Even south London had nowhere as bad as those areas. East Manchester before they started doing it up was probably the nearest thing we had tom it over here.

But it's the same round here, really. Just going to the dentist makes me realise how divided many British cities are. Where I live is like a paradise compared to Lower Broughton, which is where the aforementioned dentist has his clinic, yet it's only a couple of miles away, if that :0

i personally find english streets lined up with identically looking houses depressing to say the least

Depends what kind of "identical houses" you mean. Some of those "identical" streets are really attractive, and sought-after. And even many of those which aren't quite so aesthetically pleasing are far more attractive than concrete-slab Polish blocks!

The Old Polish cuisine
is immensely rich, and despite the fact that the modern cuisine in Poland is significantly
less diverse, saying that it lacks diversity and is "plain, old boring" only shows the
ignorance of those who never really tried a real traditional Polish dish.

Absolutely. There must be literally hundreds of Polish dishes I haven't tried, and I grew up on Polish food, although I'll admit that we ate plenty of English, Italian, Chinese and Indian food too : ).

The fact that I have three Polish cookbooks, but only one Indian, says something about the alleged lack of diversity of Polish food ;)

fish and chips or shepherd pie does not really make you a kitchen powerhouse, eh?

It would if all you had ever tried before that was plain kluski śląskie or plain Chinese congee with no added flavourings :D

English food is ethnic cuisine, curry's have been eaten in Britain for hundreds of years,

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who is fed up of people knocking England, the English, and English food.

The English are an ethnic group, and therefore English food is also "an ethnic cuisine". It may not be as diverse as "Chinese" cuisine, but that's hardly surprising - China is as large and diverse as the whole of Europe.

And you may not realise that Britain even has (shock horror) its own regional dishes/specialities - Yorkshire pudding, Cumberland sausage (Cumbria), Melton Mowbray pork pies (Leicestershire), Eccles Cakes/Chorley Cakes (Lancashire), Faggots & Peas (Birmingham/Black Country) to name but a few... all of which are pretty good.

Oh, and that stuff which Scousers eat (but we won't mention them too loudly, will we ;) )

And just to make sure the Scots don't left out, I love haggis as well :D

Life / What would YOU do to make life in poland better?? [72]

Why is it they always have money for cheap alcohol but not for a bar of soap :(

If you're drunk, you won't realise that you need a bath ;)

you know in Poland we PAY FOR WATER. ;)

Doesn't everyone these days?

Stop immigration to Poland from outside Europe. This will prevent Poland transforming to a multicultural sh#thole like in Western Europe.

Poland will still become more multicultural if Belgians move there!

Life / What are the things which cause culture shock in Poland? [164]

Poles just need to be more imaginative in the kitchen.

I use Worcester Sauce (or, even better, Pickapeppa sauce when I can get it) in my bigos, Polish sausage in my Chinese food, and Indian spices in some of my pierogi.

I can't believe how much I rule sometimes** :)

What is the point of the word "Polish" in this sentence? It's not as if Polish women are humanoid or something.

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

Perhaps thats why they wont give Ice cubes in Heathrow?

To be fair, Heathrow are more obsessed with "cultural sensitivity" than sensitive teeth lol

she must have been from the sticks: there is Kawa mrozona in Poland - they even sell it at the beach:).

I've ordered dozens of "kawy mrozone" all over Poland, and they were always... full of ice ;)

The Polish way is the best for your body because if you drink cold water when it is very hot you heart needs to pump much more and one should drink lukewarm beverage or hot drinks when it is very hot

Pass an oesophageal doppler probe into a tachycardic, septic, febrile person, then fill them with lots of cool intravenous fluid, and watch what happens to their cardiac output, stroke volume and basic cardiovascular observations. You will find that the heart starts working less hard and more efficiently.

Love / Why do Polish women prefer foreigners for boyfriends and husbands? [418]

It was all going so well.

Then...

Then I come.Balkan power. The cards have to be once again distributed.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!111!!!

In reality the only "balkan power" you have is the power to play with your wiener while thinking about "Polki" who won't give you the time of day.

Does anyone remember that episode of Beavis & Butthead from back in the day, where their idea of a great Saturday night out "pulling chicks", was actually to stand next to the hot dog machine in the local paki shop, going "huhhuhhuh, he said horn" every time a girl walked in?

Well, that's southern and his brother, that is... :D

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

You've got a mouth, ask for ice, that's what most normal people do.

Considering how much complaining Poles usually do, you would think that asking for some ice would be easy! :)

If not, I can teach them ;)

An example: where I used to live in Surrey, I often went in a rather nice (non-chain) cafe which was mostly run by Polish staff - but I heard that they weren't allowed to use the language in front of customers. I once ordered an iced cappuccino on a 30+ degree day (as you do).

When it arrived, it was at room temperature. When I complained that it wasn't "iced", the barista said "you wanted cold coffee, yes?", to which I replied " a cold coffee isn't the same thing as an iced coffee innit".

She looked confused. By this time, I was getting even hotter and even more fed up.

So it was time to explain things in a different way: "moze Pani nie rozumie co to znaczy "kawa mrozona?" "

I soon got the ice after that.

If I want lukewarm coffee, I'll ask for one! :D

UK, Ireland / The secret Polish gay men in the U.K [133]

I suspect them both of sitting fully naked behind their computers when visiting this forum, arousing themselves with the thought that they do and nobody knows about it.

"Iron" means homosexual in London rhyming slang (iron hoof = poof) lol :D

We've decided you are. You just don't know it yet.

You lot can "decide" all you like :p

So all the Poles are coming out of the closet then :-)

wtf?? I'm not gay - it's just an observation that TVN seems to put "token gays" into all its programmes - the ones I've seen, anyway!

Love / All the good Polish men for dating are taken? [111]

Agree with that statement... just like you brits dont go to work drunk but on coke (its always better... u can work harder and more efficiently)

Definitely true in the media!

You have to go fast to hospital or vomit before all alcohol will be absorbed from your digest system...

I have actually performed gastric lavage on poisoned people myself, but never on someone who was only drunk.

You do realise that if someone has ingested enough alcohol to be semi-conscious (i.e., "poisoned"), it's too late to stop the poisoning by removing any alcohol left in their stomach? "Stomach pumping" is dangerous even if it is done correctly, even in drug overdose, and is NEVER done "routinely" in poisoning:

Grow up. I am talking about other substances these people take.

No you weren't, you were replying to a post where drunks were mentioned, not "drug takers".

Smart arse, when you are on the receiving end of these people you would not be so smart.

I've already been on the "receiving end" of hundreds (if not thousands) of these kind of people, and I'm still here, so I'm clearly smarter than you are, "Guest" :p
