News / €11,700 to every migrant returning to the Polish capital and starting a business there. [110]

That's interesting, in my opinion stupid but interesting.

Actually Spain ain't alone with this idea.

Spain.
In a bid to get around 100,000 immigrants to leave, its government has offered six months of unemployment benefits, around $18500, to foreign nationals who in return promise not to come back to Spain for three years. Some 4,000 people have taken the cash so far.

The Czech Republic is offering just under $1000 per migrant to leave.

Northern Ireland this week the government there is paying for the airfares home of around 100 Romanian Gypsies who’ve been the victim of racist violence.

And in the UK a one million pound government scheme to help rejected asylum seekers to return home has resulted in just one family leaving Britain. Critics have called the project a scandal.

Japan is offering around US$3000 to each Latin American national living there, plus the cost of the airfare to go home.

Refugees and those who come to Denmark under family reunification schemes currently get 28,256 in repatriation support if they leave, of which 11,000 is a bonus. The bonus is usually paid out a year after the recipient returns home and their right to Danish residency expires.

The new deal would see 100,000 kroner given as a bonus if a foreigner returns home and gives up their residency rights in Denmark.

I think this is something that we will see more and more in Europe. The nationalistic era seems to make a comeback in the European political arena!!!

Would smart arses not come back claim the money and head off again after it "didn't work out"? ;)

I think they will have some contracts/rules that will make sure that the money will come into right use. But yes i guess some people will take advantage of it in a "wrong" way. But hey!! Rules Are Meant To Be Broken right!!!??? ;)

Travel / From Poland With Love [20]

"From Poland With Love" follows two characters, Ivar and Julita as they search Poland to find the most fascinating, exciting and underexposed aspects of the country. Over seven episodes, our protagonists travel the country on a mission to track down the best bands, artists, directors, places, people, parties and of course the best bars Poland has to offer. Along the way, they learn about everything from the Polish solidarity movement that hastened the fall of the USSR to goth raves, Polish punk, real wodka and Julita's gran's secret recipe for pickled herring.

Watch the series when it premieres on Monday, September 27th.

Then they head across town to meet Mitch&Mitch, one of Poland's greatest bands, who claim to be "from nowhere." Finally, they hang out with Pawel Althamer, a contemporary Polish sculptor, performance artist, action artist with strong feelings about his working class neighbourhood.

News / €11,700 to every migrant returning to the Polish capital and starting a business there. [110]

why reward people for jumping ship ?

I think it's more about to get back their "invested money"

Poland invested heavily in those 1.4 milj ppl who choose not to return to Poland, so a 11k bribe is a very small fee they pay to "maybe" get some ppl back.

Try to calculate how much the state spends on healtcare/School/public sector for each person from 0-18 year old and multiplie that with 1.4milj!!!!!

I know some people might say "well we paid our taxes so we can do whatever we want" That is true but still those "tax money" will now be in some other country and work their ass off as cheap labour. So that country wins since they didn't have to provide anything for you in those 18 years and still they get the same labour for an even cheaper price!!!! So Poland looses BIG TIME.

lol... of course not..

I hope some ppl will go for it and start some lucrative businesses :)

the Polish goverment should better take care of an affordable housing for your people, lower unemployment and better paid jobs... that's some start...

Yea the salaries are a joke in the public sector. I heard the goverment wanted to freeze the salarie growth next year to save some cash in the public sector.

ow even found the article here

News / €11,700 to every migrant returning to the Polish capital and starting a business there. [110]

The Polish authorities have tried to encourage migrants to return to the country. The city of Warsaw said Friday it will give €11,700 to every migrant returning to the Polish capital and starting a business there. Part of the cash incentive is financed with EU funds.

Will this work? Not a bad deal in my opinion...

Food / Longest pizza record attempt in Poland [21]

Residents of the Polish city of Krakow have attempted to break the world record for the longest pizza in the world.

The current record for the largest pizza is 407m (445 yds), but the Poles are trying to break it with one reaching more than 1,000m (1093 yds).

It has not yet been officially announced whether the record has been broken.

They even got a naked news anchor to tell you the story!!!

News / Polish leader urges EU to keep generous aid funds [32]

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski urged European Union governments Wednesday to preserve large EU funds for poor regions when the bloc overhauls its 130 billion euros ($164.3 billion) annual budget.

