News / John Godson, born in Nigeria, might become Poland Sejm's first black deputy! [313]

Please, don't call John Godson 'black' - he is an Afropole, and he is officially
the first Afropole member of Polish Parliament...

Afropole? Is that a race? Sort of like African American? Although I'm glad he's so successful it's too bad political correctness madness has now reached Poland too... Afropole... I'm glad he wasn't from Nigeria or they'd invent a yet another idiotic term for him... Oh wait, he is born in Nigeria...

How about simply a Pole? ...and if someone wants to know more about him than call him a Pole who happens to be black?

Language / déjà vu in Polish [23]

skysoulmate:
"et cetera" is often pronounced "ex cetera" for some reason...

By many English speakers too!

That's what I meant. Here in America, especially in the "black" vernacular.

When my mom was still living she would use the word 'wej' as an interjection in English, usually as a response to a 'dumb' question like "Mom, why is busia's hair white"? She would answer "Wej, because busia is very old".

Here we go again, another prophet of the moronic and non-existent word busia. It's called babcia, babusia, etc. Never busia. There must be 20 threads here on this fake word...

Work / If you were to compere Polish Unis and Unis/Colleges in your country... [75]

My Polish "education" is limited to przedszkole and few grades in podstawówka so my comparisons would be pointless. I think the Swedish and the American systems are fairly similar. I got an electrical engineering degree from Sweden and in the US a Computer Science BS, followed by masters in Aerospace. (3 degrees and still can't spell worth of crap lol)

I think people study harder in the US because it's not free. In Sweden there were guys and gals in my class who missed 50% of the classes because they didn't care, in the US it meant you'd have to pay twice for the same class. Overall though both systems focused heavily on problem solving rather than memorization.

Language / "Łukasz Trembecki" - how to pronounce and spell my birth dads name [7]

jbcb2009: Lukeazar trembekie

£ukasz Trembecki?

That's the most probable spelling and if so the pronunciation would be something like
Wookash Trembetzkee

(remember there are rolling r's in Polish, similar to the Spanish language)

Now the hard 'l' is encountered only along the eastern flank of today's small, truncated Poland.

That's what I've heard before. Too bad, I definitely prefer the "old" ł pronunciation.

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

I suspect Southern's lady friend made this posting when he forgot to log out. There's no way this came from the same Southern who usually makes all those ultra sexist and shallow remarks. So who are we talking to today??

Here's are some typical Southern posts - you tell me if he even understands what the message above really means?

I will leave you fuckk each other minds and concentrate on slavic legs. What a beauty. When these legs appear who pays any attention to the western nose?

Categories of Polish girls
I would divide them into:
1.Village girls
2.Sponsored girls

What do you think?

There also the girls who don't shave their legs.

very friendly attitude sky :-) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that's true but sometimes black is black and white is white and there are certain criteria (not only in this case) that people follow to determine certain things.

Thanks and yes, you're right. Some things are ingrained in our brains and we might or might not be able to change our attitudes toward certain features in the opposite gender.

As far as the squared, chiselled jaw on a man. There've been studies showing women prefer men with those attributes but only as a fling, a temporary boyfriend, etc. and look for "softer" facial attributes in a lifelong partner. As a square jaw type of a guy I'm therefore screwed! I'll work hard on getting fat hoping to "soften up" my facial contours. LOL

Women Prefer Effeminate Men As Husbands

We have already understood that a head-shaved tattooed muscle-packed 'macho' does not make the ideal husband. But women clearly know it.

A new research has shown that women 'detect' the good husband in males with effeminate faces. 400 British subjects, men and women, were put to score digitally altered pictures of male faces presented without any hair, ears, neck, shoulder or clothing visible and transformed to look more masculine or more feminine.

But thank you for admitting that germanic beauty rules... :):):)

Remember that we all view beauty differently; there are eye pleasers in each and every race and nationality...

I don't like square jaws, yuck, awful (geez, maybe I just need a baby? ;D )

Hey, what's wrong with a square jaw?? :(
Yes, you need a baby! lol

PS. I agree that the right pic by BB does not show a square jaw...

"za mundurem panny sznurem..." ;DDD

This means women like guys in uniforms, correct? Wanted to make sure this isn't some kind of SM connotation, I've misunderstood sayings before... :)

History / Poland, Lacking External Enemies, Turns on Itself [106]

nytimes.com/2010/11/28/world/europe/28poland.html

WARSAW - It was 9:30 at night, under a chilly, steady rain. The Presidential Palace glowed brightly in the background as a cluster of men and women huddled under umbrellas, saying prayers, holding small wooden crosses against their bodies, facing a large picture of Jesus Christ on the cross and a lighted statue of the Virgin Mary....

