Law / Importing cars into Poland [8]

The law on importing cars has changed recently, as too many older models were flooding the market. You need to really read up on whether it's actually viable to go through the process.

Travel / Finding molly or coke in Poland [3]

You do understand that of the Police find any stuff on you, you will be thrown in jail for 10 years (without a trial) and forgotten about.

You will find that clubs for young people are the same everywhere.

Law / Poland tourist visa refusal [10]

People seem to forget that if you have no job in Poland, you will not get any social benefits. You will have to turn to crime, will be caught and will be sent back to your home country with a criminal record.

Real Estate / Contact from a Łukasz Mróz about Krakow property inheritance is this a scam? [20]

If you are a rightful owner of the property (even 1% of the total) the authorities will contact you. The best way is to contact Urzad Miasta in Krakow and ask them if the building that he mentions is subject to any legal action of recovery. They will tell you. Do not deal with anyone else. You will NOT be liable for any debts accrued if the building once belonged to your family. It will cost you nothing (perhaps a few emails) to find out if you have a claim on the building. If you have a claim Urzad Miasta (Town Hall) will tell you what to do next. DO NOT give any money to anyone. DO NOT sign any papers.

Life / Driving skills of drivers in Poland? [41]

I have observed thousands of people crossing roads in Krakow, Poland.
Some have their head in their phone and just step out without looking left, right and left again. They seem to think that they have a right to cross anywhere even in front of a moving tram. Many people cross wherever it is convenient for them and not where they should. I have shouted at them for not looking (words such as - you want to kill yourself right now) and they look at me as if I came from another planet. People should only cross the road when and where it is safe for them to do so.

If pedestrians and drivers helped each other, had respect for each other on the road - everyone would be happy and they would live longer - but that point (of being safe and living longer) is very hard to explain to people..

The others who need to brush up on their skills are the cyclists who ride their bikes on the pavements.......

Law / Poland tourist visa refusal [10]

It is not up to us to advise you of what else you could provide. You should go back to the authorities and ask them. If they have refused you they must have had good reasons. Only they can tell you what they are.

Life / Driving skills of drivers in Poland? [41]

Re: zebra crossings. I have personally experienced drivers stop at the zebra crossing to allow me to cross. I do not go out in the road if a car has not stopped. However, as 2 of us were walking across a zebra, a driver drove through it, missing us by inches. We saw him driving at speed, and had we not stopped on the zebra itself we would have been dead. Total disregard for life.

Best idea is to take photographs on your mobile phone of people driving their cars through the zebra crossings whilst other people are are crossing them and posting them on Facebook. Make sure you get the car's plates.

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

Your wife will NOT be able to find ANY type of jobs. As written above, NOT even cleaning toilets. You must take into account the fact that there are very FEW coloured people in Poland. The fact that she speaks English has NOTHING to do with it. She cannot even give private lessons as no one will come for them.

In Krakow on my last trip (lasting 5 weeks) 1 saw one Afro-American, and 3 Indian people in the whole time I was there.
You can find the cost of food and other items by googling them. Also remember that you have to buy not only food, but cleaning products, washing products, toiletries, baby things. Please read carefully the post above. Please do not keep asking the same questions.

Also remember this - once you have committed yourself to being in Poland, you may find that you want to leave within the first month.....

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

Everything depends on your 'perceived' standard of living. There are thousands of people (2 adults and child) who survive on much less. However, they are locals, have family connections, speak the language and can find cheaper alternatives. You do not have any of these.

I would be very careful to have a clear signed contract as to what the company will pay for.

Your wife will NOT be able to find any work as a teacher. Currently, over 6,000 teachers are being told that they have no job, a further 10,000 are being told to work part time. Your wife does not have any qualifications/experience to be offered any jobs.

Law / Car Insurance in Poland (A/C) [32]

Yes, it might be an idea to have the car in your friend's name and show you as a named driver on the policy. They may ask for proof of who you are.

Life / Settle in Poland, which city is best? [30]

If you are a resident of Poland (i.e. have your life interests there) you will NOT be allowed any tax-free allowances in the U.K..This is the cruncher. You must establish beyond a shadow of a doubt your 'residency'.

If you are a resident of the U.K. - i.e. have your life interests there, you can only stay in Poland for less than 183 days a year.

You must watch out also, that in the U.K. the tax year runs from April to April, but in Poland from January to December.

Life / Driving skills of drivers in Poland? [41]

If everyone (men and women) drove at all times according to the Road Law law there would be no accidents.
If men did not see a car as an extension of their penis - there would be no accidents.
If women thought about driving whilst driving (instead of everything else) there would be no accidents.

Law / If I leave Poland and return to my home country, is it possible to claim back tax paid? [20]

Whilst I understand that you can 'add' the contribution paid in Poland to any contribution you may pay in Germany, this of course means that you have to work in Germany for the time necessary to be counted towards an old age pension and contribute there as well. You would then be able to receive your 'state pension' at the applicable age in Germany.

UK, Ireland / Moving stuffs from London to Warsaw or Gdansk [5]

You could try searching on the internet for any transport willing to move you. You are very lucky that you can get a quote for less than £500. No one will do it for less.

Law / Paying tax on UK I.S.A. in Poland? [20]

The parent may be liable to pay tax on the child's income if that child resides in Poland and the income is transferred into a Polish bank.

Law / If I leave Poland and return to my home country, is it possible to claim back tax paid? [20]

If you have paid any contribution to ZUS, you may be entitled to claim old age pension based on your contribution when you reach state pension age applicable in Poland. They are currently discussing whether you have had to pay in for 5 years before any pension may be payable, but in all events it is worth keeping all your paperwork relating to the amounts paid. Just in case you decide to claim your old age pension from Poland.

Real Estate / Buying property at the Bailiff / Enforcement Agent Auction (Komornik Sądowy) in Poland [20]

Buy to let property must be considered as a long term investment.
If you buy a place (house/apartment or anything) and then sell it within 5 years, you will be liable for tax on the difference in price. The 5 years starts being counted from the end of the year in which you bought the property and it must be 5 years.

When buying any property it is worth keeping documentary evidence of all expenses. This may just help in the future.

Work / What qualifications are required to teach English in Poland? Completed 2 week TEFL course [53]

Sorry, my fault. What I meant to say is that when you are teaching English to speakers of other language, their own language (e.g. in this case Polish) is not required. In fact most schools want to employ native teachers who have no idea about Polish.

If the target language (e.g. Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese) was required of any teachers of English, then no one would have a job. There are thousands of teachers teaching in Asia and very few have an idea about the local language.

Law / Stopped by the Poland's Police for no reason while walking at night [94]

You are very lucky, that they didn't shoot first and ask questions later. The Police have the power to stop anyone at anytime and ask for their ID papers. If you have a complaint you can raise it at the Police station, but then remember that you can be held for 24 hours without any reason at all whilst helping the Police with their enquiries.