The EU's 27 countries will launch negotiations next year on the shape of the 2014-2021 budget. Many politicians are calling for austerity following the global economic crisis, which has emptied government coffers and increased national debts.

reuters.com/article/idUSTRE68042A20100901

Should EU continue to keep generous aid funds to Poland?

Or should Poland take some responsibility and pay and receive like everyone else?

I do understand Polands situation and that the region needs those funds to develop so it can reach an "EU" standard. But maybe it's time for Poland to stand on its own feet?

History / Polish aristocrats - would be better off if we had Polish magnate families? [69]

Magnates implies corrupt landlord class, who work against interest of Polish people of lesser means.

Not really.

The Magnates is a polish legacy, something that we should be proud of. But i guess people believe in the communist propaganda about the evul polish landlords and don't understand the importance of sucha families that could keep Polands prestige in the higher league.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

the difference between the poles and the French is that poles knows how to make use of their weapons ;)

Just look at the French, they build maginot line and spent over half their budget on it... Must have been really hard for the Germans to just walk around through Belgium.

Looks like the Polish cavalry is once again waiting to attack German tanks. ;)

You mean tanks like this?

1929

German soldiers practice with paper tank props. Heavy weapons were banned under the Treaty of Versailles, so the army had to make do with substitutes.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

Flags mean alot...insignias are history pure and tell their own stories. Poles take their flags and insignia very seriously...as every other people does too.

Word!!!

Any link for that?

Why? You wanna hang a print on the wall? xD

And you can cut out the hyphens from germanic tribes...because that's what they were. ;)

Indeed they were germanic. But don't try to use some kinda nationalistic german solidarity thingy that germanic people had some special connection to each other. They were tribes fighting against each other and did so untill the early 1900's.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

Charlemagne was not a German king.. He was king of the germans ;)

He was a frankish king exploiting the Germanic lands...

BB if you got time you should read some about the Ostoja clan. Really impressive history they have. Actually never heard of them before, i randomly came across it some month ago. they are a hidden diamond in the polish mud.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

There might lay the misunderstanding...

Well the coat of arm changed dramatically from double-edged to single-edged and i wouldn't call the one germany got today "Original". So no it's not so old since the shape changed to much.

The polish white eagle was allways single-edged and never mutated from having one head to have 2 heads and then mutate back to one head...

And the polish piast white eagle appeared before the german one.

News / Poland's budget problems = Polish funerals [27]

Its not easy being a single parent anywhere in the world, but why do you think other people should pay?

Yes but by not providing the single parents with some wellfare beneifts you also make the childs situation way worse.

News / Poland's budget problems = Polish funerals [27]

Why should single parents receive anything extra?

Not always so easy for a single parent? especially in Poland...

Additionally, if you can't raise a child without help - why have one?

Abortion is a tabu in Poland you know ;)

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

And the same is for many other now polish towns...a visitor can see it with their own eyes...the whole architecture is germanic.

Yes indeed they can, but "germanic" is a kinda big word you know. We had plenty of Dutch people scottish people etc etc building up gdansk you know...

But then...your denial is getting ridiculous as even polish travel agencies advertise with the german heritage of polish towns, offering guided tours... ;)

Ofc they do, good for business ;) more germans comming with big wallets!!!

But then...if 600 years of german history isn't enough for a town to become fully german in your eyes, then 60 years of being polish is nothing...easily reversable...isn't it?

Seriously when will you understand that the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth were a Multi Culti state with many different aspects. Poland don't really has its own "architecture". Polish cities and towns reflect the whole spectrum of European styles. Poland's Eastern frontiers used to mark the outermost boundary of the influences of Western architecture on the continent. . It was influenced with architecture from all over the world. Italian/German/Dutch/French/Armenian/Scottish/English Even Turkish and Chinese etc etc etc

And the "Germanic" people didn't complain under Polish rule, they loved it and helped to build the polish towns.

No it isn't!
It definitely has to be Mercs or Beamers...everything "Made in Germany" actually;)
"Made in France" has not the same ring to it for Poles it seems (besides stockings and parfums that is).

Sorry but i rather go for french stuff!!!