Law / Would be an honor to serve in Poland. Can an American pilot transfer to the Polish Airforce? [14]

As a member of the Polish diaspora who's a member of the US national guard (part time nowadays) I'd say you should be able to begin the process as long as you're a legal resident of Poland. Eventually you'll have to become a citizen I'd imagine just as it is in the US. I'm guessing that you either didn't make it in the US military and want to give it a try somewhere else (might be a good idea) or are trying to make a political statement. Either way, remember that you'll probably end up serving in similar places (NATO member).

Either way good luck to you and greetings from hong kong btw.

Love / Polish relationships (race and religion) [140]

No of course not.

That was the only point I was trying to make earlier

You described it pretty well :)

Love / Polish relationships (race and religion) [140]

That's fair enough. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I firmly believe that £ódz made the right choice by following his heart. Happiness is the key to a good life, a life side-by-side a loved one only accentuates this happiness which is never bound by nationality or race.

At the same token I do respect your point of view, I simply disagree with it.

Love / Polish relationships (race and religion) [140]

Wow asik - so judgmental because of a few bad apples in your neighborhood?? You'll find rotten people in each in every nationality and race. It's so cliché to say but it's about the inner beauty and not just where a person is from or whether he or she is white or black, or pink...

I travel all over the world, primarily in Asia but also elsewhere, and there are so many good people out there. It's sad that people still have your attitude (no offense meant). It's sad because it's almost as if you decided to become colorblind by choice. It's hard to fully appreciate a rainbow when you chose to filter out some colors from your view. Can't explain it very well but I find it so sad someone would think the way you do.

Life / Polish gimnazjums - memoirs of a teacher [32]

isn't assosiate degree something like "technik" (the title you achieve when you graduete studium policealne)?

This chart might explain it better...

Many people take the associate degree in their home town to knock off the basic subjects. It's cheaper as many live with their parents and usually there's a lower "in-state" tuition. Then they proceed to the college of their choice to specialize in their field of interest and get a bachelor in science, bachelor in arts, - applied sciences, - computer technology, - aerospace, etc. Some go to the college of their choice from the get-go and skip the associate degree. (it'll still take about the same time but you won't have to change schools).

Some continue on to earn a masters degree , ph.d, etc.

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

Great advice! Show a good attitude no matter what they ask you about, people love to help but hate to feel inferior or looked down upon. So make it clear that you're there to work hard and will work on your Polish...

News / Philippines' tourism logo "borrowed" from Polska? :) [5]

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - The new tourism brand of the Philippines, "Pilipinas Kay Ganda," hasn't even turned a week old, and yet criticisms have been thrown at the Department of Tourism left and right.

The latest criticism--and accusation--making the rounds of social networking sites on the Internet is that the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" logo was lifted from Poland's own tourism campaign, Polska....

The Internet has definitely made the world smaller. Sometimes too small maybe? ;)
I've been to the Philippines many times, beautiful country but more so wonderful and very friendly people. No grudge here, maybe they should offer some discounts to all people who's names end with -ski, -ska, etc. :)

Walang anuman. (You're welcome) LOL

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

Thank the tax-exempt "non-partisan" (LOL) ACLU for it. The states are terrified of getting slammed with lawsuits and the special tax code ACLU enjoys allows them to keep doing it. If ACLU sues a state and loses they're NOT responsible for the court costs of the entity they sued, something that's a common procedure otherwise.

Remember a few years back when some Ramadan and Kwanzaa (African American created holiday to celebrate the black culture) supporters complained about the attention Christmas was getting? For the next few years many state buildings but also Target, wal-mart, etc., called Christmas trees holiday trees and Christmas greetings became holiday greetings, etc. Paranoia at it's best. The irony of all the ACLU lawsuits is that they're supposedly making sure citizens's rights are protected - yet ACLU's co-founder Roger Nash Baldwin was an avid communist and proud of it too. I guess "civil rights" didn't apply to the citizens of Soviet Union... To his credit he denounced communism in the late 40's once the rumors of Soviet prisoner gulags had become very rampant.. Better late than never I guess...

Love is surely a touch of soul ... nothing else. As mysterious as it ... as divine as it!

Hope you'll never lose your way of thinking and your outlook on life. You sound very happy, it's so refreshing... I'll be in Seoul next week, will have to look for someone like your lady :)

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

I wasn't picking on you and your numbers. My point was that convex is right and that double taxation is wrong. At the same token it doesn't affect many people and as far as I know giving up US citizenship is the only way to avoid the tax (I read somewhere that last year ~450 people or so did just that).
