Life / Mixed race girl in Poland, good idea? [149]

If you want evidence of racism, how about the Morrocan actor who played at a festival near where I live and was seriously beaten up by two drunken villagers, who used racist abuse whilst doing it.

I was seriously beaten up myself. Unfortunately I am Polish therefore I am unable to call this act "racist". :-)

How about all the Jews who are convinced if they visit poland they'll be attacked by the raging anti-semitic hoardes?

Anti-semitic hordes. That is quite interesting. Have you seen them recently? If some Jew is sure that some brown-nazi-shirt are waiting for him in Poland - is that our problem? I think this is a problem of this particular Jew who obviously is anti-Polish paranoid.

Jemma is asking a perfectly valid question and has been sensible enough to come to a place where she might get some useful information. isn't that better than just believing the stories?

If I would ask a question on lets say Nigeria-Forums : "Hey guys! I am white. Should I be afraid to be cocked and served as a main dish if I decide to visit your country?" Is that would be perfectly valid question? Or maybe prejudice and racism sign? Heh?

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

I commented on the country, society and the people i met from my perspective as a tourist

You commented only about Your own feelings, call some names, put some labels, but definitely you didn't comment on the country you visited. Personally I would be happy to learn some of your observations and conclusions.

Right now all I know that you are descendant of very fine family, got a few passports and traveled a lot. I also know that you have got some "sour" feelings about Poland, you did find most of Poles narrow-minded and Poland has deep-rooted problems. Come on - you can say this regarding any country in the world.

but there are a few who can be racist towards those of a different skin colour to themselves for no reason what-so-ever.

And how this racism demonstrates itself - I wonder?

BTW - I find your question extremal impolite an somehow... racist.

It is easy to call a few millions of people an "narrow-minded" isn't it? Without any arguments, without any observations it is just a name-calling, nothing more.

In your lengthy post titled "Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective" you actually didn't say thing about Poland. Funny.

Life / Doctors taking bribes in Poland [76]

Well. If a doctor would demand some money from me, or else... - I would palpably call it a "bribe".
But situation described in the first post is quite different. If you always "bribe" doctors. If handling a money to them is your own initiative, not their demand - you have no moral right to call it a "bribe".

Genealogy / Stanislaw Szczyglinski - Holocaust Victim.. [9]

Mystic

I doubt he was Jewish since my family has always been predominantly Catholic, so is it possible he worked for the Polish Underground?

1) If he wasn't a Jew, he can't be described as "Holocaust victim".
2) Have you ever heard of "łapanka".

Life / Reasons for moving to Poland [291]

I am afraid this kind of temperatures are quite normal. Not common, but on the other hand - nothing unusual.

Life / Polish clothing - Polish folk costumes [28]

Other costumes are just regional and peasant's clothes. There is only one REAL polis costume.
This is kontusz (don't forget the saber). :

Life / Ripped Off in Poland? - Expose here: [185]

First - you have to find a local "targ" or "rynek. These are usually function only on "dzień targowy" - one day of the week.

Selling unregistered (that wasn't checked by vet) meat is illegal in Poland. Therefore I suggest to take a Polish friend with you to do "small talk" and negotiations. Other way is to find a small local slaughterhouse.

So within 6 months you can go back to where you bought it and ask them for a replacement or if you don't want to struggle to much accept waiting for a repair ( but legaly you have the option as to whether it's a repair or replacement ).

Legally, I am afraid, you have to accept repair offer. Refund or replacement are an option only if repair is unsuccessful.

UK, Ireland / Posting from UK to Poland....not good! [53]

32 years in UK and no problems. Not one. 10 years here and missing mail several times a year.

I don't know how to tell you that, but things turned worse with Royal Mail in the last ten years. (sad but true)

It's accepted as a law of this land.
I know that the UK laws are better, but blaming and moaning at Poland for not being UK is simple pointless.

That's useful to know. And pissed on Magdalena's chips somewhat.

Yep. That's useful to know. Other thing that is useful: This is a producer responsibility, not the shop owner to replace faulty product. That is why you shouldn't expect any apologies from salesman. They consider it not their fault. (we can discuss if that is a right approach, but well - that's how it is)

Yeah! they purposely set the stand in a location where there was dim light. Damn polskis! Cheating bastards!

They built this shop and designed it with sole intention in minds - to lure you into buying some smalec. "Cunning people they are!" - master Yoda once said.

I'd like to see something Europe-wide, Let's hope it gives the best protection to the consumer not the worst.

I am afraid that in reality you would like to see something UK-like. Don't you?
I am agree customer protection in the UK is great. For instance you can change your mind and return item to the shop (without any particular reason). In Poland it's not so easy. Is that good or bad? I don't know. All I know - it's Polish way.

A don't see any attraction in unified Europe with the same customs and law in every country. What's would be a point in traveling then?

Sometimes I encounter guys who are blaming Poles of not speaking proper English. That is funny. I am living in London and I don't feel offended that Britts don't speak any Polish. :-)

Well... Thats what I meant. You just can't expect that UK laws would be respected in Poland. Or Polish laws in the UK. I understand, why you are upset. Try to understand - you can't blame foreign country for having it's own law.

More-or-less the answer is: Poland is not UK and UK is not Poland. I don't really see any point in accusing one country of not being the other. Customs are differ. That is why we call it "abroad" isn't it? :-)

History / What British unit liberated Poland in 1945?? [445]

A grand total of 89 Polish pilots flew in the Polish RAF squadrons (300 and 301 Bomber Squadrons; 302 and 303 Fighter Squadrons) during the Battle of Britain

Thats interesting if you take under consideration that total number of casualties in Polish Air forces in the UK (of course not all were the pilots) is around 4000.

For me it seems that some of these 89 pilots were forced to die many, many times. (lol)

Read, learn - then talk about history.

"Later there were two rival 'presidents'. There may even have been more, not that anyone would have cared."

So I will tell you for the third time (maybe this time with better effect) - the only President of Poland in 1947 was president in exile. This state of matter remain unchanged until 1989.

Go back to basics, boy.

History / What British unit liberated Poland in 1945?? [445]

If you taking money from somebody - would you return it to the same person or maybe to same one else?

The only Polish President from 1939 until 1989 was a president in exile. This so-called communists government wasn't legal in 1947 according to Polish laws. Just a bunch of traitors, who would sign everything that Stalin requested.

This case is simple - tons of Polish gold were evacuated to the UK. This is historic fact. Polish govt trusted Churchill. It was never returned to the rightful owner.

Maybe I am wrong. Maybe you can provide me with documents that state otherwise?

This is a document that legalize this theft. It was signed between UK and Polish communists over the head of rightful owners (namely Polish Government and President). Maybe you should read it once more. This time even more carefully.

How nice of you to continue to spit on the nation which has sheltered you since you decided to abandon Poland.

How nice of you to continue to spit on the nation which has sheltered your people since the dark ages. :-)

BTW - I understand that if you trust somebody with you money and later this man refuse to return it - you don't call it theft? Is there another word for it in your native language? Gecheft maybe?
