Polonia / Ever been to Sweden? [185]

Goteborg and Boraas

Yees, Göteborg is a great place, Borås not so much though. I'd choose Jönköping over Borås - it's a bit bigger and has this academic atmosphere and the lake.

News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

I heard yesterday..that under EU rules about balance and fairness they have to errect a similar sized statue of Satan within 100 meters of the Christ statue

LMAO:) - That would really increase tourism!

Our Lord is there for them

... and he needs money!

News / How can Poles make a conscious choice about elections? [15]

People first look at the party they like and then follow the "this guy is an uncle of a friend, he's a good person - vote for him" path.

Yes, well described. This is also the way I call irresponsible. Does someone's uncle or collegue at work necessarily have the skills to do the job? Basing the choices just because we know a candidate is silly.

they do not formulate programs or stuff them with empty nice-sounding promises

- ...while they should be obliged to have a detailed program beforehand, like a business plan, and publish them obligatorily. That would make sense.

Interesting idea with this theyworkforyou.com - too bad I didn't find it.
The rest is indeed sadly not complex as the politicians don't make use of it generally, thus making the whole idea more or less pointless. However, many of the candidates have official Facebook profiles but that is not where the politics should happen, it's just fashion (and great marketing tool).

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

However, if you want a license to do so, you have to follow the laws of the land. Same if you employ anyone staff, delivery people or cleaners then its a workplace and again there are laws and rights. Staff a not slaves, for instance. You don't own them by employing them just as you don't own the customers who visit your 'private' bar.

Oh, bull's eye! :)

Even in business, would you insist that your assets were frozen? ;)

No! I'm not in prn business anymore! Ron Jeremy bumped me out (not literally).

milk bar

- Milk bars should be protected like nature reserve parks:). It's unique. Just as pomidorowa z makaronem there. They should get peace Nobel prize for this [I know, I know Nobel seems too big but they gave it for much smaller achievements hahah].

No argument here and we agree.
Except maybe:

Nobody will want to freeze their bolloc*s off out in the late Dec/early Jan cold.

- My grandma always said to keep your bolloc*s cold. Does she know something we don't know?

See, that's the right attitude! Way to go Seanus.

I just see no justification for you to force your point onto anybody else.

- Not forcing anyone, just getting back the rights of the not addicted majority. The smokers never care for that so this controversial law had to be imposed, sorry.

News / How can Poles make a conscious choice about elections? [15]

You know, I started sometimes to wonder if that's not a better solution. Seriously, I think - excluding psycho madmen, tyrans and Kim Dzong Eels;) - by "Pilsudski style" as you nicely named it, there would at least some plan carried out fully. Now it's all about blocking the opposing party's actions even when they're good. And almost any plan carried out is better than no plan eventually. Maybe.

It is almost always indicated, plus you've got a waiter nex to you to ask if not sure. Also the prices may suggest it. I've never had this problem that I was served just a kotlet and no sorwki on the side...

Travel / Restaurant reviews in Poland. [86]

There's gastronauci.pl, and with the magical help of Your Friand Google translator, you can read everything in English. It's the biggest review website of pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes in Poland.

Travel / Parking in Krakow [13]

No problem. Then maybe check this other one and if not - there's definitely one or two bigger ones bit further at Zyblikiewicza/Westerplatte corner and 50 metres further on Kopernika, round the tourists hotel. If ou don't have a very fancy ride - park on the street, it just costs the normal fare.

News / How can Poles make a conscious choice about elections? [15]

All the others we cannot easily see (e.g. on the web) seem just not to care and print tons of brochures and posters with their names instead of presenting their programs in detail (I know some do that but most - don't).

That's why many people don't vote at all.

- What's worse? Voting blindly like this, without proper judgement or not voting?

both went to candidates who had a web presence

- Hopefully not just because of that fact:). See, this is what I meant, you have no choice, even when you want to make a conscious voting, you cannot find all the information necessary for this.

Travel / Parking in Krakow [13]

Hi,
They have a small parking space at that hotel. Maybe you should make sure there'll be a place for you too. If not, there is a guarded parking lot at ulica Św.Gertrudy 6 and some more bit further.

News / How can Poles make a conscious choice about elections? [15]

There's very little information on the local elections happening today. Out of curiosity I started checking the local elections candidates' websites. When it comes down to city president (at least in Krakow) the case is quite simple and the candidates have their websites and political programs published. It's also easy as there's not many of them (I counted 6 candidates). But in order to make some basic comparison of almost any of the candidates to local government or city council one would have to visit at least 637 webpages (that's in Krakow, but other places aren't very different, not to mention many of them don't show their program or have no website at all) The matter of voting responsibly and consciously turns out to be almost imposible. There is no one reliable website to read about all candidates. There are two fairly good, but incomplete unofficial sites: mamprawowiedziec.pl/wyszukiwarka-kandydatow/

but there is very little there. Only names, age, political group and that's all. The majority of candidates did not fill in the necessary data. Voting on those pathetic posters with naive slogans and leaflets that litter the streets now isn't what I'd call a proper voting campaign. And it's not enough to make any choice or get any opinion at all. How is it possible that there's elections organized but actually nowhere to get to know who you would be voting for? Any thoughts on that?

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

My argument is from legal point of view, yours is wishful thinking - you CAN do the things you mention but the staff/proprietor of a bar can tell you to leave, just as they can allow or not allow smoking or farting (though the last being often hard, as it's not easy to find the culprit).

Public spaces are owned by the public.

Where did you get this idea from? Also, I guess I did not write public property but private place open to public (thus fulfilling the def. of a public place - not public property)

Travel / Vegetarian places to eat in Krakow [30]

- Why deprive yourself a balanced diet? Why, why, why? In the name of what?! :) Carcass - I am not a scavenger, there's a difference. Do you also want to feed dogs with cereal?! They wouldn't dia, but won't be in good shape either... Anyway, I agree it's up to everyone's own decision.

Vegetarianism is the healthiest diet for one's body and for the Earth. We vegetarians are the future.

Hahahahah.

Open to the public does not mean public.

Exactly it does mean that, according to the definition. Do you have any other definition? I think lawyers describe public space/place as a space/place that is accesible to... [...surprise...]

...

and the atmosphere of suspence is almost unbareable...

...

the public!!! Or just people :)

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

Would you go to a swimming pool which has big signs up saying "Need a piiss? Please piiss in the pool."?

- I just do not remember ever seeing or entering a place where it had a sign saying: smoking advised, or welcome dear smokers, or please smoke!

And let's face you are trying to use the ridiculous argument that if piiss-pool swimmers want to proceed in their piiss-pool swimming preferences, then it's ok. Bear n mind, swimming pools are public if you open them to public - they have owners, private proprietors etc. but still, they are public unless you close them under the name of e.g. a smoking club.

Ok, I'm done, Harry. No serious arguments will come after that so I end this with statement that we don't agree, but [maybe, hopefully] see our points and that's that.

Harry, I wouln't count in occasional smokers. If so, that would include lots of other people who don't see that problem of a ban, even me, and I would never ever smoke in a pub 'cause it stinks and shows total lack of culture and respect for others. Just as I never **** in a swimming pool. I am occasional smoker as I smoke about 2 cigarettes per 6 weeks or more. If you exclude that - my calculation sounds right, as I took the numbers from your source, but without occasional smokers.

Right, so if more non smokers would go to non smoking bars, owners would see a market and implement non smoking laws voluntarily. I would.

How do you recognize them?
And you do know that the vast majority of people don't smoke? So why haven't you done it already, wha'cha waiting for? I wouldn't say that pub frequenters are only smokers.
